Post Lab If the number of nails increases to 2, than will the amount of paperclips attracted increase? Five trials were conducted using this variable. The measures of central tendency were calculated. The minimum amount of paperclips attracted to the electromagnet was 2. The maximum amount attracted to the electromagnet was 20 paperclips. The mean was 10 paperclips. A range of 18 was noted with the lowest number being 2 and the highest being 20. No mode was observed while the tests were conducted. The median number of paperclips was 8.5. The data was compared to the control group and patterns were noticed. Three trials were conducted using the control group. The control group tested an electromagnet with 20 coils. The minimum
Going into details of the article, I realized that the necessary information needed to evaluate the experimental procedures were not included. However, when conducting an experiment, the independent and dependent variable are to be studied before giving a final conclusion.
This course has taught me many things. I was not aware that there was so much information to learn about communication, but I have been pleasantly surprised. This course has taught me better ways to communicate with my significant other, my family, my friends, my co-workers, as well as with strangers. I have greatly enjoyed each assignment because they challenged me to examine the flaws within my own communication style. I hope to employ the skills and tools I have learned in this course and apply them to all my future communications.
Paperclip Investigation Plan = == = I want to find out how affecting the amount of paper clips (weight) will affect how fast it takes a spinner to fall to the ground. To make the investigation a fair test I am keeping these things the same: · The spinner size · The height at which it is dropped from · The size of the paperclips The only thing I will change is the amount of paperclips added each time. I did my primary source analysis assignment on the song “Born in the U.S.A” by singer and songwriter Bruce Springsteen. After listening to this song I analyzed what I thought that it meant. This song has a very clear meaning. It is an anti-War song, speaking of the memories and heavy heartache of a man returning from War after experiencing a personal loss not just as a citizen but also as a recruit. This song describes how he was unemployable for "doing the right thing". Springsteen basically wrote this song about the problems Vietnam veterans tend to encounter when they returned to America after serving their time. Vietnam was the first war the United States did not win. While veterans of other wars received a hero's welcome and a nice pat on the back, those who fought in Vietnam were very much ignored when they returned to back to the United States.
Paperclips are an everyday use in today's world. They hold our papers together, when we don’t want to use a stapler that will poke the unwanted holes into our paper. They also keep our papers organized and neat. There are many types of paper clips that were created, but only a few really were the ones. Over the many years, since ancient Eurasia, the clip has made its way through many patents, inventors, machines, and much more. There are many different colors, sizes, forms of paper clips.
Whitwell Middle School, in 2001 started a project called the paperclip project. It was put into motion when the teachers decided that they wanted to learn about the Jews and what happened to them during the holocaust. They wanted to learn about a new culture, teach about the tolerance that happened in the holocaust. They decided they would collect paper clips because it was a symbol during the holocaust.
There are many times when feminism is incorporated into song lyrics to give a sense of women’s empowerment in an audience. Alicia Keys is an American Hip hop and R&B songwriter and singer who wrote the song “Girl on Fire” that was released in her fifth studio album in 2012 (Girl on Fire (song), 2014), and was inspired by her son, Egypt. This song is about a lonely girl who is starting to be comfortable in her own skin. It says how everyone is staring at her as she goes by because everyone can see the flame burning and glistening in her eyes. In my paper, I will talk about how the lyrics in this song are very bold that can be applicable to all girls. I will analyze “Girl on Fire” using a method that was developed by Kenneth Burke called cluster analysis (Foss, 2009). Through this method, I can identify key terms in this song and put them into clusters to discover the meaning behind the key words explained: girl, hottest, and on fire.
A common trait found throughout mankind’s existence is its anthropological dispersion of human culture. But when looking to the past many questions frequently arise. Michael Cook, the author of A Brief History of the Human Race, structures his study of the development of societies and civilizations with one predominant question. “Why did human history happen the way it did?” Well aware that society and civilization are ancient arts, Cook sketches an overview from man’s prehistoric origins to industrialization of the contemporary world. Furthermore, he brilliantly explores why human history did not begin until the fairly recent past. Modern humanoids have been in existence for thousands of years, but it was not until roughly the ninth millennium B.C. that history began to make an appearance. Cook gives a compelling explanation for why this is so. He also explains that by looking into our past many answers to man’s questions can be revealed and lead humans to a primordial enlightenment. From writing and the calendars of Mesoamerica, to the progression of scientific innovation, Cook shows the reader the lush diversity within the human experience.
