Rutgers University is a cultural diversed university in an urban area. The university has three campuses, Newark, New Brunswick and Camden. The curriculum design of the program in the field of nursing can lead to BSN, Masters, Post Masters, and Doctoral degree. The program-structured length is a four-year program for the undergraduate BSN. The studies are divided into sections that will coincide with the level of the nursing student program once accepted and enrolled. The student must also achieve a C or better in order for the credits to be applied to the prerequisites courses. The model of overall organization is considered articulated into the other programs. The masters, postmasters, doctoral program curriculum require courses that are in the undergraduate program. The generic baccalaureate program credits must total 126. The fall and spring secessions carry approximately 16 credits each semester. The curriculum for each semester is combined with electives and nursing courses. The first year student courses are academically filled with electives and are introduced to human studies. The schedule is comprised of English, humanities, cultural studies and anatomy & physiology totaling approximately 33 credits the first year. During the second year the students course load increases with the intense focused on chemistry/biology and the six credits of nursing, the total sophomore credits in this semester is 32. The third year student will be introduced to the nursing aspect of the plan of studies. The student will have hands on experience with patient care. After completing the junior year, the student will receive 31 credits with all centered around nursing. The fourth year of the students academically studies are combining all courses clinical experiences and studies together. The final 30 credits will be applied to the balance and the total requirements of credits will be met of 126 credit, in the four levels of the nursing

There is equality in the understanding of the mission statements. In the healthcare field the terminology focuses on the practice of the nurses. The goals of the general and nursing student gives set examples of educate, research, service and practice. The leadership reputation of a nurse is taught in a student centered learning atmosphere. The information provides research, globally and culturally that is beneficial to neighbor in aspects of healthcare. The service that the nursing student will foster care in the community will receive the benefit of a student whom has had the innovation curriculum experience. The practice of care given on all levels across the nation will receive quality healthcare from a Rutgers student. The curriculum does reflect the goals of the university; the school is not only set to teach the student, they encourage their students to prosper. The curriculum prepares the student to become leaders of the community and of the nation. I arrived at this conclusion of the mission and goals of Rutgers University by reflection, researching the statements made. A school mission statement and making the choice to attend a university will become a part of the individual. The pride and honor of the expressions of an Alumnus is an overall view of the individual being.
The national shortage of Registered Nurses (RNs) has helped generate formidable interest in the nursing profession among people entering the workforce and those pursuing a career change. According to a report issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service in 2002, the national population is continuing to grow and age and medical services continue to advance, so the need for nurses will continue to increase. They report from 2000 to 2020 the predicted shortage of nurses is expected to grow to 29 percent, compared to a 6 percent shortage in 2000. With the projected supply, demand, and shortage of registered nurses and nursing salaries ever-increasing, the nursing profession can offer countless opportunities. But first one must determine which educational path to pursue, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in nursing (ADN). Most will initially be educated at the associate degree level, even though the American Organization of Nursing Executives (AONE) has recommended a baccalaureate level as a minimal for entry-level nurses. With the expanding number of RN to BSN programs available there is always the option to further one’s education at a later date. The benefits for acquiring a BSN over an ADN include a better knowledge for evidence-based practice, an increased advantage for promotion, and the necessary gateway for higher education.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs strive to ready student nurses for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) that tests not only pure knowledge, but the reasoning and application of that knowledge. These programs provide student nurses with the necessary knowledge base and ability to apply knowledge in practice; especially since the introduction of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) has been integrated into didactics. EBP, along with hours of clinical placement, benefit student nurses by arming them with the clinical judgment skills called for in the workplace. However, if student nurses accrue more focused clinical hours in their areas of specialty, they will be better prepared for the situations they will face in their careers for which simulation labs or nonspecific clinical settings fail to adequately prepare them. With more hours spent in specialty areas, student nurses will be able to establish higher degrees of mental preparedness and hands on experience as well as understanding of the difficulties and demands of working as a nurse in a specific field as opposed to shifting between various focuses of nursing.

It has been over one year since I have started the accelerated nursing program at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. When I first started the program in fall 2014, I have no idea what nursing was like. Although I had my bachelor from another institution, everything I learned was very different compared to the information I have learned in School of Nursing. Nursing school has slowly transformed me into a graduate professional nurse based on the professional development that I have completed along the way.

Nursing in today’s healthcare system is challenging because of rapid technological advance and changes in healthcare policies. In this essay I will be discussing the importance of understanding learning styles for student nurses. I will also be focusing on the learning cycle and learning style using the Honey and Mumford 80 questionnaire. I look into the details of how learning style helps students to understand the importance of recognising one’s learning style preference. I will also provide an understanding of learning and learning theories and discuss my own dominant learning style and how I aim to deal with my weaknesses to progress well in the nursing programme.

Because of the new health care reform, the BSN program will also aid in filling the gap from the influx of patients. The baccalaureate degrees and BSN program helps prepare students for the significant part they are going to play in reinforcing the new healthcare reform.
