Dental Hygiene Personal Statement

There are many reasons why I choose to be a Dental Hygienist. I came to United States of America from Burma in 2005 – I was eleven years old. I remember my Dad taking us to a dental office for the first time in my life. I got my teeth cleaned. I can still remember the weird after-clean feeling in my mouth. I could not stop feeling the back of my teeth with my tongue. It felt very clean. From that day on, it lit a spark in my mind that I would strive for this career. I did not even know the title of this career until my high school years, but it was and still is the only career I want to pursue.
I have faced many obstacles along the way. I did not do so good my freshman year in college. My grades were not what I wanted them to be. However, I retook some classes to raise my grades and I am trying hard to be the best student as possible.
I had reassurance when I visited dental offices to observe their dental hygienist. I visited three different offices. I spent more than two days with one of the office because I felt like they gave me lot of supports and advices. Not only that, I helped them …show more content…

The first office I visited was a general practice so they were very busy. They hygienist there saw about ten patients each day. The patients vary from kids to elders. Some had really nice teeth and some did not. I enjoy watching and observing the deep cleaning process. During that process, the hygienist gave me a mask so I could look closer to see what she was actually doing. It was my favorite. It gave me a very satisfied feeling – I was intrigued. As much as I enjoyed observing this process, I wanted to do it. It made me realize this is the career path I really wanted to follow and achieve.
