In a health care profession, people look up to those providing care and need to establish a trusting relationship with them. Since nurses are at the forefront of care in a hospital, it is crucial for nurses to show and have integrity in the hospital setting. As nurses, we are the person that is in constant interaction with the patient and the last line before administering or doing any care to the patient. Nurses develop integrity in many ways, through given situations and the need to stand up for what is right for the patient. The core value of integrity can be used in the clinical setting now as sophomore students and throughout our time as a nurse. The core concept of integrity is holding true to what is right for the patient and providing the most beneficial care to the patient. I think that doing the right thing and what is right for the patient while I’m in practice. I also will build on the mistakes that occur, and acknowledge that I made a mistake. From the mistake, I will learn on ways I can improve and not make the same mistake again. By keeping true to my word and being trustful to the patient and people around me, I will continue to grow in my integrity. Integrity is something that is instilled in us from our past experiences of life and how we were raised. Everyone will have different values and beliefs, but if they hold true to them, they are displaying integrity. Professional integrity in nursing is crucial to the practice. Nurses must establish and hold onto their values as well as respect the values of the patient and know how to balance it all to provide the best possible care.
