Overcoming Obstacles Essay

An obstacle is a block in one’s way to prevent them to progress. Obstacles can be challenging rather than easy to achieve. In order to achieve an obstacle you need to never quit. When one overcomes a challenge there is a sense of pride that one might feel which gives motivation to do another task. Other obstacles take a while to achieve but it's always worth it when there is a great outcome. Throughout my life I have had to overcome an injury that has pushed me to my limits, and made me a stronger athlete and individual. In 2014, I was in the eighth grade and it was also my first year on the Cabot Dance Team. Each summer we have a dance camp, where we travel to learn our competition routines for the year. I was so devastated. The doctor referred me to a physical therapist so I could rebuild the muscle strength I had lost. Once I arrived at the physical therapist office was when the nerves really hit me. As I walked in the building the trainer pointed to the examining table and told me to take a seat and take my brace off. As he was looking at my swollen, bruised knee, I asked him if I was going to be able to dance again. He smiled and looked at me and said “you are definitely going to be able to dance again but it’s going to take a lot of hard work.” I told him I was ready. Later, after we did some simple exercises he told me to get on the bicycle machine and try to pedal forwards and backwards till I can pedal in a circle. This was one of the hardest things I had to do. I kept trying to get my knee up so I could pedal in a full circle, but the fear of my kneecap popping back out came into my head. The trainer knew I was worried about it and gave me motivation of getting back to dance to get me to pedal. When I finally did, I was overwhelmed with excitement,and at that moment I knew that I was going to have to give it my all until I was cleared to go back to
