Patrick Henry’s speech to the Virginia Convention was very compelling. He stood up in front of the president and demanded that we do something about the British. He urged the convention that they should take action instead of sitting around waiting for something bad to happen when it would be too late to fight back. He addressed the president many times during his speech which took a lot courage. Patrick Henry’s speech was a turning point for the convention. Patrick Henry states that he rather have freedom than be a slave to the British. “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!” Henry is convincing them that having liberty is better than living as the British way. Patrick Henry’s speech was inspirational for people because he talks about all the things that could have happened if they waited to fight back. He also talks about how he rather be dead than be part of the British. He talk about having peace, freedom and how they shouldn’t be slaves to the British. His speech was the push that the Virginia Convention needed to start fighting back and stop letting the British win.
Patrick Henry’s effective diction emphasizes how much the British had suppressed the colonists and that it was time to fight for their freedom. Henry displays this through his strong use of pathos, logos, and ethos. His rhetorical questions really appeal to the logic and ethics of the colonists and leaves the no choice but to join him and rebel.

“Join, or Die.” “Don’t Tread on Me.” These are two mottos often used by Revolutionary supporters and fighters from about 1754 to 1783, and even sometimes today it is still used. These were battle cries that patriotic men would scream with all their might before charging onto the battlefield, where they might take their last breath. Nearly five thousand men gave their lives, for freedom’s sake. Their sacrifices were not done in vain, as the war was ended on September 3rd, 1783. This sense of victory and accomplishment is what lead these new Americans to further establishing their country, making their mark on history, and creating a new identity for themselves, as free men and woman.

There were a plethora of decisions during the Continental Convention of 1787 which helped construct the United States of America that we have today. The participant who had the greatest impact on the convention other than James Madison, is a delegate called Roger Sherman. He was a very influential person who had many accomplishments, among these were: being a well-respected politician, a lawyer who earned his degree from Yale University, a Connecticut senator, a Newton County surveyor, an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court, and a member of the Continental Congress. All of these things, would help shape the man who would forever change the United States of America.
In “From Notes on the State of Virginia,” Thomas Jefferson includes some proposed alterations to the Virginia Laws and discusses some differences between blacks and whites. First, he describes one of the proposed revisions regarding slavery: All slaves born after the enactment of the alteration will be freed; they will live with their parents till a certain age, then be nurtured at public disbursement and sent out of state to form their own colonies such that intermarrying and conflicts can be avoided between blacks and whites. Next, Jefferson indicates some physical differences between blacks and whites, including skin color, hair, amount of exudates secreted by kidneys and glands, level of transpiration, structure in the pulmonary organ, amount of sleep, and calmness when facing dangers. As he notes, these differences point out that blacks are inferior to whites in terms of their bodies. In addition, Jefferson also asserts that the blacks’ reasoning and imagination are much inferior to the whites’ after he observes some of the art work and writings from the blacks. As a result, based on his observation, he draws a conclusion that whites are superior to blacks in terms of both body and mind. However, Jefferson’s use of hasty generalization, begging the question, and insulting language in his analysis is a huge flaw which ruins the credibility of his argument and offenses his readers.

With all of my respect mister Patrick Henry I disagree with you, how could we know that they are willing to attack only because they settle on the shore? Maybe they have a problem so they need to stop nearby. However, you should not be sure that everyone will support you, everyone has his own point of view. In such a situation, there are a lot of people who are against the idea of "give me liberty or give me death". For me I think that no one in the world would ask for war, everyone wants to live in peace without being oppressed or enslaved. Moreover, you should send someone to investigate what they are planning to, instead of asking to send everyone to war. Moreover, you should know that there will be a lot of consequence of war, you will be responsible for thousands of people who will die in such a big war against a great navy that the British have.
