There are many symbols in the reading March that have a significant value. Throughout the graphic memoir, John Lewis shows there are certain symbols that are very common. Sorted in categories, each concrete object given in the photos provided are modified by their mutual abstraction. There are a few concrete objects that have a similar general idea that represent some type of development. In the novel, photos are shown of John Lewis preaching amongst the chickens he was taught to raise. The symbol chicken gives off an expression of people to uplift amongst a specific religion, also a feeling of skill developing. The symbol feet represent political action simply for how they were demonstrated amongst this graphic memoir. The cinematic techniques shown provide the whole meaning of the book series and its title. Feet are used throughout the book, showing that the people who marched to influence desegregation. The sign saying counter closed is an object that expresses a discriminative feeling. Simply for putting these signs when African Americans sat down to be served, immediately the servers told them they were not to be served. Bar stools or lunch counter are also symbols with a substantial meaning of segregation. At diners usually customers are treated first come first serve. But when it came to African Americans, they were asked to leave even if they sat down on the bar stools. Lewis and his companions express the feeling of humiliation. Buses also objects with symbolic meaning of seclusion. In every public transportation provided, races were always divided. Either if it was the bus to bring people from town to town, or children who went to school. The court house is also a meaningful object with a feeling of isolation. The bridge is shown in the beginning of this graphic memoir as a symbol of division. The purpose of a bridge is to get from one place to another. Particularly getting over a certain valley or river people use bridges. License plates are units given to label cars, given that their symbolic meaning of foreign. Having a license plate that was not from the south label visitors, sometimes involving them in dangerous situations. Segregation made it not safe for visitors from northern states to travel down south. The suitcase Lewis had also gives representation of traveling. The word choice in describing the black line on the road further indicates the connection. Warren says that the black line is black, slick, and tarry. When the novel was written, these were commonly used derogatory terms for African Americans. The author also uses a racial slur to describe the cotton chopper in the second image. Even the task the African American is doing, cutting cotton, is reminiscent of the work a slave would do. Warren is indicating that the black line on the road symbolizes African Americans and their history, specifically the history of racial prejudice and slavery. This racist symbolism is furthered through the dialogue of the African Americans and the repeated use of racial slurs. When the African Americans speak to each other, their dialogue is portrayed as uneducated. Warren establishes the racism in connection to the black line through slurs and stereotypes against African Americans. The symbolism of the slab in contrast, develops into the opposite. While the black line is the history and continuation of racial prejudice, the concrete slab on the road offers a different path. The concrete has been developed into a wholesome and peaceful path. Symbolism is a way to use symbols to represent ideas or qualities. In the Lord of the Flies, by William Golding tells a story about boys who are stranded on an island after surviving a plane crash. These children come in contact with many unique elements that symbolize ideas or concepts. On the island we see conflict between Ralph and Jack ultimately symbolising civilization versus savage. The use of symbols such as the conch shell, beast, and even Piggy's specs, demonstrates that humans, when liberated from society's rules, allow their human nature become evil to dominate their idea of civilization.
Various symbols are used in "The Lesson," by Toni Cade Bambara, to represent the social and economic inequality faced by the children in this story. The children, not that they asked for it, are dealt the bad hand by fate. It is up to them to decide what to do about it or even to do anything at all.

Unlike literature, symbols can be associated with various tangible or intangible objects to different people. This is because symbols are not comprehensible to the general public. I propose that symbols have four different levels of understanding while literate means on communication can only convey one level. The deeper connections associated with symbols cause informed viewers to experience a wide array of emotions when they see a symbol they are affiliated with. Organizations such as businesses, fraternities, and athletic clubs use symbols to invigorate their members with emotion that is not supposed to be acquired by the rest of society.
In the Lord of the Flies, William Golding uses a variety of symbols to represent ideas, or abstract notions or conceptions about people, places, and things. A symbol, according to the Webster's Dictionary, is an object that stands for something in addition to its literal meaning. In the book, there is a continual breakdown of society and civilization on the island. During this breakdown, Golding uses symbolism to further explain the process. Some of the things he symbolizes in the novel are the island itself, the conch, the boys clothing, and the violence.

As the book opens, the reader learns about Charley’s disability. The author mentions about Charley’s peg leg, and then goes on to talk about how he came about to losing his leg. The lost leg can be interpreted in a very symbolic way. The loss of his leg signifies imbalance in his life. The fact that he lost it because of a gun beneath a “Rose” can also be interpreted as: the reason for his instability is his dead love, Rose. The character seems alienated, and Green uses Charley’s misfortunes to draw sympathy from the reader. Also, the author’s intention of mentioning that the bus and the passengers were departing could be to reemphasize Charley’s isolation. The author tends to list out Charley’s struggles and the events from the war to increase the effect left on the reader, emphasizing the grief in Charley’s life.
