In the school environment, teachers face many challenges and overcome obstacles that affect student learning. As an educator, I have experienced that I touch the lives of the students in many positive ways. Students as well as the teachers experience failure at least once in their lives and it is okay because when people fail, they learn from their mistakes. For this reason, teachers need to provide opportunities where students are able to succeed and face new challenges. For instance, when teachers fail to meet their goals or fails to improve student performance, they reflect in their teaching practices and improve their teaching practices. As a teacher leader, I took initiative and called parents for a meeting regarding tutoring after school and how they can help us out reach the goal. The intervention was for students and parents to sign a contract for mandatory tutoring and parents agree about the consequences at home if their son or daughter did not follow the contract. For instance, if a student did not attend mandatory tutoring, the parent would take away the cellular phone or not let them watch television until they attend the tutoring session. This action worked great in my school and created tremendous positive social change in the community because parents participated one hundred percent. Taking this course, I have learned that I can overcome these issues and challenges by becoming more prepared, acquiring more knowledge from online courses, workshops, research, and internet sources. For instance, I face challenges with students not wanting to learn or work in the classroom and I have to find solutions to these issues establishing communications with other colleagues. For this reason, I have to be prepared with different strategies that will meet the need of these students and lead them to success. In addition, I have to create interventions to diminish these issues and ask parents for support. As an educator, I feel that I have a long way to go and improve with my instructional strategies in a learning community. There are many other issues affecting student learning. National Coalition for Parental Involvement in Education is responsible for ensuring that the parents learn about why this integration is necessary. As the old saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child; it takes the school along with the parents, to make these changes happen. The parents have to motivate their students to want to do better, to want to increase their test scores and their overall school performance. Although many factors influence students achievements both non measurable and measurable, the role that teachers play in student achievement matters most compared to any other aspect of schooling. Teachers view of students has manifest over the years throughout society, and has impacted students schoolwork, and their classroom setting. They are given the opportunity to challenge their students in their work, and push them to succeed. If teachers view their students only as a place to deposit information rather than to exercise and mold, students will lack the work necessary to excel in the classroom.
In a society where kids must go to school up to the collegiate level, teaching is an impactful career choice. Teachers help contour the minds of future leaders of the world. Furthermore, teachers play a crucial role in guiding students to the knowledge, skills, and abilities they need to succeed in life, and teachers lead students to make informed decisions on any topic the meet in the future. As a teacher, a person must relinquish their knowledge onto students. Finally, they must prepare their students for all the obstacles they will face later in life.

Professional development is a component of being a highly effective teacher. Danielson and Garmston expressed the need for teachers to continue to learn new skills, show professionalism, and complete self-reflections. The teacher, as a role model, must demonstrate a love for learning by continuing to grow and develop. The students will learn to be life-long learners when their teacher demonstrates the same skill.
My teaching career has been spent learning how to provide appropriate support, guidance, patience, & understanding, as well as to enhance academic growth & success, for all students. My purpose as a teacher is to enrich and inspire the lives of young students with moderate/intensive needs by providing access to information instead of functioning as the primary source of information for students to flourish. My teaching methods will be to create an environment ripe with opportunities for discovery and exploration which will allow all students to learn at their own pace, generate questions and construct knowledge, while providing hands-on practice of skills in authentic situations as well as to make learning intriguing and meaningful to all students. Carefully planned and constructed learning environment will also allow the teacher more time to meet the individual needs of each student. Another important factor to a well-prepared learning environment is to facilitate learning, and providing students with balance and consistency (2004). Young students require a balance between various classroom dimensions, including activities guided by the teacher and independent work, quiet work and active work, gross motor and fine motor activities, and open and closed aspects to the curriculum and classroom materials (2004). Consistency is also a required condition for learner success. Schedules (daily and weekly), the enforcement of classroom rules, and student expectations should not be in flux but remain consistent. The DET have put forward a model for improving student outcomes that includes: excellence in teaching and learning; professional leadership; positive climate for learning and community engagement in learning. I have been able to demonstrate ‘excellence in teaching and learning’, during my placements (rounds) and over my coaching career.
Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching. Reflecting and analyzing over and over again the best way to teach to learn and how to make students to extend what has been learned. The many hours spend in the classroom will never be enough to plan lessons, prepare materials, review pupils tasks and exams, as well, all the administrative requirements one has to cover for whatever institution we work. Besides all this a good teacher, a professional one, will have to find the time to keep preparing to improve oneself.
Barriers to learning are things that make learning difficult. There are many different kinds of barriers that are present in schools as well other learning environments such as ABET. When it comes to learning environments there are two forms such as internal barriers of the learners (these the learner faces inside) and external ones. Since there are many barriers in learning I shall only discuss four that I feel are common barriers in ABET, such as:
Coming into this class, I figured we would learn about how to handle different kinds of situations from a teacher’s standpoint. As it turns out, the class is much more than just that. I figured there would be group discussions consisting of some controversial issues, but I had no idea how the course would make me feel as a person and as a future educator. So far, this class has brought to light the incredibly difficult decisions I will have to make as a teacher. Not only will those decisions affect the child and parents of that child at hand, but myself as well.

With the proper guidance and support, teachers can achieve academic excellence in the classroom. They follow their principal’s vision and share their goals. Teachers also serve as leaders in their classroom. They share their vision and goals with their students promoting positive attitudes in the classroom. Just like it is important for principals to respect and understand what their teachers need, students also need the support, understanding, respect and empathy from their teachers. When teachers demonstrate commitment in the classroom and set high expectations they raise the level of learning in the classroom. Teachers that work with the students and their parents to understand and meet their needs will achieve positive academic outcomes.
