Lara doesn’t really put herself out there, and when she does it’s because she’s helping someone, “Lara Jean I can handle my own dating life! I don’t need my daughter managing my dates.”
“But… You never go on any.”
“That’s my concern, not yours. I want you to take down that profile tonight.” (Han 152). Lara took her time to do something she thought would help her father and make him happy, ever since their mother died her father hasn’t went on any dates. She thought she was helping... he took it another way. But there’s always that one person she fears won’t appreciate her. Similarly Remy only fears two things in the book and not being appreciated is one. “Remy?” My mother’s voice drifted from the study. The typewriter noises stopping for a second. “Can you do me a favor?”
“Sure,” I called back to her.
“Bring me some coffee?” The typewriter started up

Lara mainly get’s taken advantage of by her boyfriend Peter, “Part of me wants to just stay next to you forever. I could easily do that. I could love you forever.” He tries to make his voice light “I saw you two. You were holding her, she was in your arms. I saw everything.” (Han 245). Lara doesn’t really know how to trust Peter, especially because when she sees him he’s always with Genevieve. For example on Valentine's day he was with Genevieve before he was with Lara, so it does bring up some suspicions. In comparison, Remy only gets taken advantage of by Dexter (her boyfriend), “It’s just how he is, you know. He hooks up, things end badly, and were out a gig, or a place to live, or a hundred bucks in grocery money. He always does this.” “How’s it going? I asked him. He glared back at the booth. “Fine Dexter will probably be in her pants within the hour, not that it’s gonna help the band any.” (Dessen 216). Dexter does seem like a player, he does want to be with Remy, but when they argue he doesn’t seem to care, he just stays away and gives her space. He takes that time away but sometimes it seems like he’s talking to other people. Lara and Remy both seem to get taken advantage of by their
Julius Caesar is mentioned throughout the book, A Long Way Gone, many times. In A Long Way Gone, Ishmael would be reading Julius Caesar or a soldier would be reciting some of the speeches in the play. In Chapter 12 of A Long Way Gone, Ishmael is called over to talk with Lieutenant Jabati. Then, Lieutenant Jabati showed Ishmael the book he was reading, which was Julius Caesar, and asked Ishmael if he had ever heard of the book. Ishmael had read the book in school, and began to recite a speech from the book. After this happened, Lieutenant Jabati and Corporal Gadafi used emotional arguments to motivate the people in the village to stay there and support the military. Also, Lieutenant showed all the people in the village dead bodies to help
Lieutenant Commander Oram and Captain John Adam are lethal weapons. These characters are leaders, kings of their castles. In the dystopian novel of The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil, the theme is Loss of love. Loss of love is both demonstrated inside the novel and as well it is presented in the real world life where real humans live in. Who knew that in a fiction novel it can seem so real as these situations that are happening in the novel were not made up and were real things happening to the Characters. Just like these situations happening in the novel they are actually happening in the real world today. Loss of love occurs in the novel of The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil through three influential characters; Inner Horinters, Phil, and Carol. The fictional representation of loss is similar to real life situations such as Undocumented Immigrants
Acts of humanitarianism do not confirm others theories of you will be positive. As shown throughout the novel As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, the author presents the struggle between the altruistic and the narcissistic in major and minor techniques. The story consists of a family isolated in the country, who have to journey a harsh experience to bury their mother where she had wished. Using the Bundrens’, the family, as a battle against the opposing views from their surroundings and tells the story of the harsh endeavors faced along their journey. One of the family members, Jewel Bundren, displays how the alienation of him from his own kin exposes the neighboring moral values of his family. Which results in the idea that the premises of selfishness and selflessness can become apparent through one’s actions, not others beliefs
It is expected that within a span of four years drastic changes can occur to any person. An example of such case is our experience throughout four years of high school or college; it is a time in which each obstacle that we surpass will become an experience that builds character. We have all left our childhood behind, but we have yet to taste the full essence of adulthood. Within these years of being cast astray to find our own paths, it is common for us students to experience regular episodes of anxiety, stress, and crippling self-doubt.
In John Steinbeck's short story," The Chrysanthemums," there is a strong underlining of betrayal. We can see betrayal in three forms throughout the story. First we see Elisa being betrayed by the salesman who plays on her emotions by giving her a sales pitch only to get some work out of her. Then, in result to confiding in the salesman Elisa betrays her husband by opening herself up, and confiding to a complete stranger things which she couldn't reveal to her own husband. Finally, we see Elisa betraying herself by not allowing herself to fully express her true emotions, and by being too afraid to step out of societies norms for woman during this time.
