An outstanding individual possesses certain qualities that are respected by others, which also serve to create an image of excellence. Three of the most important characteristics in being an outstanding individual are: integrity, resilience, and dedication. I am confident that I have personally met the definition of an outstanding individual, by embodying these specific traits. A leader proves they have integrity when they can continuously adhere to their values. Leading by a positive example not only demonstrates that an individual is morally upstanding, but is able to motivate others to pursue their morals as well. I live by three personal morals, which are to treat others how you want to be treated, be tolerant of differences, and to add value to the world. I maintain my morals, and always follow through with my promises to others. I do not believe in following a path that is in opposition to my beliefs, even if it means traveling in contrast to my peers. Maintaining my …show more content…
My father passed away in 2005, and my mother has been the main supporter in my life. Unfortunately, my mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2013, which became a large financial and emotional burden in our home. Instead of giving up, I became determined to provide a better life for m mother. I became employed at 16, in order to lower the amount of financial stress on my mother. I also decided on a career in Physical Therapy to help patients with neurological conditions, such as Multiple Sclerosis. In my junior year of high school, I enrolled in a Sports Medicine Technologies program. Through this class, I have gained the enough knowledge to improve muscular strength that my mother has lost from her disease. I had the option of ignoring the obstacles that have occurred in my life, but I have chosen to utilize them in the most positive
John Maxwell once said, “People buy into the leader before they buy into the vision.” A leader must have a solid foundation as a human being before he can try to pursue the public about his visions. He will be examined from every angle about his leadership traits, style, characteristic, and so forth. All of these areas of leadership comes together in what we know as integrity. Integrity is doing what is right morally; it requires honesty, making the “right” decisions for the community, taking the blame, and being selfless. In Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and Machiavelli’s The Prince, there are various examples as to what is the difference between a good and a bad leader, including initiative, accountability, generosity, and the leader’s values.
"Colleen Murnane, PhD in Physical Therapy”. Hearing those words will mark the beginning of accomplishing a long list of goals. My two favorite hobbies of helping people and exercising have led me to my perfect career choice as a Physical Therapist. My father passed away in 2005, and my mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2013. These two events in my life influenced my desire to support others, and families that have experienced situations of adversity. I want to use Physical Therapy to help commit sedentary and injured individuals to a lifetime of wellness, and would also like to assist people with neurological conditions that have affected their motor skills. I am a firm believer that personal success comes from the positive impact
I believe that with integrity come all the other values of leadership, service, and excellence. Integrity is all encompassing. You can't have it without having the other values.
Up until this point, much of the focus has been centered on defining effective leadership from characteristics and traits that have been identified through research and behavioral science, but what do the followers have to say about the leader’s characteristics and traits? Furthermore, what makes someone want to follow a leader? Thus, there are five specific traits or characteristics a leader must display before being followed, and the first characteristic or trait is honesty (Shead, 2016). While people desire to follow an honest leader, honesty is the key trait that allows the leader to influence others besides power; however, leaders have very few opportunities to demonstrate honesty, especially in large organizations (Shead, 2016). Therefore,
Our problem then, is how to turn individual men and women into fine upstanding citizens. Personal character and integrity are the marks of a responsible, respectful citizen. Oprah Winfrey once said, “Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody is going to know whether you did it or not.” We must discuss ways to promote the benefits of becoming a person of character and integrity. We must also examine the tenets of character and integrity to learn what it truly means to be a person of great integrity.

As I begin my freshman year of college, I have yet to discover what I want out of my life. One thing I am certain of, is my desire to work in the health care industry. As of right now, I am looking at becoming a physical therapist and it is my number one option. It was not until recently that I had even thought about becoming a physical therapist. All throughout high school, I was strongly set on becoming your everyday physician. When I realized that I wanted to obtain a job that could still be connected with sports, I decided physical therapy instead of an athletic trainer. My reasoning behind choosing physical therapy is that in physical therapy would I not only be able to stay connected with sports, but I would also have the chance to reach out and help others who could have had surgery or been in a life threating car accident and are struggling to learn to walk again.
I strongly believe that one of the most powerful techniques to develop as a leader is to become self-aware, be honest and always have integrity in any situations. The word integrity is usually used as a synonym for goodness, trustworthiness, or decency, however it mean so much more than that. Overall it covers a person’s moral character and what he or she thinks, believes, and performs. A person who speaks about integrity and fails to demonstrate integrity in his or her actions can be categorized as a hypocrite. For example, someone who projects or pretend to have a high level of integrity, however fails to follow up on his or her actions, making false claims, and/or not doing the right thing when no one is watching them. There should not be an assumption or accusation on a person integrity, every claim

As the Dalai Lama explains, “a leader will be respected only when she acts according to the principles she says she believes” (pg. 30). Precisely because the behavior of leaders is taken as an example and followed by many, it is essential for leaders to be able to demonstrate that they can act in an ethical and responsible way no matter the situation they might experience. People learn more from what they see, and if what they observe is a behavior that goes against the policies of the company, they will think that is okay to do the same. Buddhism teachings present that what makes a true leader is ability to have a positive attitude and the capacity to always act in a way that will never compromise their values or their

In order to lead and to be someone who upholds their values, one must be fully aware of what is important to them and what drives them.
I feel integrity is an important value that managers need to have to become successful leaders. Integrity is the key for leaders to lead, to give their employees the ability to perform their jobs. We, as managers, need to always do the right things, even if we do not gain anything and we need to be honest. Managers with integrity could help their team to succeed at work by creating an honest, truthful, and respectful work environment. Ethical leadership organizational ethics and socially responsibility are inseparable (Johnson). Leadership is not a inherited gift or family heritage; it is not a degree from an ivy league graduate school. Becoming a leader is an intentional process of growth that must be lived out experientially (Mullane). Ethical leaders demonstrate three distinctive characteristics, knowledge, action and character. Leaders have to have the ability to say “yes” or even “no” to a never ending series of challenges. A leader needs to be able to define their values, character and leadership style. When accepting the role of leadership you become encumbered by ethical issues and concerns. .
