Non-fiction narrative When I was about 8-10, It was three days before christmas I was sitting in my room wondering how santa managed to get to every house in one night. I thought to myself “it’s not logically possible for Santa to travel to every house in one night he can’t even get in my house because we don't have a chimney in our house and I was always told that he entered through a chimney.” “Also how does he manage to carry over 6 billion in one night?” So I ask my Mom these questions because I can't answer them myself and my parents tell me that they will talk to santa to give us more candy” so I assume that they should know. So I ask and she tells me “he uses magic to do everything.” “Ok but how does he get into our house then?” “Well
“Why,” you ask, “position yourself only to be disappointed upon realizing that all you hold as true is in fact false?” I will tell you that I grew up believing in Santa Claus—the jolly, old, fat man who annually descended the chimney with his endless sack of treasures. I will tell you that I still believe that Santa Claus exists, despite being told otherwise by both parent and peer. I will tell you not only that Santa Claus exists, but that he exists in you and your family and your friends and every person who gives a little extra in any way thinkable.
Some people write for entertainment and some people write for fortune, but other people write to tell the world their story and enlighten us to life’s lessons. Literary fiction is created to do more than just merely entertain. It is created to tell a story, to take the reader from one mindset to another and bring about the reader’s understanding of the purpose. Literary fiction explores innate conflicts of the human condition through cosmic writing. Richard Wright chooses to use this kind of writing to reach the world. Wright grew up in a time where he was denied many privileges because of his color and he really made a point to express his feelings to us through his writing. His life, works and short story “A Man Who Was Almost a Man contribute directly to his literary style.
Stories are a big part of the human race. From conceptualizing the birth of our race to nagging our parents to tell bedtime stories, our life is nothing but a series of stories. It is in human nature to narrate significant incidents of our lives to others. Storytelling as a method has been progressively used by various companies as a tool to connect with their employees and customers. It helps to build a bridge of loyalty, longevity, mutual trust and understanding and connection. Storytelling helps to get that instant personal connect. Stories are significant because they are inherent to human experience. By stories we pass on our accumulated wisdom, beliefs and values to the future generations.
Fiction stories are those stories not true or factual and are created by the author. These stories are imagined by the author and narrated to the reader. The reader has the opportunity to add their own imagination to the story to make the reading even more enjoyable. Fiction relies on the imagination of the author and the imagination of the reader along with the elements of fiction. Fiction readings are in the form of realistic and non-realistic. When discussing these two types of fiction readings two stories come to mind. The realistic story that comes to mind is the story of “A & P” by John Updike. John Updike is “…considered one of the best of American writers of fiction and poetry” and his story of “A & P” proves to be an ideal example of fiction (V., and Zweig 370). The non-realistic story is “The Fox and the Grapes”, which is found in Aesop’s Fables. Both of these narratives contain elements of fiction easily identified and therefore entertaining to discuss. Characters and point of view are two of the elements of fiction found in these two short stories. Discussion of these two elements, expand on the knowledge of fiction stories through examples and definitions.
Nonfiction is seen everywhere and people see and read it everyday. Whether that be watching the morning news, or reading an article in the newspaper. Nonfiction contains concepts like rhetorical modes and appeals, a purpose, an audience, and a voice.
We have all had an event in our lives that feels like it will define you for the rest of you life. Early July in 100 degree heat made it a marvelous day for baseball. We’ve played in this heat since 10 A.M. and just finished playing our fifth straight game vs. Rollingstone. Now we just have to win two more games against our rivals the Byron Bears, and we would get to take home that shiny, gold trophy that has called our name since the moment we arrived. My life experience playing two high pressured games shows my nervousness in the first game vs Byron, in the second game vs Byron, and in the end of the game.
As a young adult, I’ve always been fascinated by Greek mythology, especially the idea of the three fates, which are beings that control the metaphorical thread of life of every mortal from birth to death. When I imagine how the thread of my life looks in the fates loom, I imagine a beautiful and rich tapestry of family, friends and achievements that weave together.
As a child, I witnessed my brother and sister leave school before they were 17, and then they tried to make a steady income off of narcotics. Now they both sit in cells. As I matured I noticed that it was apparent for me to just be part of the cycle. I never gained the support I felt I needed to overcome what would be the status quo for me, so as an adolescent I agreed to what I believed was the only path for me, one that follows the path of my siblings. As I grew older, becoming more independent, the feeling of regret hovered me every time I entered a classroom. The feeling that I could've done better, the feeling that I could amount to something more than what is expected of me. As I tuned my priorities to school, I began to find a pathway. I took a class in 9th grade titled
Drugs! Alchohol! These two things prove to be very dangerous to the human person. My older brother was once addicted to both, but with the help from my parents, he is now back on the right track. This was only possible because my parents took huge steps in helping him get to rehab. They were heroes to me and my family because they had been so caring, loving, and forgiving to my brother. There has been so many wonderful things I have learned from them. My parents saved my brother's life and showed me what true love and hope can accomplish.
There was a point in life where I would use the word loner to describe myself. However I've learned that enjoying being alone doesn't necessarily make me a loner.Like most people I wasn't born into an entirely functional family. Although some people, at least had a support system at home, I didn't. And although I was surrounded by people who had more than enough help and support, I continued to persevere, In all aspects of life. I was forced to face alone the cruelty of the world, including bullying, abuse and most anything you could imagine, All of which I have overcome. These various triumphs and successes have led me to the realization that I'm, in fact, not a loner. I am independent.
All my life ,I’ve always wanted to be someone in life who can actually make a difference to this world in a positive way. Ever since I was a little girl I pushed myself to always best I can be just . I lived in a town outside Los Angeles, California , it was called Van Nuys,California.The elementary school (Kittridge Elementary) I had went to was in a low income area, mainly spanish community had lived in the area I was living in at the time .I had a lot of friends (mainly mexicans) I focused a lot on being on time for school , staying on task in class, and finishing my homework. At such a young age I had felt such ambition and was doing very good for myself. At the age of 10 was when reality start to really hit me , even though I was very young I started to see things differently.
I remember when I was ten years old, and my dad used to tell me how attractive parrots were. But I argued with him that roosters were more beautiful than parrots because I had never seen a parrot before. I remember Dad when he brought me a parrot in a cage and said to me it was the one that he believed to be the most attractive bird in the world. I looked at him and turned around and stared at the parrot because I was amazed. Since that day I have become convinced that parrots have many qualities, which make them superior to roosters.
Sometimes I wish there is only one language in the world which all human speaks fluently, so that everyone in the world can express their own ideas clearly and can understand others thoroughly. If this was true, the world will certainly be a much better place. Because many wars probably could be avoided by a long and deep conversation between the leaders of the opposing countries. An interpreter might be able to translate what one is saying to another language, but without emotions and genuineness. Imagine if Obama speaks the same language as Xi Jinping, so they could show some “love” for each other. The United States of America and People’s Republic of China might not be at odds with each other.
The chaos from my teenage sister’s birthday party was deafening. Somehow through the noise, I registered that the phone was ringing. Jumping up, my sister answered it in hopes of hearing her boyfriend’s voice. A look of concern and confusion crossed her face as she handed me the phone. She mouthed the word "David" as I placed the receiver to my ear. Immediately I began fighting off a panic I could not yet explain. Dead. David. Crying and screaming assaulted my senses. "He's dead. He's dead," were all I could hear. I wondered briefly if this was someone’s idea of a cruel joke. But, within moments, the cold reality of this life changing nightmare set in.
