Food is a universal need similar to writing. Writing is one of the best means of communication and without it we would not thrive as a society. As with food, everyone needs it to be able to flourish. Writing in any field is crucial for communication especially in nutrition because dietitians are dealing with people on a daily basis. Writing in various styles encompasses most of what dietitians do for a living. The minimum degree for employment is a Bachelor’s degree, however recipients of a Master’s degree tend to go further and enjoy greater success. A career in Nutrition can be very versatile, because of its broadness. The kinds of writing that are required continue to diversify. After conducting an open-ended survey of six Nutrition majors, which comprised of three undergraduate and graduate students, responses indicated that most of the answers varied from person to person. Although, there were some answers that correlated like graduate students being more focused on quantitative analysis and the interpretation of data, including reports and charting, undergraduate students writing style are more centered on research papers. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, dietitians are experts in nutrition, healthy eating, and advising people on a balanced diet (“Dietitians and Nutritionists”). Even though none of the subjects have become registered dietitians yet, the graduate students are the closest. They are more prepared and have more exposure in the field through previously being an undergraduate. Therefore, it has helped them to formulate more detail-orientated answers. Even though the responses were anonymous, for the entire survey it was clear which questions were answered by the graduate students. For example, one graduat... ... middle of paper ... ...th. Depending on how far the person wants to go into the career will ultimately guide how much writing they will see in the future. In nutrition, research papers will be a dominate writing style throughout the entire career, but mostly in undergraduate school. While in graduate school and further in the career, students will be focused on reports and charting information. Depending on if the person likes qualitative or quantitative will also help them decide which area to seek. Nutrition students should experiment with different writing styles in order to find their preferred one and look for the area in dietetics that the writing style dominates in. Nutritionism and Today’s Diet Nutritionism is the ideology that the nutritional value of a food is the sum of all its individual nutrients, vitamins, and other components. In the book, “In Defense of Food” by Michael Pollan, he critiques scientists and government recommendations about their nutritional advice. Pollan presents a strong case pointing out the many flaws and problems that have risen over the years of following scientific studies and government related warnings on the proper amount of nutrients needed for a healthy diet. Pollan’s main point is introducing science into our food system has had more of a negative impact than a positive one, we should go back to eating more of a traditional diet. I believe food science has given us
...ine and the sample lab report that my instructor gave me led me to conclude that science classes view writing as more of a tool for education than a tool for creativity. Since my Biology Lab instructor is representative of the science based discipline, then I can comfortably indicate that this discipline views writing as logos based, professional, structured, and with purpose, all in order to educate the masses. Writing has different views in each respective discipline, which shows diversity in each discipline since they may use it differently, such as how science based courses use writing to teach the reader about the experiment and the results whereas in a history based course they may use it to research a point in history and present their findings. Knowing this, I believe that no matter what discipline you write for, there will always be a tie back to education.

Since 1916, the United States Department of Agriculture (the government agency responsible for all U.S. policy regarding agriculture, food, and farming) has revised their recommendations several times. Unfortunately, money talks and the USDA’s recommendations are based on outdated science and are influenced by people with business interest. Even so, its recommendations are considered almost “holy” by physicians, nutritionists, and dieters, but in reality, they are the root cause of the problem. A single visit to our local public school cafeteria and it will become clear that they do not have the best interests of the children at heart. What they are feeding our innocent children is preposterous. Doctors, the people we trust and expect to be “the experts”, do not know much about the subject of nutrition. A vast majority of medical schools in the U.S. require just 25-30 hours or less of nutrition training, and some do not require at all. So doctors must rely on the ...
It is day one of your weight lifting program and you are ready to start your body transformation. It is the best workout out there, but with all of this searching for a workout plan, do you have a solid nutrition plan? Nutrition is not only 90% of the battle when it comes to improving all the aspects of health and fitness. It can be the ultimate reason why you may not be seeing any results. Trust me, when I say that iit has taken me years to figure out what foods, how much to eat, and how often to eat. What makes this challenging is everybody is different. What may work for you may not work for me. Some people can get away with eating crap and not gain an ounce but with me if I have a piece of cake, I will gain 5 lbs. I am a creature
writing” by R. Ramsey, the ability to write competently is a requirement for success in any field.
