Paolo Veronese's Painting "Mars and Venus United by Love" “Mars and Venus United by Love” by Paolo Veronese is done in the Renaissance style of painting. This is done in this style, because Poalo Veroneses was a Renaissance painter as well as his teacher Titan. The painting takes place in Rome in the Mythological Era. It is not known who commissioned this work. Emperor Rudolf II in Prague owned this piece of artwork as well as four others of Veronese’s paintings. Mars is the God of war; and Venus is the Goddess of love.(These are the Roman names for the Greek Gods; which in Greek Venus was called Aphrodite and Mars was actually called Aries.) The theme of this painting has to do with Roman mythology. Cupid is tying Mars and Venus together. There are many different explanations that people have came up with to explain this painting. There is always that tie between love and war, even the saying “make love not war”. The most common translation would be [Venus, the woman symbolizes chastity transformed by love into charity and that the horse held back by an armed cupid is an emblem of passion restrained](Metropolitan Museum of Art, pg.185) The painting clearly shows Mars and Venus being tied together by a cupid. So I can see why this is the most popular translation of this painting. My personal response was really strong after seeing the painting for the first time. As soon as I saw this painting I knew that it had a deeper meaning to it; and not just some people being tied together by a cupid. I knew right away that it had to do with Roman mythology just from the names. After looking at this painting for a while there is still something that the artist is trying to portray, that is really tough. It feels like there is more going on than what seems. The painting has such a calm tone to it but it gives a little hint of roughness with the sword and the horse, which I think, helps to balance this painting.
Andrea Schiavone devised a strategy to distinguish himself from the master painters before him. This style is marked by a sense on incompleteness and feathery brushwork. The painting The Marriage of Cupid and Psyche shows Schiavone at his best because it is the perfect example of the harmony between Titian and Parmigianino. The sinuous lines depicted in the painting give it a lot of sex appeal, while his heavy-duty paint handling keeps it from cloying. In this work Schiavone forces you think past the accepted notions of what is right, and instead focus on the beauty that lies past right and wrong. The painting itself is of Venetian origins, dating back to 1550. It is composed of oil on wood and it was originally octagonal in shape. The corners were add...
The image of the chief is the initial focal point in the painting,Adoption of the Human Race. The chief's image evokes a great sense of sadness for the mass of people. You get a sense of concern regarding the future of the people. The image of the lightning bolt, eclipse of the moon ,the explosion and rainbow behind the foreboding image of the chief solidifies his role as a protector . The two images combined defines the complete role of the chief ,an unknown ,ethereal source watching over the human race.
The composition of this painting forces the eye to the woman, and specifically to her face. Although the white wedding dress is large and takes up most of the woman’s figure, the white contrasts with her face and dark hair, forcing the viewer to look more closely into the woman’s face. She smokes a cigarette and rests her chin on her hands. She does not appear to be a very young woman and her eyes are cast down and seem sad. In general, her face appears to show a sense of disillusionment with life and specifically with her own life. Although this is apparently her wedding day, she does not seem to be happy.
The Interpretation/Meaning (III) will be written without any guideline points, the aim of this part will be to determine what the painter wanted to express with his piece of work and what it tells us in a symbolic or not instantly clear way. This part will also handle why the artist drew the painting the way he did it and why he chose various techniques or tools.
Because this painting was completed during the Neoclassicism art movement, Lagreneé does an excellent job of giving attention to detail in the room of Cupid and Psyche to portray the expressions of the sleeping Cupid while Psyche is about to realize who the man she has been sleeping with truly is. The bright hues utilized in this painting seem to draw the attention of the viewer to Cupid before Psyche to help portray the importance of Cupid being asleep while Psyche seeks to discover who he is. Lagreneé does an excellent job of showing the two levels of trust that the two characters have in each other by showing Cupid spread out in the bed, completely at the will of his lover, while she disobeys his one request of

Botticelli uses a vast number of techniques in this painting he uses the contrast of the figures with the dark outline of their bodies to have the pop off of the canvas, he used the robes and flowers to show the force and direction of Zephyors breath, elongated limbs to interest the viewer. Botticelli believed to have used the Golden ratio in this painting .The Golden Ratio or Phi (1.618) is basically creating and appreciating a sense of beauty through harmony and proportion. The Birth of Venus can be broken up into three vertical and horizontal, Zephyors and Chloris would be in the left, Venus in the center, and Horae to the right. The way Botticelli uses contrast to draw the viewer to the newly born deity with a dark outline around the body to show emphasis on her pale skin with soft pink or coral tones for shadow on the skin. The way he painted the hair as it gracefully drapes down to be gathered at her pelvis, by using mixture of a yellow ochre color to bring highlights and depth the goddess golden locks. Zephyors tanned skin glows against the soft blue from his silk like robe, Chloris clinging from him her pale skin emphasize his warmth .The use of drapery, waves, and even hair to show movement and direction, the darkness of the background and the bright
This painting has deviated from the standard Renaissance model in that it goes beyond depicting subjects and scene, and employs exaggerated form, color emphasis, abnormal planar depiction, and visual directionality. The aspects of this painting have become the embodiment of the story told and the characters there held. The artist has used various techniques of color, line, and juxtaposition in order to portray an idea which supersedes the sum of its parts, and thereby leads the viewer through a thought.

Botticelli’s Primavera can be labeled as one the most notable interpretative challenges of art history, due to the plethora of differing interpretations of its meaning. Some interpret the Primavera as a mythological depiction surrounding a wedding in the painting’s patron’s family, others believe it is an allegorical representation of the arrival of spring or a symbolic portrayal of Neoplatonic philosophies concerning the nature of love. Although scholars disagree on what exactly Botticelli trying to express in Primavera, most do agree on the identity of the figures in the painting which include mythological figures based primarily on the works of the Greek poet, Ovid. Although the exact meaning will remain unknown, considering differing interpretations can assist in understanding the notions presented and can aid in analysing the findings accordingly.

The Birth of Venus is a beautiful Renaissance canvas masterpiece created by Sandro Botticello. The picture illustrates the birth of Venus in a very mystical way. Venus has emerged from sea on a shell which is being driven to shore by flying wind-gods. She is surrounded by beautiful roses which are painted in a truly remarkable color. As she is about to step to land, one of the Hours hands her a purple cloak. The back drop includes the sea and a forest. The overall effect of this painting are almost overwhelming, color and beauty meet the eye in every angle.
