Intro Nikola Tesla was a Serbian American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer and physicist. He was also considered an eccentric genius and recluse. Tesla is best known for his feud with Thomas Edison over AC power Versus DC Power. He was also well known for inventing the Tesla Coil which is still used in radio technology today. Nikola Tesla was mostly forgotten until the 1990’s when there was a resurgence of interest in popular culture. Early life Nikola Tesla was born on July 10,1856 into a Serbian family. He was born in the village of Smiljan, Croatia. He was the fourth of five children born to Milutin & Duka Tesla. Milutin, Nikola’s father was an Orthodox priest and a writer. His Mother, Duka had a talent for making home craft tools and mechanical appliances. His father wanted him to become a priest but he was more like his Mother and drawn to inventing and the sciences. Education Nikola attended Primary School or Grade School from 1862 to 1869. He went to what would be known as Middle school starting in 1870 in a place called Karlovac. In 1874 Nikola would have been 18 years old. In 1875, Tesla studied math and physics at the Austrian Polytechnic in Graz, Austria. In his third year Nikola developed a gambling problem and did not graduate or receive grades for the …show more content…
last semester. In 1878, Nikola left Graz and severed all ties with his family to hide the fact that he dropped out of school. Research 1881 he moved to Budapest to work for the Budapest telephone exchange where he made many improvements to the Central Station Equipment.
In 1882, Nikola came up with the idea for a brushless AC motor and made his first sketches of it rotating electromagnets. He began working for the continental Edison Company in France designing and making improvements to the electrical equipment. Then in June 1884, Tesla relocated to New York City where he was hired by Thomas Edison to work at his Edison Machine Works. He and Edison worked alongside one another making improvements to Edison’s inventions. After several months they parted ways due to a disagreement over a
bet. Tesla received funding for the Tesla Electric Light Company in 1885 and his investors wanted him to develop improved arc lighting. Tesla was successful but was forced out of the venture. In 1887, he was able to find investors for to fund a new Tesla Electric Company for his AC electrical system. By the end of that year he had successfully filed patents for his AC based inventions. It was at this time that engineer and businessman George Westinghouse was wanting to find a way to supply the nation with long-distance power. In 1888, Tesla demonstrated his induction motor for the AC power system. George Westinghouse was convinced that Tesla’s AC system would help him achieve long-distance power for the nation. He purchased Tesla’s patents for AC electrical systems for $60,000 in cash and stock in the Westinghouse Corporation. This landed Tesla on the “AC” side of the so called “war of currents”, which was waged between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse. Thomas Edison had invented a DC (Direct Current) System and Tesla had invented the AC (Alternating Current) System. The AC system turned out to be more cost efficient because it could be sent at high voltages and then stepped down through a transformer for use in homes and businesses. In the end The Westinghouse Corporation was chosen to supply the lighting at the 1893, World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago where Tesla conducted demonstrations of the AC System. Death Nikola Tesla lived in New York City for nearly 60 years before his death. He grew eccentric later in life. He took long walks every day and devoted most of his time to the care of wild pigeons. Nikola Tesla died on January 7, 1943 at the age of 86. He died alone in room 3327 at the New Yorker Hotel where he had lived for many years. Nikola was a recluse and died a poor man. Impact of their work Tesla designed the first AC hydroelectric power plant in the United States, at Niagara Falls. The following year it was used to power the city of Buffalo, New York. The AC (Alternating-Current) system became the preeminent power system of the 20th century. It remains the worldwide standard. The “Tesla Coil” was another famous patented invention which laid the foundation for wireless technologies. It is still used in radio technology today. Many of Tesla’s inventions were officially patented by other inventors such as dynamos and the induction motor. As a result of the resurgence of interest in Nikola Tesla the most advanced electric car in history is called the “Tesla”. There is also a famous rock band named “Tesla”. In 2008 a group called the Tesla Science Center was formed with the intention of purchasing the Wardenclyffe site on Long Island, New York and creating a museum dedicated to Nikola Tesla. Nikola Tesla Biography By Jeremiah Hemphill
Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) was an eccentric man that was many lifetimes ahead of his generation. He was a man that dreamed of giving the world an unlimited supply of wireless energy. His genius imagination allowed him to think outside the box and solve issues that others had thought were unsolvable. Nikola Tesla proposed his vision for a system powered by an alternating current generator to Thomas Edison and was shot down because Thomas Edison’s power structure had already been established using a direct current system. The two butt heads however Nikola Tesla was relentless. After being used and rejected by Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla picked himself and went toe to toe with the most prolific inventor. The stage for David vs Goliath was set. Through Nikola Tesla’s borderline obsession to solve the design for an alternating current motor and sacrificing his own opportunity to become a wealthy man, we now live in a very efficient world where everyone reaps the rewards of his genius, few know his name, and even fewer know what he did.
Nikola Tesla (Physicist, Inventor, Futurist) – Nikola Tesla was a Serbian American electrical engineer, inventor, physicist, futurist and mechanical engineer who was recognized for his assistance in the proposal of alternating current (AC) for the system of electricity. He was born on July 10, 1856 in Smiljan, Austrian Empire which is presently known as Croatia. His father was named Milutin Tesla and was an Orthodox Priest. While his mother, Duka Tesla, was good in making home mechanical appliances, craft tools and has the skill to memorize Serbian poems.

