I would like to ask you a question about school lunch. If you have to pick only one of choices, would you like students to have greasy pizza in school cafeteria food or have fresh chicken sandwich or salad from Chick Fil A? I’m pretty sure you would pick second choice, because greasy pizza sounds terrible. These days, variety of fast food is gradually increasing. Both parents and students think that eating fast food is more beneficial than school cafeteria food. Offering fast food in the school cafeteria will change student’s life in numerous ways.
One benefit of having fast food on campus is there will be less accident. A study of three North Carolina counties over four years found that there was a significantly higher rate of risk for car accidents during open campus lunch period compared to any other times of the day. Some students have hard time to manage their lunch time to go off campus for lunch so they are speeding to come back to the school on time. People who are taking college course have no time to eat lunch because they don’t have time to go to fast food restaurant to pick up food then come back to the school on time. According to National Public Radio reports that school lunch food are rejected by fast food giants like Kentucky Fried Chicken because of the food quality and nutrition. It means that fast food have more good choices with nutrition such as Vitamin C, protein, and essential fats. Also, a data from U.S. center for Disease Control and Prevention said almost 7000 children became victim to the norovirus between 1998 and 2007 from school cafeteria food. This explains that having fast food would be so much better than getting food poison or norovirus from the school cafeteria food.