In Percy Shelley’s poem “Ozymandias” the story begins with the narrator explaining how he met a traveler from an “antique” land. This traveler explains how in the dessert he saw two legs of stone, and the face of a statue laying on the sand. The traveler describes how on the pedestal there were words left behind by the king boasting to anybody who sees his statue to take a good look at his kingdom, and fear how powerful he is. However around the broken statue there was nothing but the loneliness of the barren dessert. The overall theme portrayed in this poem is that no matter how great or long lasting something is built to last, eventually it will be destroyed with time. The author shows this through the poem by carefully using imagery, and diction to illustrate that of this kingdom all that is left behind is this statue; that one day will also disappear into the dessert. I will be going through this poem line by line in order to explain what I believe this poem to mean, and how each line contributes to the overall message of the poem.
The discharge current flows through the stimulating coil to generate the necessary magnetic pulse. This pulse induces current in electrically conductive regions of the human body. If the induced current is of high amplitude and duration it will stimulate neuromuscular tissue in the same way as with conventional electrical stimulation. The first commercial magnetic stimulators originated from Sheffield in 1985 [16-21]. A typical magnetic stimulator consists of a capacitor charging or discharging alternatively with the appropriate control and safety electronics. Using the charging circuitry the energy storage system (capacitor) is charged to a level which can be up to a maximum of 3000 volts (kV) depending on the device. When the device receives an input signal as a trigger, the energy stored in the capacitor is discharged into the stimulating coil. The stored energy, with the exception of the energy lost in the wiring and capacitor, is transferred to the coil and then returned to the instrument to reduce coil heating. The discharge system consists of a switch and an electronic device, either a power metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) or insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) or silicon controlled rectifier (Thyristor), and is capable of switching large currents in a few microseconds. Power MOSFETs, IGBTs and Thyristor conduct current only in one direction. As indicated in Figure 1 there are two types of waveforms: monophasic or biphasic which is commonly found in magnetic stimulation
At V.V.C. the teachers and student teachers were culturally responsive. The teachers develop positive relationships with the children and their families. I observed that when the children come in the teacher greats and acknowledge the child and teacher. I hand the opportunity to complete my student teaching in this environment. I clearly remember that the teachers acknowledged parents’ concerns. They respectfully listened to parents views. The parents felt comfortable and validated. If problems arose the parents discussed them with the teachers. The teachers listened and respectfully worked out a solution. York (2003) stated, “Teachers can help children feel at home by demonstrating the ability to take another perspective” (p.73).
Many professors are teaching students the basics of academics. Many students do not speak and write like professors. Students have their own primary discourse. Students primary or native discourse is the first discourse students learn. Students are usually advanced in their native discourse, but they struggle when they have to learn the dominant discourse. Students struggle learning the dominant language, because they have to learn all the rules that come along with the discourse. In addition, some students believe learning the dominant discourse mean they are giving up or neglecting their native discourse. However, learning more than one discourse does not mean students have to leave one behind. Therefore, professors should teach college students multiple discourses, so they can evolve as writers.
The apparatus used in this experiment was a meter stick. I collected data for this experiment by clicking on one end of the meter stick then clicking on the other end. I did this over and over again until I had done this 20 times. The independent variable for this experiment was the number of the measurement. The dependent variable depends on where I clicked on the measuring stick.
The third, thereby the last pun “A KISS IN CENTRAL PARK - ’Fall’ in love with NYC” (Picture 5.) works on the associative ground. An image of the Central Park covered with colourful leaves during the autumn (another persuasive technique which is a good timing, as all the mentioned in this section advertisements were released that particular season), and a huge caption “A KISS IN CENTRAL PARK” with a lip print. Looking into this image an audience may have an impression that this post bears no persuasion at all, and there is even no advertised product. However, since Maybelline New York is known for selling and producing cosmetics, the lip print may indicate the promotion of a new lipstick, or a lip gloss. Regarding the line “’Fall’ in love with NYC” the pun has been presented in quotation marks to make it more visible for the audience. The word “fall” relates either to the state of “experiencing feelings of love towards somebody” being the verb phrase “to fall in love with somebody”, or to the noun representing the season illustrated on the described picture (Dictionary.com, 2014). In addition, “NYC” may be an allusion to “New York City” pertaining to “Central Park”, and Maybelline headquarter, as well as “New York Colors” being the slogan included in advertising campaigns.
