With the recent shift to web based communication, everything, including shopping, has gone online. With online shopping, consumers experience being in the comfort of their own home and they do not have to face bustling crowds. On the contrary, though, online shops allow for customer reviews on their items. The problem that these online stores are facing is that fake users are commenting on items to either boost or lower the ratings. Seventy percent of people trust online reviews (Fake Online Reviews). Online superstores like Amazon.com are popular because of their convenience. Amazon can post items themselves or independent stores can use their website to sell items. Since Amazon sells millions of items online each year, users have to be careful when trusting product reviews. With these faulty reviews, consumers face lack of trust in online stores. There are five ways to spot a fake review, there is software being developed so websites can spot and delete the review, and false reviewers are being fined for writing inaccurate review.
According to a CNET article by Dong Ngo, there are many ways to spot a fake review on an online website. This article states five ways to tell if an online article is illegitimate. The first of these ways is when the review does not state any downsides to the product being reviewed. Regardless how good the item is, most times it has one or two things wrong with it (Ngo). This is not to say, though, that a legitimate review may be a fake one. The next way to spot a fake review is if the reviewers’ names are a random combination of numbers and symbols. When all a user is trying to do is make a fake review, they will not take the time to make up a fake first and last name. The third way to spot...

However, it becomes controversial when people start to advertise how good these products are without them knowing or with them lying. Chang discusses “I don’t say yes to every company because I don’t want to recommend a product to my viewers if I don’t believe in it”. She said. I don’t want to lie to my subscribers, so I’m really honest about my reviews and stuff.” (Page 2).
This is because for example, if you buy a designer watch on an e-commerce site, you don’t know 100% if it’s original or not, which is why some customers don’t trust e-commerce sites. Also some customers have trust issues with e-commerce businesses because they think their personal details are not private. Customers also have issues when e-commerce sites personalise their usage of sites, by recommended other products, centred on what they purchased or searched for before.

Amazon.com operates in the Online Retail Industry. The sector is one of the fastest growing globally and is outperforming the ordinary retail marketplace. It was created after 1995 and it was only the Internet that made it possible for such an industry not only to be established but to become one of the most flourishing sectors in the business environment. What is interesting is that Amazon.com, together with eBay is the pioneer in the field. Both companies were launched in 1995 and are still extremely successful. The creation of e-mail in 1996 had a huge impact on the development of online retail by introducing a fast and easy way to communicate with customers. For this two-year period Internet usage doubled annually, thus, allowing for the expansion of the industry. Google is launched a year later, in 1998, only to become the most used search engine in the world and an essential partner for the online retailers by helping them tailor their websites to customer’s personal preferences and by advertising. After that, more and more people see the opportunity in the growing industry and enter it. By 2001 there are more than 513 million Internet users globally, which calls for action in terms of creating regulations and laws to protect the users and personal property. In 2003, Apple launches iTunes, and provides a platform for low-cost digital downloads. Another major change is the appearance of social media from 2004, which is one of the biggest influencer on the state of the industry. With the launch of iPhone in 2007, this trend strengthens as people get to enjoy the Internet anywhere they want to. From then on, technological advancements have made it extremely easy and fun to shop online, making it ...
Informative susceptible consumers with little knowledge about the genuineness of products seek the advice and assurance of peer and reference groups who are experts and more knowledgeable about the product/brand (Ang, et al., 2001; Lord, et al., 2001; Wang, Zhang, Zang, et al., 2005). Peer or reference groups with sufficient knowledge are aware about inferior quality and negative consequences of purchasing counterfeit products, and hence would advise avoiding the same which would affect their attitudes negatively (Phau & Teah, 2009).
But I found that every source that I looked at was giving the issue great reviews.
“If you want to understand today, you have to search yesterday,” quoted Pearl Buck. Most everyone has a time in their life where history becomes important to them. Whether that be tracing back family heritage, writing a research essay, or just out of curiosity. All and all, history is very influential to people’s lives and what better way to learn about history then to visit the website “Image Archive on the American Eugenics Movement.”
While going through reviews on Google, a two-star review for the Panda Express across from Waterford Lakes Town Center was found that did not seem to make a valid argument. The person that wrote the review was claiming that this restaurant is in an unsafe neighborhood. The experience that led to this conclusion was while waiting in the restaurant for 5 minutes with his wife outside, that this “was all the time it took for some creep dressed in full camo to gravitate towards her and ask "Can I interest you in some protection?".” The reviewer had stated that he had confronted another person at the theater across the street with similar mannerisms. Due to his experience, he believes that Waterford Lakes Shopping Center “attracts white trash and scary meth heads.”
After visiting and examining the PBS Web site, I was able to conclude that it is an extremely successful entertainment and educational site. The Web site has won many substantial awards, including the prestigious "Webbie Award" in 1998 and 1999. According to a recent survey, fifty-six percent of users at the PBS Web site are male and sixty percent are between the ages of eighteen and forty-four. Forty-four percent of the Web site users have children and fifty-seven percent make online purchases. (Gallup/Plaw Release: Survey of 40,000 Internet Users. Fall 1998.)
...est news about the stores from internet at once. That is called internet advertising. Most of the advertisements can be found on Facebook, a world famous communication website. So that people can always easily know about the information of a product. However, there are a few methods that might manipulate consumers in online shopping to buy something they do not need that much, such as free shipping, promotions and higher rated products. Some retailers usually manipulate consumers into buying more to get free shipping. Even the promotions and higher rated products can attract consumers into it as well.
I believe that some online stores can be really dishonest. I haven’t had nearly as many disappointments from in-store purchases as I did from online purchases. I’ve had the most disappointments with shipping. I’ve had experiences with sellers taking extremely long to finally ship an item. There were times when I never even received the item I ordered.
According to the IC3, in 2008, they received 275,284 complaints. Compared to the 2007 complaints, there were 33.1% more complaints. The crimes reported consisted of non-delivery of merchandise and/or payment which was 32.9%, auction fraud represented 25.5% of the complaints, credit and debit card fraud represented 9.0% of complaints, Confidence fraud, computer fraud, and check f...
