I am applying to your Masters of Natural Resources Stewardship online program for the fall of 2017. Last summer I graduated California State University of San Bernardino, earning an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies. Before I attended the university I started my education at Victor Valley College where I earned a double associate degree in Science and Environmental Horticulture. During my time at both schools I was chosen to enter honor programs. I graduated with Phi Theta Kappa honors at a junior college level and Gamma Theta Upsilon national geography honors at the university level.
Having a field of work in which I spend the majority of my time outdoors has always been the only option for me. Growing up in Wrightwood, a small

I focused my studies mostly on subjects that were related to plants and plant identification. Some of my favorite classes were Environmental Horticulture (ANGR 140) and Native Plant Materials and Usage (ANGR 141). I was always at the top of my class with these subjects and would tutor my fellow students to help them better understand the material. My courses at California State University of San Bernardino were more centered around the subjects you would use in a the environmental work place. Some examples of those courses are; Urban Planning and Development (GEOG 415), Map Interpretation (GEOG 201) and Conservation of Natural Recourses(GEOG 350). They also put a lot of effort into training students on GIS/ArcMap, because it is a sought after skill in the environmental …show more content…
I have been working on a restoration protect at Piute Ponds, located on Edwards Air Force Base. The purpose of this project is to restore the wetland habitat from the intrusion of invasive species and revegetate it with Sand Bar Willows(Salix exigua) to encourage nesting of the endangered Southwestern Willow Flycatcher. Me, along with several other employees harvested approximately 250 willow pole cuttings from other, more thriving wetlands in the area and planted them in the Piute Ponds vicinity during January and February of this year. Currently, around 90% of the pole plantings have started to sprout. We have been using herbicide and mechanical methods to try and eradicate populations of Perennial Pepperweed(Lepidium latifolium), Russian Knapweed(Rhaponticum repens) and Salt Cedar(Tamarisk). I have also been involved with surveying historic Honey Mesquite(Prosopis glandulosa) groves on the base. This survey is done every three years to determine if the groves are decreasing in size because of the nearby agricultural fields taking a large portion of the groundwater in the

The major rivers in this area are the Sabine, Cypress, Sulpher, and Red. The major aquifer is the Carrizo-Wilcox. And the land area of the Pineywoods is 23,500 square miles. “Regional average rainfall for the area is 40-52 in./yr. and the reagional average net evaporation rate is 16-32 inches.”
The area has been turned into a wildlife preserve to help maintain those ecosystems. The
Having a hometown developed from agriculture, and a hometown that has shaped into a diverse community, has given me the opportunity to not only observe and learn many different perspectives of farm life, but to learn about other cultures as well. In addition, living in a smaller rural area has also been nice because it gives you the ability to be able to get away from the hustle and bustle of an urban area and just be able to be out in an open and peaceful environment. Yet, if you do want to go to town for something you need or for entertainment, you do not have far to go and does not take long to get there. However, it is always good to be home on the farm to enjoy the open blue sky or a nighttime sky full of stars.

Ashlee Doyon Second Response Paper (Redo) Environmental Identity What is environmental identity? "Environmental identity, is how one views oneself in relation to the natural world. Environmental identity is part of the way in which one forms his/her self-concept and a sense of connection to some part of the nonhuman natural environment, based on personal history, emotional attachment, and/or similarity.
I am applying to your master’s program in Graduate Certification in Addiction Counseling for the fall of 2016. In the spring of 2016 I will be earning my undergraduate degree in Social Science with a Minor in Child & Family Studies. I have worked for the past two years within the homeless population as a Residual Advocate here in Portland. Along with that I have had many volunteer venues here in the North West, accumulating more than 1000 hours of volunteering time.
I would describe my worldview towards the environment as ecocentrism. This means I value it gives out and restores. I also value animal species, which means I also have a preservation ethic.I also think that the mankind should take time to see that the animals are dying and if they all die then we will not have nothing to eat. In general, I believe people should clean and should protect the environment. Other people may have different worldviews, such as keep killing the animal species or just going to kill the animal species every week and keep doing it every day. People who have those views believe that animals are our food or they keep us not from being hungry.what i see is they some people point of view that they think it’s ok to kill
The study area consisted of Latah and Benewoh in Idaho, USA. The research used a total of 105 sites to collect data; ranking the areas from lowest to highest elevation. The methods implemented in this research consisted of wetland sampling, mail survey and habitat modelling. The combined results allowed for better insight for the conservation of these species. The first section of the experiment consist...
People have been relying for their daily needs and well-being on nature. The natural ecosystem provides varieties of goods and services to us, for instance, fresh water, fisheries, timber, water purification etc. The benefits that people directly get from the natural systems are called ecosystem services (ES).
When I think of the perfect place, I imagine a cascading waterfall, a vast forest, a stunning mountainside, or a warm sunset on the beach. I look up around me, mesmerized by the vastness of the natural world and breathe in the fresh air. Over the course of my life, I have come to respect the environment and the earth’s natural surroundings in ways that most others do not in the industrialized and technological era of today. I can appreciate the beauty of the Earth and of all the different landscapes and organisms that surround me. The way in which I value and treasure the environment has evolved just as I have. I see the environment as something to be preserved and admired, not destroyed or exploited. My relationship with the environment is
I would like to contribute to the research going on in your University to the best of my capacity and utilize the facilities in a responsible manner. I am confident that I can deliver and live up to my expectations with the best of conduct. Thanking for giving me an opportunity to apply to your prestigious university.
Growing up in the Appalachian region has instilled within me an exceptional sense of respect and pride for the natural resource industry. The industry has provided a strong foundation for success for towns, communities and families for a numerous amount of years now. Along with natural gas, the coal mining industry has had a profound impact upon my upbringing. Many members of my family have devoted large portions of their time and lives to working within the industry. It has provided them with the means to provide for our family and with a respectable career, which they can be proud of.
Most people think they know a wetland when they see one, but the delineation of wetlands for the purpose of granting permits has proven enormously controversial. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), an area is defined as a wetland when a combination of three technical criteria are met: Wetland hydrology (land that is saturated within 18 inches of the surface for more than seven days per year), Hydrophytic vegetation (a list of plants that will thrive in wet areas), and Hydric soil (mucky and peat-based soil). The continual destruction of these valuable lands is due mainly to farmers, oil and mining interests, and development groups (Russel, p.36). It is estimated that 30-40% of the original wetlands in the United States have been lost, and about 300-400,000 acres are destroyed each year (Hollis, p. 36). Recent concern has led to an increase in wetland restoration and creation to reduce the impacts of activities in or near wetlands, compensate for additional losses, and to restore or replace wetlands already degraded or destroyed (Nicholas, p. 39).
Environmental studies is a paramount field to focus on for both the present day and the future. This field of studies pertains to all people, animals, plants, and biomes around the world. Environmental Studying is important because it is only by understands the environmental processes that we can begin to take the steps necessary to correct the on-going damage that is occurring, and ultimately protect and sustain life on the planet. Unless steps are taken to try and abate and control environmental problems, which are often human-generated or exacerbated, then the environmental that we live in will continue to deteriorate. There is no life without protecting the source that sustains us. Even though I have only been alive for seventeen years, it has been long enough to see many negative environmental changes. Since I was born that population has grown by over one billion people causing deforestation, loss of wildlife, increased pollution to both air and water, and even superbugs. However, I have also been able to see extremely positive results such as an increase in the research and implementation of renewable resources. The reason I am so motivated to study environmental science is because I know that change is possible. Those who study environmental science and study have the ability to help reduce, and possible reserve, some of the damage that has been done to the environment while at the same time, helping to advance the well-being of our fellow humans.
