Due to the recent increase in minimum wage, people that pick fruit from an orchard may be costing more than the cost of a robot. Plus, these people are working overtime, which can cost even more money. Minimum wage in California is ten dollars per hour of work. If overtime is added the wages quickly rise. If the wages are then multiplied by the amount of employees in the orchard, the amount that an orchard spends may exceed the revenue they receive from the actual fruit. So the question is, would it be cheaper to build a robot to pick fruit instead of people? The age old struggle where man is replaced by machinery, but in this case, it might be more cost effective to just have a robot that is preprogrammed pick the fruit autonomously. This tree can grow from a range of twelve to fifteen feet. A well known semi dwarf tree is the cherry tree. One of the perks of this tree is that it can produce twice as much fruit as the dwarf tree. The next height is called the standard tree. This is the largest type of tree. It can grow from eighteen feet and above. This height can produce a shade for people and wildlife below and can help protect some wildlife from other environmental issues. While the other trees have perks about bearing fruit, this type of tree is the longest to bear fruit. In order for the robot to reach the fruit it must use motors to move to the location of the fruit. The first electric motor was created by Thomas Davenport. Thomas Davenport created motors that are powered by an alternating or direct current of electricity. Motors differ depending on what their task is, but they all use the power of magnetic fields. Alternating motors have secondary and primary winding. This means that there are coils of wire and when one of them is receiving an electric current the other is also receiving it. The primary winding is attached to the alternating current grid and it is energized. The secondary winding gets its energy without touching it using duction. These power sources help move other parts of an electric
The current minimum wage right now in California is $9.00 per hour. The question is, will this be enough for people to pay off their rent and still able to not keep their fridge empty. In the book, "Nickel and Dimed" by Barbara Ehrenreich talks about working as a low wage worker. Barbara describes the environment of the jobs that she had done in a detailed manner. She also explained how most of her coworkers lived with more than one person in order to pay rent. One of her job was working in a nursing home which she got a really low pay to take care of elderly people. In addition to that job, she had another job in order to pay off her rent. Therefore, according to the book an individual may need more than one job or live in a house with more

Trees grow into woody plants with a main trunk, many branches, and come in varieties of shapes, leaf types and reproductive organs. Tree roots can spread up to three meters in depth and width, sometimes damaging buildings or footpaths (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosynthesis, 2010). All plants photosynthesise, allowing production of their own food, by converting carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen using sunlight energy. Therefore as all organisms release carbon dioxide through respiration, only plants use it to produce oxygen, which is a circular process (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosynthesis, 2010).
Redwoods were named for the color of their bark and heartwood. These trees have a high resistance to fungus and diseases due to the high tanin content in the wood. The dense, fibrous bark has an even higher content, and acts as an insulator from periodic fires which have plagued the countryside for centuries. Though these trees are immense, they have delicate foliage. The needles are narrow and sharp-pointed, and combine to form feathery sprays. The cones are an inch long and typically contain fourteen to twenty-four seeds. The older trees offspring sprout form their parents' roots in order to take advantage of the established root system.
Understanding the basic concept of minimum wage is important for every single individual. We all live in this world together, and it is obvious that there is an order. In order to continue our lives and afford our basic needs, we all need to work and gain wealth. As the old adage says ‘‘There ain’t such a thing as a free lunch. ’’
The sugar pine is said to be the worlds largest pine, growing to nearly 200 feet tall with a trunk diameter of seven feet. (About sugar pine) The tallest recorded sugar pine still alive today, however, is 255 feet tall with a seven and a half foot diameter. It was found in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. These trees can grow to an age of about 400-500 years. sugar pine’s also have huge cones averaging 12-18 inches in length, but some can be as long as two feet. (About sugar pine)
On April 4, 2016, California Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill that would significantly raise the minimum wage for California workers. By 2022, California 's workers will receive a minimum wage of $15 per hour (Kurzweil, Anthony, Sara Welch, and Kareen Wynter). Brown signed this bill because employees cannot live above the poverty line if their minimum wage is not proportional to the cost of living (Scheiber, Noam, and Ian Lovett). The purpose of the minimum wage is to ensure that workers can provide essential amenities for themselves and their families. Many economists have been in a debate about this topic with mixed feelings, whether increasing the minimum wage would be a reasonable legislation or not. For most average American workers, at first, the idea of raising their salaries might make them feel thrilled and optimistic. However, increasing the minimum wage will have its pros and cons effect on the economy. Despite numerous of arguments from both sides, a compromise can be met regarding minimum wage.
