There are some students who find it easier to work in internet classrooms and some others that find it easier to stay with traditional classrooms. I think someone may choose internet classrooms if they have difficulty interacting with teachers and other students. Some people do not like being in the classroom because they do not feel at ease around certain people especially those who treat others with disrespect. It is hard for a student to concentrate and learn a lesson when they have that kind of pressure. When learning lessons over the internet, you might think its great that you can study anytime and anywhere. Sometimes other things can get in the way of your study time. When you go to school, there is a schedule to go by and nothing can really get in the way to distract you from studying. Being in the classroom listening to a teacher is much more interesting than sitting at home staring at a computer monitor. Not every teacher makes lessons interesting but most do, so I think it outweighs learning over the internet. A lot of different courses are offered over the internet. Some of these may be the right choice for certain students. One problem I see with this is that when the student has a question or does not understand something, they would have to research it instead of having a person to person interaction with the teacher. Also the teacher may sometimes offer examples that come from personal experiences. Computers cannot take the place of a human being. A student must have interactions with other students in order to learn how to communicate properly out of school. For example, someone cannot interview for a job if they have no communication skills. Communication is a basic foundation for many jobs. So many things are done now over the internet. If we also gave up the traditional classrooms, it would completely change the learning experience. People usually have a lot of memories of things they did in school.
However, when a student takes an online class the student and professor are at a disadvantage of building an interpersonal relationship. For example, a professor is unable to read the nonverbal cues of a struggling student through a computer screen or is unable to tell if a student is experiencing a true emergency. Just as, a student is unable to read their professors nonverbal cues that a particular chapter or assignment is vital to passing the course. I have taken classes on campus and online classes for three semesters now and have learned that regardless of class format a student needs to be dedicated, structured, self-motivated and not afraid to ask questions. A disadvantage of taking an online class is if a web portal is not working properly.
Yet one cannot praise the advantages without taking a look at the possible limitations of Web-based delivery. The authors, (Sunal et al., 2003) stated that Web-based students indicated dissatisfaction with the number of opportunities for interaction with the instructor and other students. (Simonson et al., 2003) concluded that access to technology, paradigm shifts for instructors, bandwidth limitations, and training and technical assistance may hinder course delivery. They (Simonson et al., 2003) reported too, that online courses require students to be motivated, self directed and responsible for their success. Another possible disadvantage with Web-based courses is the potential loss of social relationships and sense of community that exists in traditional face-to-face courses (Hiltz, 1998).
One of the reasons for online courses to be offered in colleges is level of comfort. In this case, students get less intimidated by some students around them in classrooms. Because there are students who smell bad and have rude personality, some students are likely to be uncomfortable around them and lose focus in class discussions. Additionally, students, especially ESL students who have a hard time speaking and writing in English can think longer than usual about what they want to say before saying it to avoid the usage of wrong grammar. Moreover, with online classes, students get more involved in discussions. Those students who are shy, quiet, and hesitant are likely to participate. As a result, they become more open, less shy, and more comfortable in discussions. According to Sara Cordell, a professor of English at the University of Illinois-Springfield, students attend and listen in her online class; furthermore, because students enjoy speaking with each other, and typing to each other, they get to engross actual time with other students as much as with her which fascinates her (Abramson). In brief, the major reason for more online courses to be offered in colleges is the comfort level of students because not all students are comfortable with other students around them in classrooms.
Online enrollment is rapidly increasing every year. Even though there is a tremendous amount of positive feedback about online learning, there are others that see nothing but cons. I, on the other hand, see nothing but the postives. Online learning keeps students motivated to do their work because they are allowed to work at their own pace and can take classes most traditional high schools do not offer.
Why is it that online classes have become more popular over the years than traditional courses? At first, I asked myself this same question, then with a little research I found out there were more positives than negatives to achieving an online education. I personally became intrigued by the idea of convenience, self scheduling, and self discipline; but this is not for everyone. Online school has become a great alternative for people who cannot attend a brick and mortar school. Getting an online education is very valuable; nonetheless, it comes with advantages and disadvantages.
