Origami Art Experience Analysis

Over the course of ten-weeks I have chose to learn origami art as my journey to develop as an artist. I have faced many challenges and struggles in learning origami art. Often I would face many circumstance that demotivate me causing a lost of interest. However, I try to find solutions to overcoming these obstacles. Origami is under the visual art strand of The Arts. Through origami I get to see how different culture have their unique forms of art, origami being from the Japanese culture. It is the arts of paper folding where you use a simple piece of paper to create anything you desire through a series of different folds (Smith, 2004).

Students also have a higher level of appreciation of a different culture. Origami is an effortless form of art, which includes mathematics. As they are using a flat piece of paper to create a model that is three-dimensional. Origami also requires their logical thinking and involves symmetry, geometry and algebra (Terrell, 2013). Origami art can also be a form of communication, as most traditional origami designs have their stories, and message and is symbolic (Battaglia & Decio, 2015). Taking the crane that I made for instance, the paper crane represents longevity. When one thousand paper cranes are presented, it is like sending out wishes for long life and good health (Temko, 2011). This is an example of how origami can communicate idea, meanings, stories and hidden messages.
