On June 2016, there was a mass shooting in one of the gay night clubs in Orlando Florida. Around 2am on June 12, 2016, Omar Mateen, 29 years old, began shooting at the patrons at the club. Report show that some though that the shots were part of the music un aware of what was going on during that time. … held everyone in the club walking around shooting and kill people around him. 38 people were pronounced dead at Pulse eleven more were eventually pronounced dead at the hospital. Omar killed 49 people and injured over 53 others and was eventually killed but the cops after the drove an armored vehicle through one of the clubs walls after almost a 3 hour hold up. This shooting took place not only against the LBGT+ community but also the Latino community. He texted her throughout the ordeal stating that he was hiding in a bathroom and there was a shooter who was killing people. He stated to his mom that he was going to die. This realization that he had said a lot he told his mom he loved him and that he needed help, and she need to call 9-1-1. Then he stopped texting his mom. This left his mom in a huge panic. For these texts woke her up in the middle of the night at these messages stopped coming and she had no information on what was going on and if her son was even alive. She went to the hospital but he was not there and no one had informed her yet about what happened to her son. Not everyone who experiences trauma, obtains PTSD and some people are at more risk than others. Traumatic events a person experiences puts his/her body into a fight or flight mode, which causes the person to panic(Charles PTSD). Patients try to avoid triggering their stress with certain symbols, objects or motion surrounded by. Another soldier tells his story of experiencing PTSD about how he wasn’t on the battlefield, he was simply on a train, and started to see past experiences far worse than in Afghanistan. Posttraumatic Stress Disorder is defined by our book, Abnormal Psychology, as “an extreme response to a severe stressor, including increased anxiety, avoidance of stimuli associated with the trauma, and symptoms of increased arousal.” In the diagnosis of PTSD, a person must have experienced an serious trauma; including “actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violation.” In the DSM-5, symptoms for PTSD are grouped in four categories. First being intrusively reexperiencing the traumatic event. The person may have recurring memories of the event and may be intensely upset by reminders of the event. Secondly, avoidance of stimuli associated with the event, either internally or externally. Third, signs of mood and cognitive change after the trauma. This includes blaming the self or others for the event and feeling detached from others. The last category is symptoms of increased arousal and reactivity. The person may experience self-destructive behavior and sleep disturbance. The person must have 1 symptom from the first category, 1 from the second, at least 2 from the third, and at least 2 from the fourth. He was just like a normal, now 11, year-old boy. He went hunting, swimming, and did pretty much everything anyone else could do. She can still remember the day her brother had been shot, that was the day she had started to have terrible seizures. For when her brother was shot, it had hurt her as well. The noise had affected her brain development so part of her brain isn’t like it should. Her seizures normally last 3 to 5 minutes, about 3 times a week. At first, everyone had thought she was just faking it, but after a few weeks, they knew something was wrong. They lived near a clinic in case something like this would ever happen. Therefore they took her to the clinic to see what was going on. The doctor had told the parents her brain wasn’t developed correctly. There was an option to fix the issue, but the surgery would be costly. Therefore, they were forced to live with it. After her parents had left, they weren’t very worried about Robin, for her seizures didn’t happen as often as they used to.