Raising the minimum wage up to about three dollars should be done in increments of over a few years so it doesn’t shock the economy in any unpredictable way. Some states like California, won 't be affected that much, but where the minimum wage is $7.25 an hour that three dollars more will make a difference. We have to take into consideration how smaller economies and small business owners will be affected by
Minimum wage is a difficult number to decide on because it affects different income earning citizens in different ways. According to Principles of Microeconomics, by N. Gregory Mankiw, minimum wage is a law that establishes the lowest price for labor that and employer may pay (Mankiw 6-1b). Currently, the minimum wage in the United States is $7.25 per hour. For many years politicians and citizens have argued on what should be the minimum wage that would benefit the economy and society in general. A minimum wage was first established in 1938 to increase the standard of living of lower class workers. To discuss what is better for the country and its citizens, people have to understand what is a minimum wage and what are its effects.
Its well-known that minimum wage can easy vary from state to state city to city and even county to county. Furthermore each minimum wage law in each state/city or county has their own set of guidelines. The disparity of minimum wages within state lines is very diverse. For example the state of California has a state minimum wage of $8.00, while in Richmond, California the minimum wage $12.30 has recently been approved (www.foxnews.com). This is the highest among any state city or county and $2.00 above San Francisco’s $10.30 minimum wage (www.foxnews.com). For Richmond, California this makes sense becaus...
The United States federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour whereas states such as Washington have it at $9.19. “In 2010, 72.9 million American workers age 16 and over were paid at hourly rates, representing 58.8 percent of all wage and salary workers. Among those paid by the hour, 1.8 million earned exactly the prevailing Federal mi...
Increasing the minimum wage makes employers want to hire less minimum wage earners. It causes employers to substitute machines, technology for labor. Hiring people becomes more high-priced so you change to something else. Instead of hiring two people to plow the snow with push snow plowers, the employer buys a riding snow plower and employs one person, who, with the faster and better riding snow plower, can mow more plows at a quicker rate, then removing the need for a second worker. In January 1, 2012, California’s minimum wage was set as eight dollar per hour.
To understand how this motor works, we must understand the relationship between electricity, and magnetism, or simply put, electromagnetism. Direct electric current in a simple description: There are two requirements for current flow. The first is a source of electrical potential energy or EMF (electro motive force). The second is a conductor that provides a complete loop to carry the current. The reason a conductor will conduct is found at the atomic level.
Electric motors are the most common device for converting electrical energy into mechanical power. According to the laws of physics "whenever a current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, it experiences a mechanical force"[1]. The Armature which is simply a coil of wires is places between two magnets. When the current is supplied through the armature an electromagnetic force is induced on it according to the Lorentz law so the coil will start to rotate. As the armature is connected to the commutator rings which is connected to power supply of opposite polarity. This guarantees that the rotation action is always in the same direction throughout the motion of the armature, so the coil will continue on rotating. This rotation is
In 1831, using his "induction ring", Faraday made one of his greatest discoveries - electromagnetic induction: the "induction" or generation of electricity in a wire by means of the electromagnetic effect of a current in another wire. The induction ring was the first electric transformer. In a second series of experiments in September he discovered magneto-electric induction: the production of a steady electric current. To do this, Faraday attached two wires through a sliding contact to a copper disc. By rotating the disc between the poles of a horseshoe magnet he obtained a continuous direct current. This was the first generator. From his experiments came devices that led to the modern electric motor, generator and transformer.
