Online Classes vs. Traditional Classes

As we advance in technology every day, more options for doing regular every-day things are becoming more available. One certain argument that has surfaced is online teaching through online classes. Online teaching offers students a chance to learn from teachers from far away while in the comfort of their home. Although everyone sees the idea as a brilliant one and many students entering college are jumping on the chance to take these online classes, it has many drawbacks, such as how poor time management and self-discipline is for most students in college, the miscommunication between the students and the teacher, and the learning process that comes with being taught through a computer screen.
When entering an online class, everyone is excited about the idea of being able to take on the assignments at their own pace whenever they feel like it. In traditional classrooms, you had a set date for everything; when to be there, when you’re going to study this and work on that, when this essay is due and that worksheet should be done. The deadlines are stressed more than enough and are made clear the day the assignment is assigned. Online, on the other hand, isn’t. There isn’t someone constantly reminding you that your essay is going to be due that weekend. Someone isn’t going to be there to tell you that it would be a good idea to change a line in a sentence before turning it in, possibly raising it a few points. Many students enter the online classroom ready to take it on, but most give up before the end. They stop doing assignments and stop checking for any changes the teacher could give them, or most stop checking their account all together. ...nt couldn’t be completed, you could possibly still be given a 0 on your grade while awaiting a reply to an email explaining the situation; while in traditional classrooms you could explain the situation to the teacher at the time it happens and possibly be given an extension on the assignment.
In conclusion, online classes are beneficial in a way, but more of a nightmare to take. The communication isn’t always there and assignments are clear; students lack the self-discipline to check their accounts for the classes every day and begin to fail the courses; you could be studying something that isn’t beneficial in any way to the tests you have to take; and, finally, the time management students have is terrible. Traditionally taught classes will always top classes taught online.
