The allure of online class tend to bring out the nontraditional students who major responsibilities that makes attending classes on campus a challenge. When learning online it’s great that you can study anytime and anywhere but at times it becomes an issue when people forget to check on their assignment. Participation online is mandatory, usually through discussions boards. Online however, lacks the interaction of student-teacher communication that is needed. A lot of different courses are offered over the internet that may not be available on campus. When you going to school on campus, there is a schedule to go by and nothing can really get in the way to distract you from studying. Being in a classroom listening to a teacher is much more interesting than sitting at home staring at a computer monitor, but not every teacher can make lessons interesting. Online classes, however, lack this interaction, requiring teachers to use forums, chats and other online discussion media to build community. While traditional classrooms let students gain support and personal relationships from teachers, online courses only offer electronic communication. Traditional classroom instructors can offer virtually every type of assessment, from written work to tests to oral examinations and presentations. However, online classes are more limited in the types of assignments students can complete. However, when a student takes an online class the student and professor are at a disadvantage of building an interpersonal relationship. For example, a professor is unable to read the nonverbal cues of a struggling student through a computer screen or is unable to tell if a student is experiencing a true emergency. Just as, a student is unable to read their professors nonverbal cues that a particular chapter or assignment is vital to passing the course. I have taken classes on campus and online classes for three semesters now and have learned that regardless of class format a student needs to be dedicated, structured, self-motivated and not afraid to ask questions. In the world of education, modern society and technology have revamped our ideas of what might be considered a traditional way of gaining education. Face-to-face courses and online courses are both similar and different in relation to the content of courses, student-professor and peer relationships, class participation/interaction and effective methods of both teaching and learning. Attending college is demanding for working and non- working students. The non-traditional student and the traditional student have many similarities as well as differences. To help understand both types of students; it will be beneficial to define them. Non-traditional or working students often find themselves juggling an array of responsibilities such as a full time job and a family while trying to obtain a college degree. Non- traditional students are typically an older crowd that has been absence from the collegiate world for a period of time.

There are also many conveniences and benefits to taking an online class over a traditional, face-to-face class. Many students benefit logistically, financially, and from the course structure itself. Online classes provide the student with more opportunities to be successful in their coursework. Online courses can be completed based on the student's own schedule, provide for faster and less nervous interactions with instructors, and in many cases, are more educationally beneficial setting alternatives to traditional, face-to-face classes. In fact, Sixty-seven percent of academic professionals evaluated online courses as equivalent to as or better than face-to-face courses (Lytle).
When students are deciding on where to go to college, they have the option of choosing between online classes and the traditional classroom classes. Today, some students are finding it much easier to maintain a job, family and start a college career, all by taking online classes. Although some students still prefer to stick with the traditional classroom classes, they still have the option to take online classes. Both online and the traditional classes will provide the educational requirements needed to obtain a college degree and opportunities in the work field. Although the online classes offer just as much as the traditional classes, they are completely different when it comes to teaching methods, course material and time.
I have tried to take classes online before to drop them from being disinterested. I believed that I needed to see the classroom, the teachers and working students to be engaged with the class but now I realize that I needed to hear the professor speak so that I could comprehend what he was saying and have a discussion where I could find a solution to any question I had. While you can have conversation through emails it does not have the same power as hearing the feedback and be able to have open conversation. I like to have heated debates with my professors and peers like a tennis game; each batting knowledge back and forth until we are exhausted. Another part of my preference for auditory learning is that I like to talk to myself to solve problems and work out things that I learn in class earlier to ensure that I understand it fully. Therefore I believe I learn best in the setting of a classroom with a teacher that inspires thought and creates an environment for healthy debates. I have learnt a lot from my father and from the amazing novels I have read, I have also learnt a lot from my life experiences which I believe has given me an upper hand in the
University students’ life is full of excitement and memorable experiences. They establish new relationships, meet new friends, and course instructors, engage in exiting social activities, and Stimulating intellectual discourses. However, they also face challenges which consequently lead to stress which impact on their psychological well being and academic performance. According to Angola and Ongori (2009), stress occurs when one is confronted with a situation which is perceived to be overwhelming.
A lot of different courses are offered over the internet. Some of these may be the right choice for certain students. One problem I see with this is that when the student has a question or does not understand something, they would have to research it instead of having a person to person interaction with the teacher. Also the teacher may sometimes offer examples that come from personal experiences. Computers cannot take the place of a human being.
