The individuals that make decisions without difficulty have the ability to influence those that have a hard time deciding. By changing how other people act, individuals establish themselves as leaders. Leadership refers to the power that certain individuals have over others. This influence helps in guiding the behavior of the other people who are considered followers. While the power comes from the leaders, people choose to act willingly and without any form of coercion. Communication is important in leadership because followers depend on the decisions made by the leaders before taking any action. Therefore, there is a need for excellent communication skills when it comes to leadership. The type of leadership usually depends on the personality of an individual. Some individuals believe in making all the decisions without having to consult anyone. The style, in this case, becomes dictatorial since the decisions made have to be accepted without being challenged. There are those who value the opinions of others and believe that everyone can contribute something when it comes to making decisions. This form of leadership boosts creativity and innovation, as individuals feel more appreciated. Leadership involves influencing others to undertake some action without having to coerce them. Decisions made based on logic are more analytical because they look at the facts while those made out of judgment are usually rapid and are determined by the situation that one encounters. Judgment decisions do not require careful analysis. Instead, they need one to use intuition to determine the right thing that needs to be done. Some managers and individuals postpone making decisions when they are not sure what the outcomes of these decisions might be. These individuals spend more time trying to gather information that will help them make better decisions instead of using the knowledge they already have. However, decisions have to be made in the end even if these people do not like it. Since making decisions is not easy, some issues may hinder effective decision-making. For instance, having little information or too much information can make one have difficulty in deciding what course of action to take. When there are too many people involved in the making of a decision, it becomes difficult because of the different views put across. It is important to address these issues for the decisions to be more efficient. Making decisions is not easy and can be done from a logical or intuitive point of view depending on the timeline that one has. However, factors such information and the number of people involved in the decision process significantly affect the effectiveness of a decision.
John Maxwell once said, “People buy into the leader before they buy into the vision.” A leader must have a solid foundation as a human being before he can try to pursue the public with his vision. He will be examined from every angle about his leadership traits, style, characteristics, and so forth. All of these areas of leadership come together in what we know as integrity. Integrity is doing what is right morally; it requires honesty, making the “right” decisions for the community, taking the blame, and being selfless.
Each decision-making strategy has advantages and disadvantages and none are always better than the others. An effective team leader will consider the options and determine which strategy is the most appropriate one for the issues to be decided and the circumstances in which the decision is to be made and implemented. Outcome-oriented businesses need leaders skilled at decision-making. Decision-making styles are neither good nor bad. The effectiveness of any decision-making style depends on the situation in which it is used. Performance is enhanced by integrating all styles, by finding the style that works best in particular project, or by being able to move intentionally from one decision-making style to another.

Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
A leader needs to “believe” in oneself and have the confidence that whatever you say will excite and what you do can motivate others. You must be optimistic about what you do, do have some relevance for being in existence. Believe it or not, “leadership begins with you”.
A decision is a solution chosen from among alternatives. Decisions must be made when a person is faced with a problem or an issue that needs resolution. Decision-making is the process of selecting a course of action (ideas or alternatives) that will solve a problem and resolve any issues. Decision-making models provide people with a method for making decisions. There are numerous decision-making methods people utilize today. Some are meant to be all encompassing, meaning they can be utilized in many different environments. Others are specific to issues or industries, such as technology, psychology, and mathematics. Regardless of the problem, there is usually a decision-making process that is best suited for any situation, and it is up to us to find it.
“Decision making is a process of first diverging to explore the possibilities and then converging on a solution(s). The Latin root of the word decision means "to cut off from all alternatives". This is what you should do when you decide.” (Kotelnikov, 2008). In fact, the decision making process helps reduce doubt and uncertainty about alternative choices to allow individual to choose the best reasonable choice. In addition, the decision making process can make the difference between a successful and an unsuccessful organization. Consequently, management tries to use the best techniques and tools possible to make the best decision. Nowadays, most organizations seem to think that they have the most effective and efficient decision making process. So what are the different styles of decision making processes have organizations implemented? In order to answer this question, the team members will investigate and observe the decision-making processes most prevalent in their organization. As a result, these papers will first compare and contrast the problem identification and formulation styles in the team members’ organizations. Then the most favorable aspects of each style will be discussed to describe a process by which a problem can be identified and described to stakeholders in a manner that is sensitive to their perspective.
The following is a decision-making model that I have used to arrive at a decision.
