In the show House MD., Dr. House’s bizarre personality brings on a rather unique style of managing and supervising. Most of the time, the results of his techniques are effective, but it seems like he is questioned if his method is full proof. The episode I watched in this series is “Three Stories”, and the plot is Dr. House is teaching interns about three different hospital room situations. The supervisory skills and techniques I will explain about Dr. House is transparency, delegation, listening, and availability.
Ortiz (2011) states, “Not every decision needs a full, 360 degree explanation, but lots of secrecy is frustrating and ultimately dis-empowering to those you supervise.” In this episode, Dr. House walks the students through each scenario, and has the students go through the scenarios with Dr. House correcting them along the way. The students seem to be dumbfounded by some of his techniques through the medical process, and some are questioning him about if the methods are correct. He does a great job sharing is knowledge and experience, but he comes off as being arrogant and sounding like he is always right. One can argue though that it may be a sign of confidence.
The skill of delegation as a supervisor is one that every supervisor needs to possess greatly. This keeps good organization, proficiency, and understanding throughout a work area. Dr. House, as the head of Diagnostic Medicine, needs to ensure that all of his subordinate doctors and nurses understand how he wants the procedures accomplished. With Dr. House’s unique, but effective supervision technique, he is a great example of why supervisors need to develop their own effective methods of supervision. Using the supervisory skills portrayed by Dr. House of transparency, delegation, listening, and availability will help every supervisor reach success.

Cullen and Klein understand that deception is wrong and disrespectful to the patient but criticize that some cases are more complicated and not so black and white. They argue that physicians should be able to withhold information that can significantly benefit the patient. The key part is that the benefit is greater than what the deception causes.
Another problem with supervision is power which comes affects the relationship between the supervisor and supervisee. Factors like social position, race, gender, social class and sexuality, Issues of subordinate positions of women affect the supervisory relationship. As now it can be concluded that to make a supervision session effective it is essential to have a deep understanding of these facts and theories. Characteristics of both supervisor and supervisee are equally important. As supervisors must know their roles and responsibilities at the same time, supervisee should have interest towards reflective practice. Maintaining a good supervisory relationship will be useful to analyse the problems. If there are any signs of underperformance seen in the supervisee, the supervisor can approach them to sort out the matter before it causes
Introduction What does it mean to be an effective supervisor? Before taking this class, I thought that if a supervisor is able get their employees to work effectively, and efficiently, then the person is an effective supervisor. I didn’t realize until taking this class that supervisors do so much more. After learning more about the other tasks supervisors do like planning, being effective listeners, and motivating employees, I have a better understanding of effective supervision. I am aware that I have had supervisory experiences.
The developmental model, summarized in an article by Stoltenberg (2005), summarizes a supervision approach that uses developmental framework in clinical supervision. The author, Stolenberg (2005) and Ursula Delworth created a developmental model titled Integrated Developmental Model of supervision (IDM). IDM provided specific details about the changes in the supervisee throughout their time in clinical supervision. It also provided specific details on the types of supervision environments and supervisor intervention for each level of development (Stoltenberg, 2005).

There are antiheros in the books we see, movies or shows we watch, and in our everyday lives. The usual antihero is someone who lacks the traditional heroic qualities such as idealism, courage, nobilty, moral goodness, and kindness. Even though the antihero has negative heroic qualities, he still, in the end, does the right thing and is a hero. The typical antihero, especially in the TV world, is Dr. Gregory House from the series House, M.D. This show portrays a doctor filled with unorthodox diagnostic approaches and radical therapeutic motives that results in conflict between him and his colleagues. Each episode starts out with someone having a mysterious medical emergency. They come to Dr. House because he does whatever it takes to solve puzzling cases that come his way. Dr. House is the perfect antihero because of his personality and the way he handles social and medical situations, but in the end, he saves people’s lives. Dr. House is also the perfect antihero because he addresses several current social issues and pokes fun at society’s values.
It is imperative for supervisors to focus on what is required in order for his/her employees to accomplish their job. They must be supportive of their employees and provide continual feedback on their job performance .Supervisor need to include their employees when making changes that effect they way they perform their jobs or finding new way to do things that were problematic. Supervisors should give their employees more responsibly to make them feel more valued and powerful. The basic knowledge about supervision theories and processes would help them transition into a supervisory role. Even at sites that do not ask internship students to be supervisors, they are usually asked to take a part in a supervision group where they hear other clinicians’ cases and give feedback.
