This coming February I am hoping to attend the NerdCon Nerdfighteria Convention in Boston. For this privilege, I will be paying $60 for two days of entertainment and excitement. There are many other people from around the globe who will be joining in the experience as well. The value which everyone places on these tickets depends deeply on the social relationships and the connections which are made through shared interest. Like with any fan convention, participants pay money to spend time with like-mined people and to experience first-hand the excitement of being part of a group of people who are all enthusiastic about the same things. YouTube and the internet are most likely the biggest ways that the organizers reach potential attendees, but also, word of mouth and the spread of ideas is important for this kind of event. Many of the people who will be attending are avid watchers of the channels of the presenters at the convention. Others will simply be people who heard about the fantastic amount of nerd culture which will be present in Boston. The social relationships within this kind of event are probably the most pronounced. The whole purpose of conventions is to connect people together who share similar beliefs, interests, and enthusiasms but who would otherwise be unlikely to meet up in the real world. The social relationships which can be made on the internet are constantly evolving and changing, but for this community, the “real world” is where some of the more meaningful interactions take place. Many people have heroes who they never get to meet, but an event like this allows people not only to meet the people they admire, but others who are also enthusiastic about similar things. The economic value of an event like this is driven up by the emotional connections which can be made and the relationships which can be forged from a shared
Technology in the world has changed people’s aspirations from creating solid relationships; up until now, to obtain self-respect, it helped to get flattering remarks from a friend, but now someone’s pride relies on the number of favorites they get. He declared that people need to see “how many names they can collect.” He convenes this “friendship lite” because it is not real friendship, just virtual (356). The technology has not just made social media more approachable, but furthermore television
The movie, Cool Hand Luke, tells a story of a man named, Lucas Jackson, who is confronted with the challenges of authority after being wrongfully convicted of crime too petty and insignificant to equate to the large sentence he had received. Throughout the entire length of the film, Lucas is faced with tremendous physical and emotional torture in numerous and inhuman ways. Despite the astounding punishments Luke is able to endure throughout the film, he manages to gain the respect of the prisoners and guards’, as well as utilizing his tenacity, charisma, and wits to not only influence the prison chain-gang, but to gain the power in order to unmask and expose the authority around them. In the following essay, I will analyze and describe how
it would not only raise money for a worthy cause but also bring joy to those participating in it.

The price elasticity of demand for lottery tickets shows that demand varies depending on the expected return from a winning ticket (Farrel 1). From this we deduce that this elasticity is relevant to the design of the lottery (Farrel 1). The way that the demand elasticity is derived is by comparing the rollover weeks with the non-rollover weeks. By doing this, the normal demand is recorded during the non-rollover weeks to see what level the demand is usually at. Then from there they can see how the demand increases as the lott...

The Toronto Blue Jays baseball team was founded in the 1970s and experienced support from the fans during the 1970s and 1980s. In 1992 and 1993, the Jays won back-to-back World Series, yet in 1994, the team faced setbacks. The team had a losing streak, there was a major league baseball strike, and no World Series was played. At the same time, gambling came to Toronto, and the team had to compete for the fan's time. Also, players' salaries skyrocketed at a time when the Canadian dollar fell in value. How could the Toronto Blue Jays adjust ticket prices to improve financial performance and increase fan attendance?
After a company decides on its product(s), it has to think how it will price said product(s). Disney goes about pricing for all of its products in different ways. For instance, Disney’s amusement park tickets are cheaper during times of the year that it is the least busy and the tickets prices rise during sessions that the parks are busiest ("Your Ticket"). However, Disney’s biggest competitor, Universal Studios, goes about things in a very different way. Universal Studios tickets cost the same no matter
Thanks to these factors, pricing becomes one of the primary uses with which hotels attract customers. However, due to customers’ independent nature, there influence over industry players is limited. In the high-end segment of hotels, price influence becomes even less as hotels find it easier to differentiate themselves from the competition and customers become less price sensitive coming to expect higher prices as a symbolism of superior quality and services. In her article “Friends Indeed?” Joel Garreau explains that for two decades, online social networks have been touted as one of the finest flowerings of our new era. But what is the strength of ties so weak as to barely exist? Who will lend you lunch money? Who’s got your back?” Technology has overtaken individuals by social media, allowing many people to communicate online rather than having face-to-face communication. Many “relationships” begin online, and end online. Although, true relationships are rarely created fast, it gradually grows and becomes stronger and stronger over the years. However, in our immediate society this is not the case. But the questions still remains, as Joel Garreau points out “Who would lend you lunch money?” in other words, who will help you physically not online. In our impatient society, technologies influenced the way individual communicate, and that often times leads to depression, loneliness and addictions.
In a day and age where hightech commodities take up the majority of the population’s interest, the thought of going outside to spend time away from busy city streets and the nearest cell tower does not appeal to many millennials. However, the NPS has found a way to market to this demographic: embracing technology. The NPS “embraces technology” not by putting internet access or the likes in their parks, but by advertising them using multiple platforms to reach their target demographic. This can be achieved in many ways: “using a constantly updated website, extensive social media outreach, and temporary kiosks in..cities...where users can take a brief virtual tour of every national park” (Egan). Additionally, wellknown artists or actors