In the novel “Things Fall Apart” by Chinua Achebe, Nwoye is Okonkwo’s eldest son who is a feminine in the eyes of his father while being a lackadaisical boy just like Unoka was during his lifetime. As a child, Nwoye was often criticized by his father for not being a manly person. Eventually, Ikemefuna comes to fill the void of a manly person and afterwards, Nwoye decided to emulate Ikemefuna as a way to show to his father that he is not a feminine but instead he is transitioning into a manly person. On the other hand after the murder of Ikemefuna, Nwoye decides to distance himself from his father and seems to lose the respect he once had towards his father. Without Ikemefuna’s influence, Nwoye decides to convert back to his gentle nature which basically leads to Okonkwo to view his son as a disappointment and feminine person. Later on in the novel, Nwoye decides to not forgive his father for his betrayal in killing Ikemefuna which ultimately leads to Nwoye to convert into Christianity as a way to show his father that he did a scandalous thing that would never be forgiven.
...la. These are characters that while overly dramatic at times, are relatable because they are not perfect and they don’t struggle with being the perfect wife or machismo husband. Instead they are in constant struggle with their inner demons and desire just to be loved in a way which they deserve without prescribing to society’s norm.
In the saying of “Character is what you are in the dark” by Dwight Lyman Moody, can meaning many different things. One being, “you are most yourself when no one is watching”, another one also being, “dark and troubled times bring out a person's true nature”, and “your true nature is on the inside”. This quote can or cannot apply to the play of “Romeo and Juliet” by Shakespeare.
As our society has shifted from a preindustrial to postindustrial framework, the systems of both work and domestic/private spheres have been mutually transformed. The labor market has been radically changed as women have entered the workforce in higher numbers and the labor market has seen a rise in service and care segments of the economy. Our understanding of relationships and family structures also continue to evolve as “norms” become harder to identify and the dichotomy of caregiver and breadwinner roles has been blurred. As a result of these changing dynamics, the sociological concept of “care” has attracted more discussion and analysis. While the concept of “care” is not uniformly defined, the balance in care provision among families, states, and markets and the intersections of care and work are of central concern to the field. The arguments presented Andrea Doucet’s Do Men Mother?, Pierette Hondagneu-Sotelo’s Domestica, and other course lectures and resources serve to complicate the concept of care, force us to reexamine our definition of work, and recognize the way in which these responsibilities affect and limit people’s opportunities.
Furthermore, assessment of the caregiver’s perception of the health and functional status of the patient, the preparedness of the caregiver for the job of caregiving is assessed.
To Control or to Not Control: The Government and Birth Control. Health care and what people are legally allowed to do with their bodies have created controversy galore throughout history. A particular point of debate is the topic of birth control and the government. A dangerous couple, it raises the question of who should have control over contraceptive laws and what controls involving them should be put in place. Currently, under the Obama Administration, the Affordable Care Act and “Obamacare” are being created.
Caregiving for an elderly individual, or family member, can often result in stress for a caregiver (Bevans, 2012; Haley, 2003; Weitzner, Haley, & Chen, 2000; McMillan, 2005; Ugalde, Krishnasamy, & Schofield, 2011). This is a time during the family life cycle that the family often needs to re-arrange the way it is structured, and operates. It is characterized by the shifting of relationship between an elderly adult and his/her adult child, specifically because the elderly parent begins to rely on the child for increased support and assistance. This is because in later adulthood, individuals begin to age and can become ill or frail (; Anderson & Sabatelli, 2011; McGoldrick, & Walsh, 2003). As part of caring for an individual, or family member
A Caregiver Agreement, sometimes referred to as a “Personal Services Contract,” is a formal written agreement between an individual of advanced age or disabled individual, and one or more caregivers, who can be adult children, or other relatives, friends or professionals. The agreement generally states that the caregiver will provide personal care, managerial services, companionship or other services to the advanced aged or disabled individual in exchange for compensation. These agreements are helpful with estate planning and Medicaid.
In the story My Favorite Chaperone, by Jean Davies Okimoto, I believe the theme is how working together makes life's struggles easier. The characters show this theme throughout the story. As children immigrants, the main characters struggle with combining a new culture with their family culture to find a new identity without bringing shame to their family. In the story, Maya, the main character, faces issues in how to fit in with a new world in America. In this new world there are different rules and expectations while she still has to respect and follow her family's traditions and rules. This conflict is shown when Maya wants to go to a school dance, but knows her parents would never let her go especially after she gets in trouble for
