I have faced obstacles in my life such as my parent’s divorce, a death in the family, and mental obstacles. When my parents were still together they both pushed me to be a better me but since the divorce I have found that I decide my success and I can push myself to become better. Their divorce has made me independent and this will help me in college, because independence is what college is all about. Since starting college, I have noticed that I have become more independent. This has helped me and will continue to help me throughout college and even after college. I recently lost both of my great grandparents and that also took a huge toll on me. I use my hard work ethic to push through the tough homework assignments or study for those important tests. I feel my work ethic is reflected in my above average grades. I also use my work ethic in my job which will help me pay for my college, therefore making me more successful. I used to struggle with self-esteem issues and low confidence and it even got to the point where it was affecting my school work. I used to be afraid of being called on by the teacher or reading in front of my classmates in fear that I would mess up or do something wrong. I have overcome my low confidence and self-esteem issues, although it wasn’t an easy task. I had to step out of my comfort zone big time in order to overcome this obstacle. I would volunteer myself for reading out loud or I would raise my hand to be called on. At first, I was ridiculed like I feared but I slowly started to care less about it. I slowly started to care more about my education, instead of being bullied for making a mistake. Overcoming my mental obstacles has helped me enormously in college because it allows me to be in more challenging classes without being in fear of messing
