Just imagine, a kid goes to school, and everyone around him starts to pick on him. He runs to the bathroom, and breaks down crying. Someone sees him and calls the counselor, a very nice person, who runs to the boy and walks with him to the office. The counselor asks him questions like what happened? How is life at home? What do you want to be when you grow up? He answers every question with complete confidence, proving that he can fulfill them. One person in our society who is perseverent is Logic. He went through hard times as a kid, with his family, and society- it was complete pandemonium for him- but he worked hard and overcame those challenges to be the successful person he is today. Since Logic not only overcame his family but also became …show more content…
"I come from low-income housing, welfare, food stamps. My mother inflicted all types of mental anguish on me. She was racist, even though she had kids by all black men. She stayed in the house all day, popped pills and drank. I haven't talked to her since I was 21" (Gale). Nowadays, Logic is living lavishly with tons of affluence, considering the fact of what he went through growing up. He persevered through the hardships, but he didn’t do it alone. He had music, a fundamental factor that helped him get through his childhood. "It's almost like the instrumentals are a therapist. I get to be honest, I get to talk about who I am, where I come from. It's so somebody in my situation can understand it's not as bleak as it seems.” After rising above the hardships, he used his love for music to create a living for himself and he persevered to get to where he is …show more content…
He had a chaotic childhood, but he pushed himself to get through it and become successful. “Growing up, he witnessed his brothers selling drugs, his father buying those drugs, his alcoholic mother and sisters getting beaten up by men. However, even at that age, he tried to see the positivity of the situation and made those experiences a lesson as to what not to do with his own life” (“Logic Biography”). Anyone who grew up in a life like that would most likely follow the same path as the others, resulting in a horrible lifestyle, but Logic was one of the people who saw right through everything, which has earned him the life he always dreamed about. In a way, all of the bad things Logic’s family did actually helped him push through it. If they didn’t show him any of the things he has seen, then he would never know about it, and he would get into it, and accept it rather than push it
Baron’s first example of logical explanation is based on privacy. He states“we’re giving up our privacy in ways that writers never did before” (Baron 714). Baron states this because privacy on the internet is difficult to obtain as websites, businesses and social media are trying to learn more about you. Logically, it is impossible to remain private on the internet today, “we’re giving up our privacy” every time we post anything or give our information away. So with this powerful tool we must use it appropriately and be safe in ways that we use it in order to protect ourselves and everyone else who uses it, it's the only logical choice. Baron then gives another example of logic as he states "every new communication technology has the capacity to expand the set of who gets to write and talk, and who gets to publish and be heard" (707). In this part of his article, Dennis Baron explains the logical benefits the internet technology has given its users, such as the ability to get “published” by “writing and talking”. This technology allows anyone who owns a computer the opportunity to create writing pieces for the world to enjoy. Overall, from a logical standpoint, Baron believes writing should not be hindered just because of an increase in writing, but embraced as it allows for creative thinking with endless possibilities that anyone can
Music is something that allows people to express feelings and emotions that can’t be easily said out loud. Sonny in James Baldwin’s “SB” turns to music as a temporary getaway from his family conflicts and drug addiction. He said “it's the only thing I want to do” for the rest of his life, and it’s the only positive thing in his life (Baldwin 32). Though his brother sees jazz as a connection to Sonny’s drugs and detrimental to his life, Sonny
...he dream of just playing music was something that inspired them to stay out the streets and to see what is important in life. Music was a way they survived, it saved their life. The music told their story in they way they wanted it to be told. Dreams are also something lavishing, they are not always about being rich and famous, but its about wanting to do something you are truly passionate about and knowing when you wake up you are happy with the decision you are making. It doesn’t matter if someone understands why you decided to do that or not.
He comes to this conclusion through his un-satisfaction with the world we currently live in. Singer takes a strong awareness towards the impoverished and proclaims that that should not be the case when there are people living
Right away Macklemore establishes his credibility and knowledge, ethos, by stating, "When I was in the third grade I thought that I was gay, 'Cause I could draw, my uncle was, and I kept my room straight" (Haggerty, Lewis, Lambert, 2102). With such a forceful statement, he shows that he can relate to this issue, which gives him the credibility that people look for in such an important topic. By speaking of personal experience, this gives the audience a closer look into his life and may feel a connection that many people might need to relate and understand the lyrics or topic of the song. With the song beginning with an anecdote about Macklemore as a third grader fearing he was gay brings a great sense of the ethos appeal. This directly illustrates society’s corruption of an innocent child’s mind with the fear of being gay and believing that being gay would be a fault. This opening anecdot...
It has been discussed that the more intellectually advanced a person is, the more likely they are to be unhappy or clinically depressed and seek solace in heavy metal or another branch of rock music (Unhappy). For a product, many highly, intelligent people, whose social development progresses much slower than that of most people, have trouble coping with the stress of life that present themselves to everyone. This inevitably induces these individuals to seek refuge in music situations where knowledge and skills support their experience. They go through the tough times alone because adults tend to believe that the intelligent group of children can deal with anything because they are intellectually superior. Adults don't understand that they need assistance. Ernest Hemingway, author and journalist, is an example of this (Unhappy). He took his own life in 1961; he knew of both intelligence and of unh...