One of these people was Nikola Tesla, a Serbian – American inventor, which revolutionized his time period. Nikola tesla is considered to be one of the most important scientist of all time. He invented things such as the remote control, wireless telegraph, and alternating current (which is the improvement to the dynamo). When tesla was in college, he saw how inefficient the dynamo was and decided that he could improve the efficiency and cheapen the machine. He said that the direct current was not a really good idea because at some time the poles would change and if the poles switches they would have to restart and that is not good thing, so he proposed the alternating current. The alternating current works through a system that occurs because of magnetism. In this new model of the dynamo the rotor inside moves in circles generating electricity without switching the poles and therefore it makes the machine more efficient and cheaper. The alternating current invented by Nikola Tesla was rode way to technology that we use today like the automobile and the
to college and study mathematics and physics but then he really wanted to study electricity
During the late 1800’s there were two men who both started to mess with the power of electricity there was Edison and Nikola Tesla. Edison was the first man to create the electrical system, but according to Tesla the way Edison’s system was designed and had flaws that that Tesla didn’t agree with. Edison’s idea is still used to this day but now has the improvements that were given by Nikola Tesla. Nikola Tesla was born in Smijan, Croatia in 1856 to a mother named Djuka Mandic who was also an inventor for small appliances and a father named Milutin Tesla who was a man of the priesthood. As a young boy is was influenced and great deal by his mother in the world of inventing and started to help his mother with her inventions.
He was an inventor who made many things that are used in our daily life today. His biggest major breakthrough was discovered Alternating current. Some believed that AC was far dangerous to have in their homes, but he proved them wrong when he sent AC through his body and animal´s bodies and proved that it was safe. Nikola Tesla's discovery of Alternating Current is still used today to provide power to the United States. Another famous invention he made was the radio. The radio has been used ever since it has been invented. It was a luxury to have when it was first released, but they are now common items. They are in every car to play music or play talk shows which have made car rides much more pleasant. Afterwards, Tesla created the remote control. The inventor made a remote-controlled boat to demonstrate his breakthrough but, this had little use at the time (West). Now, they control everything from military tanks, fighter jets and boats to kids toy cars. The brilliant inventor also played a big role in discovering X-Rays. The reason why he wasn’t credited with discovering it is because almost all of his work was destroyed when his laboratory in New York burned down. He was the first to bring up the possibility of x-rays hurting us if we are unprotected from it’s radiation, in addition to discovering it (Hrabak, Maja et. al). X-rays are used every day by doctors to produce images of organs, tissue and bones. Without the technological breakthroughs that Nikola Tesla made the United
The Tesla coil is an electrical circuit made of the resonant transformer and developed by the famous inventor Nikola Tesla around 1891 as a power supply for his "System of Electric Lighting". The project mentioned above was designed to produce a current that alternates with high frequency, low-current and high voltage. Tesla experimented with a number of different configurations consisting of two, or sometimes three, coupled resonant electric circuits.
Nikola Tesla wasn’t fully known until the last few chapters of the book, Distant Waves by Suzanne Weyn, although he was the driving force for main plot points in the story. Throughout the novel, Tesla invented many new devices that help to drive the plot of the book forward, like the earthquake machine and the time machine. Tesla was the reason Jane was able to meet Thad and his time machine in the book is what saved Mimi, Thad, Jane and himself from possibly meeting death while the Titanic was sinking. Although, Tesla did have some questionable moments as well.
Nikola Tesla was born on July 10th, 1856 in Smiljan, Croatia. He was raised up by Serbian parents. His father, Milutin Tesla was an Eastern Orthodox priest and mother, Buka Tesla had a talent for making home craft tools. As a kid, Nikola was fascinated by the waves of Niagara Falls. He pictured a rotating wheel running the falls. He told his uncle that he was going to go to America and carry out that plan. While practicing for the seminary, Tesla contracted cholera. Bedridden at 17, his father promised him that he would go to one of the best technology schools for engineering. At the age of 21, Nikola traveled to Graz, Austria to go to school. While at school he becomes obsessed with electricity. In 1880, Nikola moved to Budapest to find employment in a central telegraph office.
Tesla, it will change your life forever. Tesla was founded not by Elon Musk, but rather by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning in July 2003(Visual Capitalist, 2017.) Elon Musk then took over in 2004 with the Series A. On July 19, 2006 tesla officially became a car company. Tesla struggled, but managed to pull through and pay back a loans by May 2013. Tesla is the first all American car company since Ford in 1956. Tesla is working hard to improve and create new cars every day (TechCrunch, 2017).
Nikola Tesla once said, "Let the future tell the truth, and evaluate each one according to his work and accomplishments. The present is theirs; the future, for which I have really worked, is mine" (Cooper 20). It is unbelievable how Tesla’s innovations impacted the world. He was the first person who efficiently worked in the development of AC (alternate current) motors. It was through his inventions that electricity could be produced using high voltages for long distances.
First of all the developer of this innovation was Nikola Tesla ; a Serbian- American Engineer and Physicist. His first project was the AC motor generator and the development of transmissional technology. His success with this lasted until he had an argument with his boss because of his mad scientist
When you turn on a light, you probably think you owe it all to Thomas Edison, right? Well, not really. Although Edison did discover electricity, there was one person that changed electric technology forever: Nikola Tesla Nikola Tesla was born on July 10th of 1856 in Smiljan, Croatia. He had a difficult childhood. His brother died in a riding accident when he was 7.
Nikola Tesla was born in a small town called Smiljan, in what is now Croatia, during a lightning storm. Some would say that this would prove significant later in his life. He grew up the son of a Serbian Orthodox Reverend, and was one of five children. He was an avid reader, and would often memorize entire books.
