I would describe my worldview towards the environment as ecocentrism. This means I value it gives out and restores. I also value animal species, which means I also have a preservation ethic.I also think that the mankind should take time to see that the animals are dying and if they all die then we will not have nothing to eat. In general, I believe people should clean and should protect the environment. Other people may have different worldviews, such as keep killing the animal species or just going to kill the animal species every week and keep doing it every day. People who have those views believe that animals are our food or they keep us not from being hungry.what i see is they some people point of view that they think it’s ok to kill …show more content…
animals and to think it’s ok to just use the animals species and not give nothing back to them, but we always get what we want and they don’t. I do not agree with these views because i feel that it’s wrong to not give the animals what they want but we eating their family member. I think my culture has influenced the way I look at the environment because animals are dying every day and just being used and not giving nothing back.
My family has influenced my views because they see that we should give the animals something back to show that we thank them for keeping us with food. My family also thinks that we should do something to stop eating all the animals and to keep some of them alive to have animals to see.I am from Baton Rouge , which has also had an effect on the way I value the environment, because in baton rouge we always have animals in a pot cooking or a animals ran over in the middle of the street and i think we need to stop that out here in baton rouge and to show that we care about the …show more content…
animals. Personally, my experiences have also shaped the way I view the environment, and my beliefs about the environment. For example, when I was younger I used to fish with my grandpa and i used to ask him what was he going to do with the fishes and he will say cook it .Other thing when i was young i use to see animals in the middle of the road with their blood and guts all over the road and i used to cry cause it was a shame to see these animals being killed everyday. This affected my beliefs because these animals didn’t do nothing to us for us to be killing them and not to be alive and walking around free and not eaten. I think that animals being beaten also affected the way I look at the environment, because to show that mankind doesn’t care about animals and that they are just toys that can be thrown around, beaten on,and just not a living thing. When I talked to my family about the way they look at the environment, they said that we should treat the animals like they are humans.
I agree with what they said about treating the animals like humans, because i think it’s the right thing to do and for us and the animals to have a equal life. I also think we should give them back things they need and want because if it wasn’t for them we would not be alive right now to tell how we feel about their lives. However, I disagree with the people who don’t think animal lives matter because I believe their lives matter cause they gave us something we need to stay alive, but they believe that animals don’t matter to them and that they should die.Another thing is that the people who don’t care should care cause if they walked in those animals feet they wouldn’t like
it. This summer, I read/watched discovery channel. This made me think about that the animals are some wonderful creatures because they helped keep us alive. I changed my mind about treating the animals like they are humans because of their lives and they should be treated the right way. They didn’t have to let us survive or even be alive so we have to treat them right.I did not change my mind about eating some good fry chicken, because chicken is the bomb ,even though what I read/watched disagrees.
The long-term aim is to develop an approach to ethics that will help resolve contemporary issues regarding animals and the environment. In their classical formulations and as recently revised by animal and environmental ethicists, mainstream Kantian, utilitarian, and virtue theories have failed adequately to include either animals or the environment, or both. The result has been theoretical fragmentation and intractability, which in turn have contributed, at the practical level, to both public and private indecision, disagreement, and conflict. Immensely important are the practical issues; for instance, at the public level: the biologically unacceptable and perhaps cataclysmic current rate of species extinctions, the development or preservation of the few remaining wilderness areas, the global limitations on the sustainable distribution of the current standard of living in the developed nations, and the nonsustainability and abusiveness of today's technologically intense crop and animal farming. For individuals in their private lives, the choices include, for example: what foods to eat, what clothing to wear, modes of transportation, labor-intensive work and housing, controlling reproduction, and the distribution of basic and luxury goods. What is needed is an ethical approach that will peacefully resolve these and other quandaries, either by producing consensus or by explaining the rational and moral basis for the continuing disagreement.
In the article you published called “A Change of Heart about Animals,” Jeremy Rifkin states “Many of our fellow creatures are more like us than we had ever imagined.”. I agree and believe society should be more involved into the way we do things that involves animals. We need to be more aware about the animals and that they have feelings and emotions too and we should not be taking advantage of that. Rifkin stated a lot of good points and arguments. I honestly do not agree we should end all animals deaths, but I do believe there should be an awareness against animal cruelty.
Throughout history, societies have been faced with many social issues affecting their citizens. Martin Luther King Jr, a civil rights leader for African Americans, was an advocate for the Civil Rights Movement, a movement that fought to undo the injustices African Americans endure by American society in the 1960s. Martin expressed his disgust with the social inequality among citizens when saying “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” (PETA). Taking the prominent leader’s words into consideration, we should progress as a society by participating in the animal rights movement that strives to extend the same compassion, felt by Martin Luther King Jr, to all living things (PETA). Popular criticisms report that animals are inferior to humans because they are a source of food, but I will argue that they are victims of social injustice. Validity for my animal rights argument will come from individual and organizational expert accounts and by Bioethicist Peter Singer, Author Francis Fukuyama, New York Time’s Mark Bittman and also Animal Rights organizations, such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), and Animal Equality, to help prove my argument. Animals are silent victims who are loudly crying out for someone to stand up for their rights; rights that can no longer be disregarded by being overlooked. It is my belief that animals should be respected, and afforded ethical and human treatment by society instead of being looked at as a source of food. In a society where animals have no voice, it is everyone’s civic duty to participate in the animal rights movement and acknowledge animals as living beings, which...
