Day to Remember

On September 11, 2001, America was forever changed. On this day, America faced the biggest terrorist attack that had ever been carried out; thousands of people lost their lives that day. Throughout the sadness and mourning of this terrible event, George Bush addressed the nation with one of the most memorable speeches. When President Bush addressed the nation, he stated that America is strong and they could try to bring us down, but we will not be broken.This speech gave hope to many Americans and helped them remember to stay strong. This day will be forever remembered for all the souls that lost their lives and the brave people who threatened their own life to save others.

Logos, the appeal to logic is a way of persuading a group with reason. After 9/11, many people were constantly worried that there might be another terrorist attack against the United States. Many people thought

America wasn’t the safest country anymore. After this tragic event, Americans needed somebody to persuade them that the United States was still a safe place to life. The country needed somebody to reinsure Americans that we were still a great country. President Bush persuaded listeners by stating how people were working around the clock trying to help find survivors and the injured. “Our first priority is to get help to those who have been injured, and to take every precaution to protect our citizens at home and around the world from further attacks.” (George Bush) President Bush stated this in his address to the nation. He wanted Americans to know that there would not be another attack on U.S. soil. He wanted to list off reasons why America was still great after the attack. For many Americans they needed to hear all the good deeds people were doing after the attack. He persuaded other people to go out and help in anyway that they could. President Bush helped give hope to people and showed that even in the face of danger, Americans will always stand by each other.

Ethos is an appeal to ethics and convincing somebody of the character or credibility of the persuader. The terrorist group that attacked us, didn’t believe in the way we run our society. In President Bush's speech, he showed many signs of ethos. In the speech, he said “ I implemented our government's emergency response plans.” (George Bush) He wanted Americans to know that they could trust what he was telling them. He wanted to show them that everything he was saying was true. After such a tragic event, it was hard for many people to trust our government. President Bush had to do his best at convincing people to trust the government. When he gave this speech, he showed that he could be trusted and that he’s feeling the same pain as the rest of America.

Pathos means the appeal to emotion and convincing people by creating an emotional response.

This was a very emotional event that occurred. Many people lost loved ones they cared about in the terrorist attack. For many Americans knowing that terrorist groups could attack U.S. soil scared a lot of people. Before, President Bush first addressed the nation on this terrible event many people had lost hope. When writing his speech, it was easy for him to relate to what happened. President Bush didn’t have to create an emotional response; he was already feeling the pain and was speaking from his heart during his speech.When President Bush gave his speech to the nation, it helped people realize that Americans are still strong and we will continue to fight for our country. He stated in his speech “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America.” (George Bush) By President Bush stating this in his speech it showed that they can try to scare us, but they can’t change the way we do things in

America.

When President Bush first addressed the nation after the tragic event, most Americans had lost hope and were frightened. Before addressing the nation with his speech the first thing he wanted to do was make sure Americans knew that we are still a strong nation. President Bush wanted Americans and the terrorist know that we wouldn’t let these acts of terrorism tear our country apart. This speech was very successful in making Americans feel safe and helped them know that America is still great. During this time of heartbreak, President Bush stood up and let Americans know that everything was going to be alright. This day will be forever remembered for all the souls that lost their lives and the brave people who threatened their own life to save others.
