Wreck-it-Ralph is a prime example of how complicated the game world can be. Whether it’s fighting mutant bugs or an arcade character gone turbo, the game world is quite an interesting place. However, the world where people develop such games is quite more interesting, especially in the video game world. Video game industries have created many memorable characters such as Sonic, Mario and Link who have stood the test of time and still remain popular and fresh for each new generation. Sega, the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog has been a long time runner in the video game industry. Their rival, Nintendo, decided to team up with Sony in order to create a console that would rival Sega. However, after some difficulties arose the two companies decided …show more content…
One of the most notable games created for the console was none other than Super Mario Bros which gained a huge amount of popularity at the time. “The NES controller [consists of] a D-pad and two buttons on a base attached to the console by a wire” which gave it a very basic setup as compared to today’s standards (Cummings). Nintendo continued it’s uprising popularity with the release of the 16-bit Super Nintendo Entertainment System or SNES in 1990. This addition increased Nintendo’s competition against the Sega genesis and was quickly rising in the gaming industry (Wolf). However, due to Nintendo’s separation with Sony, Sony had developed a console of it’s own. In 1994, Sony had introduced its “new 32-bit system,” the Playstation (Wolf). As compared to the NES controller the Playstation controller “copied [some parts] from earlier 2D consoles [where there are] added digital shoulder buttons, and [an increase] of buttons up to 8 as well as the D-pad” (Cummings). Additionally, the Plastations was able to “create sophisticated 3-D geometric graphics” that was able to rival the 2-D quality of the NES and SNES. While the Nintendo first generation consoles were developed earlier than the Playstation, the Playstation was able to create its …show more content…
The second generation gaming consoles for Nintendo and Sony was a time for improvement and handhelds. Nintendo decided to continue the use of cartridges instead of following the popular trend of using CDs with its release of the Nintendo 64 in 1997 (Wolf). However, following in the footsteps of the Playstation, the new 64 had three-dimensional computation. Additionally, Nintendo had introduced their new handheld game the Nintendo DS in November 2004. Consequently, Sony was continuing to produce new consoles as well. “In 2000 Sony announced it was releasing the Playstation 2” (Wolf). Separating themselves from the CD format Sony had decided to release Playstation 2 games on DVD format. Furthermore, after the Nintendo’s release of the DS, the following month of December Sony released the Playstation Portable or PSP. The PSP was quite similar to the Nintendo DS as they were both handheld consoles. Additionally, both the PSP and the DS “support the IEEE 802.11b WLAN standard, allowing ad hoc networking between hand-helds” (Claypool). This allows for multiplayer connections without the use of chords or other means. In contrast to the similarities, the DS has a dual screen while the PSP only has one singular screen. While Nintendo and Sony continue to separate on their similar console styles, their handhelds show a much a similar style than their larger
...ware. From their powerful cores to their incredible game experiences, they more than just meet my needs for a console but I have to make a choice. The Xbox One has the better games of the two and has a faster processor exceeding the PS4’s by 1 GHz. It has a better camera, is more structurally stable than the Playstation 4 and runs marginally quieter. On the other hand the Playstation 4 has a slimmer design and had a stronger GPU but a slower CPU. It doesn’t feature the games that I want but most of my friends are buying it. I would like to own both consoles but would not have time to play both so I will have to make a decision. I have decided to get the Playstation 4 due to its greater versatility and because of the greater amount of Indie games. The main reason though is that most of my friends are getting this console. Although I hope to someday own both consoles.
During the 1990’s the video games were constantly changing. This decade saw tons of innovations in the gaming industry. The creation of 32-bit games and 3D games dominated the virtual world: Contra, Battletoads, Mortal Kombat, etc. Video game genres developed and branched out, creating some of the popular genres in video games today, such Role-playing games(RPGs), 3D platformers, first person shooters, etc. During this time, the industry was ruled by Nintendo and it’s President, Hiroshi Yamauchi, who ruled with an iron fist.
There are few things on the minds of gamers more then the current console wars between the PS4 and the Xbox One. This time, the field is nearly level on the hardware front and the services offered are very close. The devices are very similar but there are some obvious differences. Microsoft and Sony have different end games in mind and their products reflect those philosophic differences. It is in the fine details that the differences will emerge.
For the past 6 years Nintendo no longer became a strong participant in the video gaming industry. The only market they had left was the young teenager market. It designed its Gamecube so it would look attractive to children. They put their console out on the market for $199 which is about a hundred dollars less than it’s competitors. This gave Nintendo the opportunity to put them back on the map. Nintendo also offered games exclusive to Nintendo. Which means that no other company has the authorization to sell that game software under it’s name except for Nintendo. By combining the drop in price and the exclusive games Nintendo hopes to regain it’s customers as well ass win new ones.
In 1985, the Nintendo of America Company released a revolutionary video game system called the Nintendo Entertainment System or NES. The Nintendo Company who has already been in the video game industry such as laser gaming, electronic video

In the console-gaming world people know Sony and Nintendo. Microsoft may be the largest and richest software company in the world, but it’s unknown when it comes to console gaming. Microsoft is counting on the Xbox to change that perception. Gamers may not be willing to take a chance with the Microsoft Xbox, even if it is far superior to any console ever made. Nintendo Gamecube is nothing if charismatic. Nintendo’s new machine is half the size of any other console and looks like a toy with its brightly colored plastic shell and handle. It’s destined to be home of such popular games as Mario, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, and Kirby. Nintendo Gamecube seems mismatched as it goes up against the Microsoft Xbox and the Sony Playstation 2 (a multimedia mayhem that Sony says it’s supposed to be “The Future Of Entertainment”). All this makes you think; what makes Nintendo believe it can possibly go up against the ultra-sophisticated Xbox.

The case study highlighted that the new game Wii introduced by the company had the ability to attract individuals considered non-gamers or casual gamers. Video games, specifically home consoles, came to the US on October 18th 1985. The NES. Most games around that time were all bright and cheerful looking games such as Mario, Kirby, Legend Of Zelda, and Pokemon a few years later on the Gameboy. But as other game developers appeared, new types of games were made. The shooter genre and fighting genre of games came mostly on the Xbox and PS systems with a couple exceptions being on a Nintendo console(Doom, Goldeneye, Smash bros). Now shooter games

The Wii focused less on hardcore gaming and much more on family friendly fun games, as well as exercise games such as Wii Fit and motion control dance games. The Wii was a pioneer of motion controls, and by shaking the controller you can control games. The Wii came out around the same time as the PS3 and Xbox 360, both of which having HD graphics, but the Wii proved you do not need amazing graphics to have enjoyable
During the NES’s run several gaming icons were founded and upheld. Link from the Legend of Zelda, Samus from Metroid, and Mega Man from MegaMan were all invented during this time. After this point in gaming’s history the different eras of consoles would come to be known as the generations of consoles. The eras that have occurred up to this point are the first generation, also known as the golden age of arcades, the second generation, from the Atari 2600 to the crash of 1983, and the third generation, from the NES to the Sega
