The necessity of the optometrist is what drives me to pursue this career. Sight is the most precious of all our five senses and to be involved in a profession that cares for the sight and eye health of people is a big ambition of mine. Pursuing a career with a strong scientific aspect is also another factor as I have always been fascinated by the fields of biology and chemistry.
I have attained various vital skills through studying my selected subjects. A-level Mathematics has helped me excel in my ability to analyse lengthy problems and solve them systematically. This is beneficial as optometrists should have the skill to understand mathematical as well as scientific information. Studying biology and chemistry at an advanced level further increased my skills as it allowed me to understand concepts at a molecular level. In addition to improving my independent working through undertaking experiments in the laboratory independently. These are

skills which I consider to be significant for an optometrist. I look forward to being able to apply the knowledge that I have acquired so far in these subjects to gain a detailed understanding of optical science. To further my understanding of optometry, I spent two weeks at a local optician where I was familiarised with the pieces of equipment used on a day to day basis by an optometrist.
Furthermore I had the chance to sit in with the optometrist during his appointments and witness how he carried out a range of procedures including eye tests and contact lens fittings. During this time I figured out that communication skills are vital for this role to achieve a strong relationship with patients. This exceptionally beneficial experience further fuelled my interest in optometry. Currently I am employed and work at a large respected company that is Manchester United. I have gained several personal skills from working as a kiosk assistant in this job. My role requires the utmost professionalism and a positive attitude along with the ability to adapt to different working environments, as well as working successfully in a team. I believe these qualities will be favourable to any career as well as university
life. In my spare time I have participated in numerous extra-curricular activities which have also been linked to helping others. Throughout my time in Year 11, me and a group of students, spent time mentoring pupils in Year 7 and assisting them with maths related queries. Moreover during my time in high school I took part in a 13 mile sponsored walk for charities including Water Aid and Alzheimer’s Society, in which we proudly raised over £30,000. These activities provided me a sense of gratification through allowing me to work as part of a team with a mutual aim. Being of a sport nature, I practised freestyle martial arts for a few years. That experience taught me important lessons such as being a hardworking individual and one who doesn’t give up easily. I feel these characteristics are valuable to any profession. On a regular basis I demonstrate my teamwork skills as I am the captain of a Friday league football team. This further shows that I maintain a healthy work life balance by managing time effectively and that is a vital asset to professionalism life.
Optometry involves of a combination of intricate practical skills and academia allowing the improvement of an individual’s vision as an outcome changing their quality of life. I would feel privileged to gain the opportunity to study Optometry enabling me to improve the ocular health and vision of others as it would be a valuable contribution to the society.
My interest into becoming an optometrist had begun when I was in high school; it happened in an unconventional way. It was not through watching videos, or someone explaining to me what optometry was, but rather, seeing the power of it firsthand. There was a point in my life where I felt emotions that I was unable to comprehend at the time. Seeing a family member on an operating table was the most petrifying moment that I have gone through, especially when the person on the table was my father. My father had to get a chalazion removed from his right eyelid. The doctor told my family that my father would be susceptible to certain health risks because of his diabetes and the severity of his cyst. This procedure was the hardest thing I have had to deal with in my life because it made me feel helpless. Usually, when my dad needs help he always asks me, but this time I could not do anything. It is interesting to think that something so small had such a big affect on my life.
I want to be a physician assistant. I am interested in this career because I like how physician assistants can work in several different specialties. This will give me choices to change my specialty if I do not like the one that I originally choose. Also, I have always been a lifetime learner and I would like to try out different specialties. This will help me to gain more knowledge. After working as a physician assistant, If I decide to become a doctor then I can do that too. I love working with patients. Being a physician assistant would help me to interact more with people and will give me a chance to help others.
My interest in the career of optometry stems from my first experience in the optometry office to receive my first pair of glasses when I was in middle school. I distinctly remember the moment when my optometrist slipped my new glasses over my eyes for the first time. Suddenly, everything in the room came into sharp, clear focus. I knew that the glasses would help me see the board in school, but I was astonished to find that I could see small details about the room, as it had never before occurred to me that I should have been able to see these details. I was also surprised that I was even able to see the expressions on the faces of people who were standing far away from me. It was one of the most incredible, freeing, and empowering moments of my life. As I walked out of the optometry office, I felt
I find occupational therapy to pique my drive to teach people valuable life skills as well as learn from those people and their experiences. Being an occupational therapist would allow me to have one-on-one interactions with patients and establish meaningful relationships over the course of time. It would also give me the dutiful privilege and responsibility of instilling confidence in others and helping them realize their full potential in self-suffiency. All of my personal experiences, challenges, educational backgrounds, and professional interactions have guided me toward pursuing my goals of gaining experience working in all populations, enabling patients to thrive in their daily lifestyle, and spread public awareness of what OT has
My journey towards the field of optometry began in an unsuspecting place; a tiny pharmacy situated inside of a local medical facility. Throughout high school, I spent my time outside of class behind a counter, shadowing and working for a pharmacist who instructed me on the many facets of the profession. I always knew I wanted a career in the field of health, and the more I experienced the more I was certain that becoming a pharmacist was the perfect profession for me.