...ans should be able to possess animals or not. One side of the scale believes that anybody can have animals. The other side of the scale believes that nobody has the right to have any animals. The middle ground or the middle of the scale believes that only some people should have the right to own animals. Each side has very good reasons for their arguments and points of view. Although some of these reasons are considered ridiculous by some certain people. The people who care about this should be almost everyone, because almost everyone has experienced visiting a zoo, animal abuse or even buying a pet. This issue is a huge deal to humans because there are so many animals and we have to figure out what to do with them and who is or who is not allowed to take care of them; Especially since humans have been diffusing all over the world, taking over animal’s environments.
An environmentalist is a person who worships the environment and cares for nature more than people. Christians and others share the common perception that environmental ethics exist for how human beings should relate to the land, the free market, and the environmental. Humans share a relationship with all creations of the earth. But as humans, they find themselves as having a role in the created order, which is they have a closer relationship with the creator who has charged them with acting responsible within his creation. Even allowing a common complaint of environmental activists is that Stewardship means that the earth was made exclusively because of human beings - that having dominion over nature is the same as having the power and authority of dominion.
My task in establishing a worldview seemed daunting until reviewing, “I believe God is the source of all truth”(Hindson and Towns). This inspired me to not worry and focus on God’s message to me. In studying and researching I discovered Romans is the New Testament’s most important book. The importance of Romans is summarized best by Martin Luther, “This Epistle is really the chief part of the New Testament and the very purest Gospel, and is worthy not only that every Christian should know it word for word, by heart, buy occupy himself with it every day, as the daily bread of the soul”(Luther).
believe that animals do not have the same rights as humans because they are not
Animals can be a man's best friend; however, they can also be ones worst enemy after passing certain boundaries. Peter Singer who wrote Animal Liberation gave valid points in my opinion because animals do have a right to live and we should give them their space. Humans take everything for granted and never seem to learn until it too late. Today slaughterhouses are abusing animals in disturbing ways which has to change. I will agree with Singers concepts on animals because they have a right to live a peaceful life like humans; they have a life ahead of them once they are born. Singer argues that animals should have their interests considered throughout their lives. Singer wants to eliminate speciesism from our thoughts which is, a human discriminatory belief that all other animals are not as good as them therefore they do not have rights and we could do what we want to them. We should not be the only types of "animals" in this earth who has a set of rights we should abide.
Since being developed by Bronfenbrenner in 1979 social ecological perspectives have been widely used to formulate practice guidelines and government policies when planning service needs for children, young people and their families. This essay will discuss what a social ecological perspective consists of, what limitations it may incur and how it can assist us in developing best practice and understanding when working with children, young people and families. It will draw on examples from K218 for illustrative purposes.
An ecocriticism is is a lens that looks at the relationship between people and the natural world. Thomas K. Dean gave a better description be stating, “Ecocriticism is a study of culture and cultural products (art works, writings, scientific theories, etc.) that is in some way connected with the human relationship to
The most obvious reason that the environment has moral significance is that damage to it affects humans. Supporters of a completely human-centered ethic claim that we should be concerned for the environment only as far as our actions would have a negative effect on other people. Nature has no intrinsic value; it is not good and desirable apart from its interaction with human beings. Destruction and pollution of the environment cannot be wrong unless it results in harm to other humans. This view has its roots in Western tradition, which declares that “human beings are the only morally important members of this world” (Singer p.268).
As a result, It hurts my heart to see our world being destroyed by people who are not educated. These people pay no regard to how their actions are slowly destroying our world. Like Rachel Carson said, “only within the moment of time presented by the present century has one species -man- acquired significant power to alter the nature of this world”, we can already see the effects of what our species has done in only the last two hundred years. If we continue on this path of greed and destruction, our planet will not be suitable for life on earth and our species along with millions of others will go extinct but the planet will continue to live on. While we try to save our species, we may help to resolve the destruction we have caused along the way. It is easy for one to think that their actions alone are not making a difference but if everyone thinks this way, no change will ever be made. I believe that every person can make a difference if they take the right steps toward a more sustainable lifestyle. It is important that we work together to try and undo what we have done, as impossible as that may seem. I feel this way toward these issues because of the admiration I have towards the environment. My relationship with the environment is not one that came about overnight, but rather, one that started as something small in the memory of a fifth grader to what is now my passion
In conclusion I hope to have shed some new light on just what animal cruelty is and what it consists of. I hope that with this information people will be more open to what they see. Hopefully this information will cut down on animal abuse and will make people watch out for mistreatment of animals. I hope that people will think twice before abusing animals. Animals DO have feelings. They may not be able to talk and tell us where it hurts, but they do feel pain just like humans. There are laws to protect animals just like humans. I do not feel as though the laws are strong enough nor are they enforced the way they should.
Two philosophies were developed in the past as part of the early environmental consciousness. Utilitarian conservation states that resources should be used for the greatest good for the greatest number for the longest time. Biocentric preservation, on the other hand, emphasizes the fundamental right of living organisms to exist and to pursue their own goods. Early schools of thought and rising concerns such as fossil fuel issues, air and water pollution and biodiversity loss led to modern environmentalism, the active participation in attempts to solve environmental pollution and resource problems. This term reinforces the notion that human beings have a responsibility to protect the environment. Similarly, global environmentalism is a concern or action to help solve global environmental problems.