One must remember that writing style is not something that just happens, but rather something that is developed. With the help of guides like Elements of Style, or books like Style Toward Clarity and Grace, one can begin to develop one.
I am inspired to explore the field of dietetics which is very broad and dietitians perform a variety of functions in their jobs. As a dietitian, I can work in a wide variety of positions such as a foodservice manager in commercial or institutional, a community nutritionist, such as the WIC and Headstart, a consultant to major food corporations such as Kelloggs and Kraft or go into sales. I am very interested in working in a position where I can help people develop habits to improve their health. I may eventually go on to graduate school to advance my knowledge of dietetics.
...arable interaction between nutrition and exercise, and I appreciate a program that challenges students to see how different areas of health intersect and connect. In addition to this solid foundation of public health knowledge, George Washington’s one-on-one mentorship opportunities and customizable field and research experiences allows students to develop the skills necessary to succeed in their specific area of interest. The university’s location also provides access to a wide range of organizations, agencies, and policymakers, and the chance to work with these groups would give me unparalleled insight into public health policy. George Washington’s public health program strives to fully prepare students for successful careers in public health, and I hope to use the knowledge and experience from the program to reduce the impact of eating disorders on public health.
According to healthpromotion.ie healthy eating is about having a balance diet that contains all different types of foods from each food group. When eating the right amounts of food from each food group you get all the nutrients you need to stay healthy and have a good healthy weight. There is six main food groups that are recommended to have daily:
People eat food every day without thinking twice about it, because it is a necessity for us to live. How often do you think about what is in the foods that you eat? How many calories does it have? Are there any vitamins and minerals in it? Is it high in fat? For most of us and especially college students who live a busy life on the go, the answer to that question is probably no. Since becoming a recent graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania Academy of Culinary Arts, I have been more interested in food and what people are eating. Also since more young Americans are becoming obese I want to find out what they are eating and where. Going to college and seeing how students have poor eating habits I want to find out why they are eating this way. Is it because they are away from home for the first time? Or is it because that is the only food that is available for them? I also want to find out if students would eat healthier if it was provided for them? My hypothesis is that students eat unhealthy because it is more convenient for them. There is usually no time to cook a homemade meal and most college students are always in a hurry so it is easier to pick up takeout. Also most college students don’t know how to cook. I also believe that most college students don’t care if the food is unhealthy for them, as long as it tastes good. Hopefully, in the following pages I will uncover the wide world of college eating.
To survive in life we need to consume food whether it is for nutritional value or for the pure enjoyment of its savory taste. Individuals, not the government, have the right to choose what and when to eat; but good nutrition is important to maintain health and live a long and happy life. People need to make choices everyday about what they put into their bodies. Without proper nutrition, our bodies may not be able to function correctly. Most adults know what is good and bad for the body. We all know that diets rich in fruits and vegetables fuel the body in a healthy way and that protein gives us energy. Although we know what food is best for our bodies, each individual has a personal choice of what they put into their bodies and that should not be dictated by the government, even though
This report aims to describe the role and responsibility of public health dieticians/nutritionists and how they contribute to a more integrated health system. A current health problem for public dieticians/nutritionists in New Zealand (NZ) is an increase in obesity and this report will also discuss this further.

People is always asking: “Why is important to have a balanced diet? Why is necessary to have a balanced diet on a daily basis? And why do professionals tend to recommend a balanced diet?” The human being has essential needs to its existence: breathing, feeding, and keeping the body in constant movement. The majority of the people are aware of this, but they do not have a balance among these things and even more important they do not eat the adequate food to keep their body healthy. Food is one of the most important factors because it gives the energy the body needs daily. In other words, few words food is the fuel that provides glucose, which is carried to each cell of the body through the bloodstream. This process is extremely important and this is influenced by the type of food that each person consumes. A balanced diet is important for human beings, and makes reference to a good nutrition with regard to the food they eat; which contains macro nutrients that are carbohydrates, fats, and proteins; these provide energy and basic materials that the body uses to grow and stay healthy.
