They both hated each other and brought each other down. They hated each other, but yet worked together. They didn’t literally work together. They both figured things out that benefitted them both. Everything they did was a competition between them. They had it out for each other. Unlike Tesla, Edison only had some education. He was home-schooled and he taught himself. That is very different from Tesla.
Direct Current electricity comes from things such as batteries, modules, and generators. The polarity does not change. The positive pole always has a positive charge with respect to the negative pole. Since charges flow from a higher potential to a lower potential, the DC provides a constant, unidirectional flow. Alternating current electricity is produced from rotating generators. The current of it changes constantly and reverses direction each cycle.

In the 1880s, there was a war going on in the United States. Backstabbing, secrecy, and death were common. However, this war had no weapons. It was a dual between two geniuses. These two men are the fathers of modern technology. The War of Currents was a battle between the famous inventor Thomas Edison, and the mysterious genius Nikola Tesla. Tesla and Edison engaged in an epic competition to create the most efficient, cheap, usable form of electricity. Everyone knows who Thomas Edison was, but not many people know of Nikola Tesla. Tesla was an unappreciated mastermind who changed the world with his inventions, performed many strange experiments, and practically invented usable electricity.
Nikola Tesla was born on July 10,1856 into a Serbian family. He was born in the village of Smiljan, Croatia. He was the fourth of five children born to Milutin & Duka Tesla. Milutin, Nikola’s father was an Orthodox priest and a writer. His Mother, Duka had a talent for making home craft tools and mechanical appliances. His father wanted him to become a priest but he was more like his Mother and drawn to inventing and the sciences.
Edison hired Tesla almost immediately. Tesla became an engineer in his lab. Edison respected Tesla highly, but he did not share his views about AC power, as Edison was a strong supporter of DC power. Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison did not get along very well. It may have been due to the fact that they were the complete opposite from one another. Edison enjoyed the process of inventing things by hand in a trial and error way, as opposed to Tesla, who favored thinking through new ideas in his mind before acting upon them. Tesla described the type of person Edison was by stating, “If Thomas Edison had to find a needle in a haystack, he would examine each straw instead of finding a smarter way.” While Nikola was working for Edison, Edison told Tesla that he would pay a sum of $50,000 if Tesla presented him an enhanced model for his DC power dynamos. Tesla worked and experimented for months and presented a new design to Edison for his dynamos and requested the $50,000 amount promised. Edison responded with the quote, “Tesla, you don’t understand our American humor.” Tesla quit his job under Edison soon after that. It had only been one year since Tesla was hired by Edison

While at Graz Technical University, Tesla had seen a demonstration of a generator run as a direct-current (DC) motor. Direct current is electric current that flows in only one direction. During the demonstration, the brushes and the commutator of the motor sparked violently. The brushes are devices that conduct the current in a DC motor. The commutator continually reverses the current so that the motor continues to rotate in one direction. Tesla believed a motor without a commutator could be devised. In 1881, while walking in a park, Tesla suddenly got an idea for a simple way to produce such a device. In 1883, while on assignment for Continental Edison in Strasbourg, France, Tesla used his spare time to build his first polyphase (out-of-step) AC motor. In such a motor, coils are arranged so that when out-of-step alternating currents energize them, the resulting magnetic field rotates at a predetermined speed.
To understand how this motor works, we must understand the relationship between electricity, and magnetism, or simply put, electromagnetism. Direct electric current in a simple description: There are two requirements for current flow. The first is a source of electrical potential energy or EMF (electro motive force). The second is a conductor that provides a complete loop to carry the current. The reason a conductor will conduct is found at the atomic level.
A direct current is current, which electricity goes one way. The opposite current of direct current is alternating current. An alternating current is a current which electricity goes back and forth. When a direct current changes into an alternating current it is called a power inverter. One of the most used devices that have direct current is a battery. A battery is voltaic cell that has a positive (cathode) and negative (anode) terminal that converts chemical energy to electricity. A battery exerts electrical energy when the positive terminal (cathode) receives a negative charge (anode) and the negative terminal receives a positive charge. The electricity released is moved by conductors, like wires. A battery released direct current when the batter is connected to wires, the electrons start to move one way like a direct current. There are two kinds of batteries, a primary battery and a secondary battery. A primary battery can only be used once and cannot be recharged.
AC and DC literally stand for Alternating Current and Direct Current. Direct Current is very convenient and is used in many modern day utilities. For a circuit with DC the current is constanly in one direction, while the voltage remains constant. This makes for a simplistic circuit, for example a flashlight, The batteries are a source of electrochemical DC power and . However AC is called Alternating Current because the voltage changes from negative to positive a given number of times a second, this is also described as the frequency of the power. An example of this would be a motor ran by a hand crank. The inversing of charges creates a sinusoidal graph which looks something like figure 1 (given in radians). This makes for an unsteady power source and can often times be warped from the sinusoidal shape. So the main difference between AC and DC is the way the energy is transmitted.
Thomas Alva Edison was considered one of the greatest inventors and industrial leader. He had over 1000 inventions but none greater then his ability to develop a system that would provide people with a wide safe stable and efficient light and power. This also lead to other countries such as Europe and South America to follow this wonderful invention that modernized the world forever.

He had many strange inventions and discoveries, many of which where not realized because of his opponents or for personal reasons. Others, as we will see, were simply too far-fetched or ambitious.