I have been always interested in having a career that is related to health and wellbeing, in fact a career that gets the university education directly involved and puts it into practice. General medical practitioner is the suitable career match for me. I have been studying science for quite a while and I truly enjoy learning more through this field. Choosing medicine as a career is not just about the university education though, suitable character, interpersonal skills and many other factors are contributing for being successful, and I was trying to understand myself, my interests and evaluate my skills to investigate if I am a suitable match for this job. The last shot for the personality evaluation was in bioscience work shop and I have found out that I am more of an artistic person who seeks independence through work and fine with team work, also creative, on the other hand people and data focus and I could find many other useful skills within this category that matches my future career. Accordingly I could be a suitable candidate to pursue this job after having related education and practice. It is easy to have a strong income while working as a medical practitioner or generally a medical doctor but it does not pay off easily as there is a great responsibility involved and it could be a very stressful job. After all it is valuable that the daily activities of a medical doctor contribute in making a healthier society and productive in a very positive way. Being productive at the end of the day for a job, is a very important factor for me to consider about my future career, and medical GP is a very best example of being productive in many different aspects.
After I changed my major, I discovered that biology students were, understandably, focused on getting into medical school. I managed to come across a classmate, named Adriana, who introduced me to optometry. To be honest, I was not thinking about optometry. Most students who plan to apply to medical school major in biology. Adriana, however, held a different view, and that caught my attention. In addition, she has been working at an optometry office for quite sometime. I began to show interest in the optometry field, and I started to consult her and pulling information from her about the field. She helped me...

LASIK eye surgery, also called, laser-assisted in-situ kerkatolmileusis, is a procedure which corrects vision problems and eliminates the need for glasses or contact lenses. It’s a type of eye surgery that changes the shape of the cornea using a laser. With LASIK eye surgery, the main goal is to “bend light rays to focus more precisely on the patient’s retina” and to produce clearer and sharper vision.
I chose to become a dentist as being a child I had to visit a dentist many times for correction of malaligned teeth that i had. So my dentist who was also a specialist in the field of orthodontics inspired me deeply as it gave me a vague idea of how can i also bring smile and self confidence back to an individual by providing him with a competent smile again by incorporating the blend of my hand creativity and mental alertness, same as my dentist did for me thus returning me my self esteem and the confidence to smile again .Thus i found this field very satisfying and fulfilling.
The patient is a 43 year-old female insurance sale agent who came to the clinic for annual eye examination. She complained from symptoms of ocular irritation and burning when she wakes up in the morning. She felt ocular dryness in the afternoon and the eyes look red. She has also noted different height of her eyelids when putting make-up on. She denied significant problems with driving, TV watching, computer use or reading. She also denied flashes, floaters or diplopia. The patient was myopia with no prior eye surgeries, previous history of eye trauma, amblyopia or strabismus. She did not use any medication. The past ocular family history was negative. Social history was negative, too.
The practical assessments in biology and chemistry has furthered my analytical skills by being able to use my results to further solve the problem, whether it is finding the concentration of a chemical by using several equations or being able to distinguish what stage the cell is undergoing in mitosis. The mathematics side of my subjects also shows my understanding how a very small aspect can be solved by doing either one or a few equations even if it's just the pH of a substance. I also study Environmental Studies, this has shown me of how the environment also has a big impact on our health whether it is climate change or pollution. I have previously visited an A Level chemistry open day at Manchester Institute of Biotechnology where we attended talks from research scientists, and had a tour round the laboratories where we observed hi-tech equipment and scientific research in the process. There was also an interactive science stands at the open day regarding many various topics such as spectroscopy/spectrometry and synthetic
Undertaking A-Levels has given me underpinning knowledge, which will be necessary for me to thrive in Audiology. It has expanded my understanding and knowledge about the world we live in and has made me recognise how something so ‘simple’ such as hearing, in actuality is exceedingly complex. Studying Biology has offered me a direct look into the development of the world in a biological sense and it provides me with an understanding of how certain functions within the human body operate. My studies in Chemistry have allowed me to be
As a child I had always been interested in medicine and the medical world. My passion of learning about the human body started when I was younger. I encountered many health problems throughout my toddler years. I looked up to the doctors and medical staff around me and continue to look up to them, they were and are still my heros. That is why my goal in life is to become a general surgeon. I want to be able to save many lives since it is possible now to do so now.