Many people show perseverance, including me. I showed perseverance when I failed a quiz and I knew to get my grade up I had to work harder and study more. I knew if my parents found out that I failed a quiz they would yell at me and would be disappointed on me for getting a bad grade on a quiz because I didn’t study. This factor contributes me to work harder, I learned that I need to work harder to succeed, like Salva, how he showed perseverance by looking for his family.
However, throughout the story the narrator’s thoughts on the music begin to shift to a more positive view. As Sonny explains the ways of coping to the narrator, the narrator begins to understand why Sonny needs music in his life and during Sonny’s performance fully understands the meaning of music in Sonny and his life. The narrator has flashbacks of his life and the feelings that were associated with those events while he listens to Sonny’s Blues and becomes aware of the struggle going on on the stage. In this event, the narrator turns from a negative view on music to an absolute positive view on the importance of music in people’s lives.
An occasion when someone would have told me I’m logical is when I play soccer. In the game there are common rules that everyone knows. One of the rules is the offsides rule, which states that the player of the opposing team must stand slightly beside or behind one of the defenders or else the side referees will call offside every time. This applies to me, since I played in a youth team and every time they would pass me the ball I would be called on for being offside, and the coach would keep on telling me to get behind the last player because it’s the most common rule, but the easiest to break.
Lewis Carroll was a professor of logic, writing among his well known works of fiction, treatises on the subject of logic and even a textbook, Symbolic Logic. “It is the function of logic to classify and formulate fallacious forms of argument as well as valid ones.” (Burks 367) So is it some of the functions of Carroll’s tales of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Presenting different puzzles, riddles, or what appears to be on the surface nonsense, Carroll in these books present many questions of logic and indirectly their solutions, challenging the ability of the reader to believe what has been presented. All his nonsensical puzzles can be either proved or disproved using some form of logic. “Not only is it not nonsense… it also contains, by implication, a great deal of excellent sense.” (Heath 51)
these characters show that logic clearly has a place in life but if a life is only lived by logical
Apart from its classic reputation and good sound, the first one being it talks about God and John Lennon’s beliefs, which relates well to our class. I interpreted some moral decision-making as he chose and expressed his theories. While expressing his own beliefs, he was not being prejudiced, racist or discriminatory against any of the concepts he mentioned. He chose to form his values and he cherished his choices before he acted on it when he sang this song. I developed a sense that his values changed and he wanted to express that alteration. As mentioned, he wrote this after the Beatles broke up, he probably could not handle the struggle therefore he communicated it in the way that he knew, music. After reading the lyrics, I concluded that John Lennon could have potentially been an amoral person. He probably did not contemplate moral standards when he wrote this song and he most likely did not consider how it would cause other people to feel. Both of which are qualities of an amoral person. Therefore, I chose this song because I found that I could relate it to several concepts that we have learned so far in this course. Additionally, it encourages people to stand up for themselves and express themselves, which is an exceptional message for us as
I believe that perseverance can help one overcome any challenge. After all, many challenges humanity have faced were overcome through perseverance, such as World War I and World War II, The Great Depression, and a much more recent event, Hurricane Harvey. In this essay I will be presenting my personal experiences of perseverance from earlier this year, roughly six or seven months ago. It was during this time that I began to understand how effective it was in driving someone towards a certain goal.
Well known musicians have an extreme potential to make an impact on people, some for the better and some for the worse. We turn our music on when we are in the car and zone out while we are driving, in the shower just so we have something enjoyable to jam out to, or just to relieve some stress and pass time. Depending on the genre of the preferred music it can have different impacts. A high percentage of people don't appreciate rap music and its contents because a great amount of its subject is based upon getting “bitches and money”. Or selling “drugs to hoes," thus making it offensive, unenjoyable and fairly disgusting to many. Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, also known as Logic chooses to rap about topics that make a genuine, eye opening impact
My view on logic is a way of thinking and a process, like how a computer interprets data imputed, but this may have its downfalls. Logical thinking can open you mind to a world of thoughts you normally would not think of like day dreaming, but if your mind wanders to grim topics, you can discover hidden horrors that you may have not seen. For example, in history you may talk about historic battles and other events in the past like the American Civil War. If you think about the losses over both sides of the war, and it is estimated that almost three fourths of a million people died, and the population before the war in 1860 was around thirty one million. Now that may be a small change but when thirty percent of males in the south and ten percent from the north are now dead or missing in action, that can take a toll on the infrastructure of a society, especially during this time period. With the death total being as high as it was, that’s not including the wounded and amputees, which affected one in thirteen solders that returned from the war unable to fully work to their potential. The concept of logic is required in this day and age in order to get statistics like this, although the South’s death toll may look bad in a percent, they
