A. Performance On the Morning of Friday November 11th 2016 I attended a solo jazz performer known by the name of Randy Freeman. The performance was held at the Patio Cafe in the Fig Garden Shopping center at about 11:15am. Randy Freeman was playing an acoustic electric guitar alone to a patio of peoples enjoying their brunch and individuals inside the restaurant. I then later that weekend on the date of November 12th 2016 witnessed “Real Jazz” This performance began at 6:00pm and the entire band and instruments were packed into a small parking spot below the patio. B.Instrumentation Randy Freeman was a solo guitarist who show up to the performance well equipped. Throughout the performance I notice under the table of his things on the …show more content…
The soft strokes of the guitar set a mood off sheer relaxation and euphoria. The songs slow flowing sound and constant low and slow tempo lets the beat almost sedate the ears of the listener. Throughout the entire song the intensity of the music never became loud or bold enough to wake a baby that was sleeping in the arms of her father just inches away from an amplifier. This song was similar to the first performed by Real Jazz. The slow soft beat introduced all instruments calmly set a mood romantic mood that was enhanced by the lighting above the patio along with the moonlight shining down on to the guests and the band. However unlike Dindi, Song1 developed into a progressively faster song. This was done by the drummer speeding up the beats and the intensity of the performers increasing, thus making the music louder. Randy Freeman did however speed up the tempo with his last song Sunny by Bobby Hebb. Throughout the song i was able to sense some extra improvisation put into the music, this for me increased the intensity partially because i was sitting so close to Randy and i was able to see how rapidly his fingers were moving throughout calm parts of the song. The mood changed at that moment and the focus of the individuals in the patio shifted to the area where Randy was sitting. A similar instance of the shift in focus occurred when the song “Make you another” was performed by Real Jazz. The previous song had ended on a somber slow note. Thus the band picked up a slow piano tune that introduced the drums by means of slowly intensifying the symbols. The predominant piano kept a somber sad but romantic mood in the air. However when the saxophone solo came in discretely and softly along with the subtle high strings of the guitar. The saxophone overpowered all when it came in with is sweeping tune. People in the audience began to whistle and clap while
... began the piece, and the beat of the drum was frequent. After the introduction, the rest of the musicians joined. The pianist also had a solo part with the companion of the drum. The pace of the song was moderately fast, and the song ended with a climax.
Music is magical: it soothes you when you are upset and cheers you up when you are down. To me, it is a communication with souls. I listen to different genres of music. When appreciating each form of music, with its unique rhythm and melody, I expect to differentiate each other by the feelings and emotions that it brings to me. However, I would definitely never call myself “a fan of jazz” until I witnessed Cécile McLorin Salvant’s performance last Friday at Mondavi Center. Through the interpretations and illustrations from Cécile’s performance, I realized that the cultural significance and individual identity are the building blocks of jazz music that create its unique musical features and support its development.
The jazz band I observed played a series of six different songs. Although all the songs were categorized as jazz, each song had its own special style and sound to it. The band consisted of three different players. Paul Meyers, the guitarist and composer, Andy Eulau, the bassist, and Dave Rataczak, on drums. The songs performed were entitled “Love for Sale” by Cole Porter, “Once I Loved” by Antonio Carlos Jobim, “Stars” by Paul Meyers, “Blues for Mel” also by Paul Meyers, “Last Night When We Were Young” by Harold Arlen, and “Samba Novo” by Luis Eca.
Cajun music has a folk-like beat that places the accordion at the center of the rhythm. Cajun music originated from the United States of America but more specifically, the state of Louisiana. This music came to Louisiana through the French-speaking immigrants that settled there. These immigrants once called the Acadians, or Cajuns, found a new home in Louisiana after being expelled from Nova Scotia (Ancelet). Due to their harsh exile from Nova Scotia, much of Cajun music describes death and desperation. Soon after arriving in Louisiana, the Cajuns began incorporating the sounds of the surrounding cultures into their music (Edmondson, 173). Acculturation contributed greatly to the origin and development of Cajun music due to its borrowing of sounds and instruments from a variety of different cultures. They started incorporating the Native American’s singing style as well as the Spanish guitar into their own original music (Ancelet). This created the unique sounds of Cajun music that we know and listen to today. Paired with their music, the Cajun culture also created their own unique Cajun dance style. Their dances incorporated waltzes, and
...ked throughout the concert. The pacing of the selections seemed appropriate. No piece sounded like the one before it. There was a great variety of songs played. There were songs played that were written by famous jazz composers and songs played that were written by some of the performers themselves. This added to the excitement of the show.

