An occasion when someone would have told me I’m logical is when I play soccer. In the game there are common rules that everyone knows. One of the rules is the offsides rule, which states that the player of the opposing team must stand slightly beside or behind one of the defenders or else the side referees will call offside every time. This applies to me, since I played in a youth team and every time they would pass me the ball I would be called on for being offside, and the coach would keep on telling me to get behind the last player because it’s the most common rule, but the easiest to break.
An occasion when someone has told me “that is not logical at all” is when I had a debate in my AP Language class. We had a debate that revolved around
abortion, and our team did not prepare as well as we should have. I was the questioner, and I panicked because this person was good at debates so I said “would you abort your baby if you got attacked.” It did not make sense, and the opposing’s team constructive made sure that of it by saying that it is not logical to say something like that. The difference between the two situations is in one situation it was common sense, so when it is logical you should be able to determine what to do by experience and by everything that happens around you. When something is not logical at all it means that it does not make sense and one should rethink what they said. The criteria that should be applied when determining whether something is logical or not, is determined by the culture, and your surroundings. Something that one person finds logical can seem illogical for someone else, so it varies.
Baron’s first example of logical explanation is based on privacy. He states“we’re giving up our privacy in ways that writers never did before” (Baron 714). Baron states this because privacy on the internet is difficult to obtain as websites, businesses and social media are trying to learn more about you. Logically, it is impossible to remain private on the internet today, “we’re giving up our privacy” every time we post anything or give our information away. So with this powerful tool we must use it appropriately and be safe in ways that we use it in order to protect ourselves and everyone else who uses it, it's the only logical choice. Baron then gives another example of logic as he states "every new communication technology has the capacity to expand the set of who gets to write and talk, and who gets to publish and be heard" (707). In this part of his article, Dennis Baron explains the logical benefits the internet technology has given its users, such as the ability to get “published” by “writing and talking”. This technology allows anyone who owns a computer the opportunity to create writing pieces for the world to enjoy. Overall, from a logical standpoint, Baron believes writing should not be hindered just because of an increase in writing, but embraced as it allows for creative thinking with endless possibilities that anyone can
The first application of logic found in the movie was in the first scene with the use of coconuts. They argued about how King Arthur had coconuts here in a moderate climate while coconuts only grow in tropical climates. King Arthur’s explanation for this was that a swallow brought it back when migrating. The peasant said that is impossible because a little bird cannot carry a coconut while it migrates. Hence with no other possibilities the peasant had concluded that it is impossible to have a coconut in England, which had been brought back, from a tropical area from a small migrating bird. This is a perfect example of how the movie breaks down logic and uses the settings environmental attributes and resources.
Logos, the appeal to logic is a way of persuading a group with reason. After 9/11, many people were constantly worried that there might be another terrorist attack against the United States. Many people thought
The point is valid and their reasoning is sound, but it does not prove that

The adult soccer goal is 24 feet long by 8 feet high, and the penalty shot, which is the shot I will be using in order to keep a constant spot, is 12 yards away from the back of the goal. The independent factors of the experiment are the different angles of the shot. Dependent factors would be the number of goals scored. The controls of the experiment are the size of the goal, soccer ball type, soccer ball size and weight, temp in the gym, kicking surface, and the method of measurement. Variables that will affect the experiment are force, speed, velocity, and most importantly, experience.
Appealing to logic is to be able to relate to the thoughts of the audience in other words think the same way as them to then later get them to think the same way as you. Being able to appeal to logic can be challenging as every single person thinks differently about certain situations so being able to relate would be more than difficult. In paragraph eight he uses logic when he says the following “ I bet, some people in this room have refinanced their homes or their business loans just in the last year….. And in the last ten months this economy has produced more jobs in the private sector in the previous four years”. ( Bill Clinton, November 13, 1993).
Logic affects our lives everyday. We use it both subconsciously and consciously to make decisions which can be as important as our careers, or as insignificant as what to eat for lunch. Logic can also be used in other ways. Ironically, others’ bad logic can result in us learning something just as much as we learn from our own bad decisions. This is shown in Monty Python’s Quest for the Holy Grail.
The dictionary term and understanding for the word ‘logic’ is “of sound thinking and proof by reasoning” (Merriam-Webster, 2009). Logic is the examination of the methods and doctrine used to determine ‘correct’ from ‘incorrect’ and is used in the structure of an argument. Allied to critical thinking, logic has a place and holds a relationship that reflects the thought process yet; critical thinking has a more diverse standard of questioning relative to developing both intellectual and emotional queries that can better evaluate reason.
are often in favor of throwing logic out the window. In many ways, this question
I have always considered myself a well-rounded and logical thinker; that is until I started the class Humanities 101 – Critical Reasoning. Since I was young, I have always attempted to use truth and facts in arguments that I have been involved in. I was a successful arguer, or what I thought was a successful arguer. On numerous occasions, I have reasoned my case well enough for my counterpart to turn their viewpoint around and agree with me. However, I now see that I used flawed logic during many of these arguments. While I was not completely egocentric in my rationale, I used many nonegocentric attributes to further my cases. For example, using the egocentric thinking flowchart, I would try to protect myself whenever I could and fight for my point of view. This would sometimes appear to come across as inflexible in my thinking; however, I did not feel I was getting all the relevant information to diverge from my original stance. With that, if my flawed logic were highlighted with reasonable justification, I would sway my position, if it made logical sense to me. After taking the course, I am now aware of what logical fallacies I was using and how egocentric my rational was.
Soccer is a sport that’s very challenging and during the course of this semester I’ve found physics can also be described as challenging. As far as I was concerned soccer and physics were both challenging and that was all they had in common, consequently upon researching them both this semester I found that I was wrong. For me this was nothing new because I’ve found that physics isn’t a subject that can be skimmed, but rather it has to be studied to the finest detail. Those small details if missed can make all your efforts worthless. Or on the positive side understanding those details can make your efforts worth it in the end. And in soccer if you understand the physics, which to most players would be considered as the small details, it pays off in the end. So really how does physics come into play with soccer?
It is very often that people draw their own conclusions to things they do not fully understand in order to filter what
Just imagine, a kid goes to school, and everyone around him starts to pick on him. He runs to the bathroom, and breaks down crying. Someone sees him and calls the counselor, a very nice person, who runs to the boy and walks with him to the office. The counselor asks him questions like what happened? How is life at home? What do you want to be when you grow up? He answers every question with complete confidence, proving that he can fulfill them. One person in our society who is perseverent is Logic. He went through hard times as a kid, with his family, and society- it was complete pandemonium for him- but he worked hard and overcame those challenges to be the successful person he is today. Since Logic not only overcame his family but also became
For example, it is often found that those who believe they do not have free will act more immoral and unethical when compared to those who are convinced that they do have free will. The question then should be, does the very fact that one believing they have free will influence if they do or not? The effect that either belief has should not, and does not hold any weight when determining if humans have free will or not. Whether one acts more moral, or more immoral in either direction does not negate the claim. This is clearly logically incoherent because again, the effect that something has on the world does not change the inherent nature of a said
