People tend to think that all nurses do is give shots and change bed pans for a living however, this is a very incorrect assumption. Societies negative thoughts give the career of nursing a bad reputation in the eyes of any potential people interested in a healthcare career. There are many misconceptions when it comes to nursing and its hard to know these without working in a hospital. I am here to tell you that as a nurse you will not be “changing bedpans” for the rest of your life. Nursing is a career that takes dedication to your patients and their family until they’re needs are completed. It is a career of continuous education and involves teamwork amongst other healthcare professionals. A career in nursing is not always so easy but, in the end, it pays off to see your patient and family happy and walking out those hospital doors.
People tend to believe that just because you are a nurse you have to work in a hospital setting. This is not the case at all, there are so many branches of nursing and not all work in the hospital or even one on one with patients. As a nurse you can choose to work anywhere and you get to pick your hours and days you work. The best way of knowing is to experience it yourself and know how you and your body will handle itself in those circumstances. Everyone believes if you are a nurse you have to be able to handle seeing lots of blood, stool, vomit and other bodily fluids.