While the musician?s were playing, I was surprised how the audience was. Most of the audience was talking loud, drinking alcohol and eating snacks. Some audience was even clapping hands and humming along with the song. This was quite an opposite environment compared to the concerts I went to. Sometimes the audience was so loud that I could barely hear the songs. It was interesting that even though the crowd was so loud, the musicians seemed very comfortable with it. They played the song as if the audience?s voice was also part of their song. When audience was loud, they would play loud and when audience became quite, they played very soft and tender. It might be to get audience?s attention. But, it seemed the m...

Not only is it nearly impossible to pinpoint jazz’s conception in time, many locations are accredited with its origin, the United States allowed for jazz to start gaining popularity and leading into the change it had to the music scene. When jazz is brought up, many first think of its birth place being New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans has always been a big musi...
Jazz is a music genre that is very rich in culture which is why I decided to attend a Jazz concert. This was my first Jazz event I had ever been to. I went to see the band The Chairman and the Board. This was a blues swing band. Having been to other concerts, I was expecting something similar as far as atmosphere and crowd. I was proved very wrong as this concert defied all my expectations and was in a whole different field as far as life entertainment goes. The first thing I noticed right off the bat was the audience. The age range of this audience was mainly 40-70. I definitely felt like the odd man out when I was there. It did get me thinking though, why was this audience so much older? I looked into the era of when most of those people
Theatre has heavily evolved over the past 100 years, particularly Musical Theatre- a subgenre of theatre in which the storyline is conveyed relying on songs and lyrics rather than dialogue. From its origination in Athens, musical theatre has spread across the world and is a popular form of entertainment today. This essay will discuss the evolution and change of musical theatre from 1980-2016, primarily focusing on Broadway (New York) and the West End (London). It will consider in depth, the time periods of: The 1980s: “Brit Hits”- the influence of European mega musicals, the 1990s: “The downfall of musicals”- what failed and what redeemed, and the 2000s/2010s: “The Resurgence of musicals”- including the rise of pop and movie musicals. Throughout the history of popular music, jazz and classical are some of the most influential styles of music. Many people, however, cannot distinguish the differences between the two styles and they are often carelessly lumped together during musical discussion. Jazz and Classical have very little in common and they both come from completely different backgrounds. The two genres utilize completely different ensembles of instruments to create a unique and distinct sound in their own right. They also have notably different methods of composition. Jazz and classical music are two different genres of music that are often overlooked and lumped into the same category, but both genres have distinct characteristics that set them apart from one another
Specific performance generally is an equitable remedy granted by the court imposing an obligation on the party who is intended or have committed a breach of contract to perform his duty. It is a proper method of compelling the defendant to perform a positive obligation of his own under the contract entered into between him and the plaintiff.[ Halsbury Law of Schools] With the order for specific performance, the party in breach must perform his obligation.
During the performances, I was able to identify when the performers intensified their expression of the music by using rubato since the speedDuring my spring break I took the opportunity to attend USC Thornton Jazz night concert at the University of Southern California campus. This event took place on March 28, 2014 at 8p.m. This concert was specifically located at the Ground Zero performance café inside the campus. The group that performed that night was called the Jason Goldman Combo who indeed performed classical jazz. As I entered the venue, I observed the performers as they began to rehearse before their actual performances. It gave me preview of what the performances were going to be all about. Inside the venue, there were colorful dim lights; the performers began with their performances. The sound of the live classical jazz playing in the background gave the environment a relatively calm and relaxing vibe which I personally enjoyed. I had a positive reaction towards the performances because I really enjoyed the performances overall. I enjoyed these performances not only because I thought the performances were enjoyable but it was also my first time attending a jazz concert. Since I had positive reactions throughout the performances it gave me a great impression towards jazz music in general. It amazed me the how these individuals were teenagers who were about my age and were extremely talented. .
