. Sometimes when my kids stay up late using electronic devises and do not get the sleep required at night it may lead to many negative effects for them. Over-sleeping, due to lack of sleep, can cause them to be lazy and not productive in school. They become less involved and interesting of what happen around and usually lost the ability to focus on anything else around them. The real world basically becomes an annoyance. They become feel a sleep and missing important lecture materials or test then causing them to receive a great grade and all because of a distracting electronic gadget. Using an excessive screen time can cause problems with child development and lack of social skills. Instead of going and playing outside kids rather sitting in front of the TV or sit cooped up in their rooms and playing video games. They don’t want to play of social activities games such as board games or outside games. This causes them to become obese and also causes their body to become hunched from staying bent over all day. Essentially, I see, the more time a kid spends looking at a screen, the less time they are being active. I noted that my kids after using iPhone or iPod for long period of time for example one hours, have difficulty stopping the game and starting to read a book instead. They become incapable of concentrating long enough to read and quickly lose attention on the book because they begin to concern about something else. The kids like a sponge that absorb all information around so we as parents must teach them how to use electronic devices in appropriate way. In conclusion parenting is a full time job to help the young ones learn and coup with the childhood problems, and keep a watch out for them is a difficult task in modern age. Use of technology by parents is their way caring but overdoing hurts the relationship. Parents need more often to talk to kids about their issues rather than pointing out their mistakes using Hi-Tech devices. Whether it's by way of smart-phones, a television, a computer, or a tablet, screen time has negative effects on the cognitive ability of children and adolescents. It has even been proven that it can lead to Alzheimer's disease when a person, in the age range of 20-60 years old, views an hour more than the recommended amount of screen time a day (Sigman 14). In children, the amount of screen time viewed has a relationship with the likelihood of developing a deficit in his attention span; the longer a child views screen time, the more likely he is to be diagnosed with an attention disorder. Screen time, or television, can cause attention disorders and other problem with cognitive abilities in children and adolescents that effect the education they can comprehend.

Gentile warns that kids are spending more time playing a video game every day and parents need to do something about it before it goes out of hand. Gentile also does several types of surveys and experiments on children one that plays for eight hours while another plays for five hours. The author agrees that kids today are spending excessively much time in front of a game system and parents are not doing anything about it to stop it. The most debated issue in relation to children's attention spans is the negative impact video technology can have. In particular video games, which are a fairly new area of media to consider, and are pervasive throughout our society with usage as high as 160 million users. There is no doubt they are a powerful source of entertainment for children in today's society. In recent years researchers have expressed concerned about the number of attention deficit disorder cases identified in adolescents and its relationship to video technology. While most agree that more research needs to be performed, others disagree and point to the benefits that video games have shown in improving education. Even though research has found that playing video games can lead to improvements in education, video games contribute to attention problems because adolescents who spend more time playing video games display more symptoms of ADHD and research and case studies prove this.
A child's overall development can be mental, physical, and emotional. In the article “Give me that old time recess”, the author discussed the negative consequences of children losing playtime. “In a growing number of studies, diminished opportunities for outdoor playtime have been linked with school difficulties, increased childhood anxiety, disconnection from nature, attention deficit disorder, and the epidemic of childhood obesity” (Gross-Loh Par 4). This quote is important because children today are suffering more from obesity, and attention deficit disorders due to the decrease of structured play. Children are becoming less active due to the the dependency on technology. The increase in obesity is the result of the rise in children having smart phones. According to The Huffington Post, people are on their devices for on average about eleven hours and fifty-two minutes a day. That is almost half a day and a lot longer than most people sleep or work. People have not realized yet how they or their families are being affected by this constant use of technology.