The earlier generations utilized those methods to get through school and students today still can. Students that are in highschool are in their prime years to develop the brain and themselves as a person. These years should be taken advantage of. Online classes have similarities and differences in the way they provide education to students. Online classes may be a good fit for one student, and other students may prefer to take traditional classes exclusively as that is what works best for them. Everyone is different, and what works for one person does not always work for everyone else. Online classes have more flexibility than traditional classes, they also have different approaches to assignments and test, and both allow for social interaction among students. Online classes offer much more flexibility than taking traditional classes at a college or university.
Online school is better for students and more efficient. According to a 2013 report by the Babson Survey Research Group, over 6.7 million students were enrolled in at least one online class in 2011, and higher-education institutions continue to refine and enhance their online studying. Public school is troublesome as it has many issues regarding with students. Bullying is a serious problem in traditional schools. Parents believe their children are protected and when that's not the case they choose online schooling as a permanent academic home. Online high schools let teens work at their own pace, students can speed ahead when they are ready too and can take longer in courses that are more confusing. When students fall behind in traditional schools they turn to online schooling to make up missed credits. Parents can also be the ones that make their children's decision for education and choose online instead of traditional school.
In a K-12 setting, distance learning or traditional learning requires careful planning that must take place in order for the educational process to work for the students. When we look at both forms of education there are still pros and cons to both. Although online learning has made a major impact in the world of education, many people have not accepted this form of education. One of the reason for their concerns is that students cannot get fast answers to their questions about the assignment from the teacher. Another concern is that the students cannot perform effectively in a group collaboration that is taking place online. Also, students may not effectively do their homework from an online program. Lastly, some families do not have the technology at home for online learning.
Not all students can adapt to virtual learning, as students have to be good readers and the online program may lack the auditory support found in traditional classes. They also must be self-motivated and organized so as to keep track of their work and assignment due dates. Students wishing to take classes that require direct instruction and use of materials not available at home, such as science classes requiring lab work or cooking classes, may have to enroll in classes elsewhere. There has also been some concern “that students who are enrolled full-time in online public schools may suffer from a lack of opportunities for socialization, and consequently may fail to develop important social skills” (Sivin-Kachala & Bialo, 2009, p. 2). There are both pros and cons to virtual learning.
Perhaps one of the most impressive things that the Internet has done to improve education is videoconference teaching. Not only can this connect the teacher to a class thousands of miles away; it can also connect a class with other groups or events such as a city counsel meeting. Different classes can interact and discuss topics, or perhaps sit in on a discussion of experts. The Internet also, gives teachers the ability to teach a class online so that their students will be able to stay on task when they are not able to come to class. The online class idea has also made it possible for the average person to get his or her degree without having to go to a college campus physically. In total, the Internet has not only increased the amount of learning possibilities in the classroom, but it has created infinite amounts of learning opportunities for students and teachers. CLASSROOM Because of the Internet, it is possible for schools to have access to books without having them on the shelves of school libraries.
When I become a teacher there is no doubt that I will use computers in my classroom and my students will do activities with computers. It is just the way to do things now. There are so many valuable programs out there to help students learn and to help teachers teach that computers are pretty much a necessity in classrooms. In my opinion for an elementary classroom there should be at least five to ten computers in each room. Without the access to the computers it is hard to take advantage of all the wonderful things a computer has to offer. Even using the internet has a source of information for the students or has a tutorial for students who are struggling. There are so many ways that classrooms will benefit from computers.
Those who disagree with me think that online learning allows a student to learn at their own pace. Students are able to take the time to understand and figure out problems with the resources that are provided. The convenience of learning in an environment that is conducive to that particular students learning is provided by the student. If the student feels comfortable they are more apt

Technology today is integrated into the classroom as a teaching tool rather than being taught as a course. There are many ways that technology is used in today’s classroom such as the World Wide Web, Power Point, and Excel (Starr, 2011). Teachers will continue to be the most important aspect of a child’s education because they teach and technology does not. The use of technology in the classroom can bring advantages to a child’s education but can also bring disadvantages (Cleaver, 2011).
