Native Silver, or more commonly know as just “silver,” is a mineral that is created from the element silver (also called Argentum; abbreviated on the periodic table as Ag). It is seldom found as a native element mineral. Instead, it has tendencies to mix together with other minerals such as quartz, gold, and copper.1 11 Silver is actually not really reactive. It is even considered one of the “noblest” of the transition metals, noblest meaning “least chemically reactive.”5 In fact, it is used in many dishes as a fancy garnish that is able (and sometimes meant) to be eaten. Native silver also has one of the highest conductivity rates, both electrical and thermal, of metals. Because of this property, it is used in many electronic circuits as a thin coating.5 Due to its shiny, lustrous quality, native silver is also used for jewelry, decorations, and ornaments.

identify native silver, scientists use its specific mineral properties. Silver has a silvery-white colour to it and is also extremely metallically lustrous, making it very appealing to the eye. It is quite a soft mineral, with a hardness on the Moh’s scale at around 2.5-3.0, which is about the same softness and flexibility as your fingernail. The density of silver, however, ranges around 10.1-11.1g/cm3, which is pretty heavy for a mineral. It is slightly less dense than gold, which has a density around 19g/cm3.2 Native silver does not have any cleavage. Instead, it has an isometric crystalline structure, as pictured. Its refractive index is opaque. Using these unique properties, people are able to mine and extract native silver as well as manufacture it into a useable product for people to use. Native silver is mined by using the processes of open-pit or underground methods, as well as floatation separation.6 The extraction and refining of native silver is dependent on the ores of which it is found in.
For example, if it is found mixed in an ore of copper, manufacturers must use a technique called smelting to separate the mineral from the element. The smelting oxidizes all the elements present except for silver and gold. Then, the manufacturers use the processes of the Moebius and Thum Balbach electrorefining that result in refining 99.99% silver.6 If found mixed in an ore of lead, the Parkes process is used to separate the silver. People add zinc to the mixture, which reacts and combines with the silver. The silver is then refined through the processes of Moebius or Thum Balbach, as well as the Wohlwill process to refine it from gold.6 When the silver is found in a zinc ore, however, the zinc concentrates are roasted and then put through the process of slag fuming, which makes the silver dissolve. After, it goes through the same lead refining process
aforementioned.6 There are numerous amounts of mills, refineries, and mines for silver. For example, there is the silver mine in Penasquito, Mexico, that holds the record for being the world’s largest mine by reserve. It contains about 911.8 million ounces of silver (Moz). Mexico itself is the world’s biggest silver-producing country. The second runner up to Penasquito is Polkowice-Sieroszowice, Poland, containing about 775 Moz.4 In the United States, native silver has been commonly found together with native copper in copper mines located near Lake Superior. There has also been large masses of it found in the silver mines at Aspen, Colorado.2 10 There has been many socioeconomic impacts of native silver both in the past and the present. In the past, silver was used economically for minting coins. In fact, any coins minted pre-1965 were made of 90% silver, as compared to post-1965 (presently) coins that varied with different amounts of silver in them. For example, dimes and quarters no longer contain any silver.1 8 Silver has also caused much devastation in the past. For instance, in the early sixteenth century, there was a colonial silver mining boom which led to deforestation due to all the mining. Though it did a lot in improving Mexico’s economy financially, it hurt the country very badly ecologically. Because of the extremely rapid deforestation, local woods meant for fuel were quickly exhausted and caused many people to suffer.7 A way that it has helped us socioeconomically in the present is that silver is now typically used to plate our electronic motherboards, as a coating for jewelries, and basically anything considered to be luxurious will have some sort of silver in it. Today, it helps the economy greatly by bringing in money to the country through products and trading with other countries.1 In the year of 1872, the Mining Law was passed, which gave restrictions on mining minerals such as silver, gold, and platinum on federal land of the United States. This was to protect the little remaining precious minerals that we still had. Acts like this on a national scale helped conserve the use of the mineral silver.9 Nowadays, however, people can personally help to preserve silver by simply not buying products that contain large amounts of silver that they know that they will not constantly use. The main reason for silver being in such demand, and consequently rare, is because of popular demand. It is a shiny and aesthetically pleasing mineral which causes it to be wanted for people to adorn themselves with. However, all the silver bought in the form of jewelry or other luxuries is seldom used. If people stop buying silver so much and start helping to conserve it, it can specifically help preserve it for a longer time. Native silver is a beautiful and amazing mineral. It makes having electronics, ornaments, luxuries, and the like possible. It has many qualities unique for itself and is very useful. Silver can be mined, milled, and refined in different ways depending upon which element that it is mixed with at the time, as it rarely exists by itself. In the past, silver has done much good to the economy of societies but has also led to deforestation and exhaustion of wood supplies. In the present, it is still giving us profit in the form of goods and products and trade. However, this comes with a cost, as we use and manufacture more silver than is naturally produced in the earth. That is why there are laws that protect them such as the Mining Law of 1872. People can also personally help conserve and preserve silver by not buying something that they know they won’t use frequently. Overall, silver is truly a great mineral that has helped us tremendously throughout the ages.
“Notes of a Native Son” is an essay that takes you deep into the history of James Baldwin. In the essay there is much to be said about than merely scratching the surface. Baldwin starts the essay by immediately throwing life and death into a strange coincidental twist. On the 29th of July, 1943 Baldwin’s youngest sibling was born and on the same day just hours earlier his father took his last breath of air from behind the white sheets of a hospital bed. It seems all too ironic and honestly overwhelming for Baldwin. From these events Baldwin creates a woven interplay of events that smother a conscience the and provide insight to a black struggle against life.
Throughout ancient history, many indigenous tribes and cultures have shown a common trait of being hunter/gatherer societies, relying solely on what nature had to offer. The geographical location influenced all aspects of tribal life including, spirituality, healing philosophy and healing practices. Despite vast differences in the geographical location, reports show various similarities relating to the spirituality, healing philosophy and healing practices of indigenous tribal cultures.
Throughout the history of Canada the indigenous population of the country have been voiceless. They have been both suppressed and oppressed by the Federal and various Provincial governments within Canada. Many organizations tried to provide a voice for the native population but failed in their attempt. These organizations eventually merged together to become what is now known as The Assembly of First Nations. The Assembly of First Nations gives voice to the issues and problems facing the different components of the aboriginal community in Canada.
Teams use Native American mascots in all sports, to represent their team’s pride, strength, and will to win. The role the mascot plays is an intimidation factor, as well as something to motivate the team. Mascots rarely fall under scrutiny, except for the mascots that represent Native American tribes, people or cultures. Many schools and teams use some sort of Native American reference as a mascot. Examples of Native American mascot range from names like the Indians, Chiefs, and Braves, which are some of the more generic ones, to Seminoles, Fighting Illini, and Chippewas to name some of the tribal based names.

Native Americans lived on the land that is now called America, but when white settlers started to take over the land, many lives of Native Americans were lost. Today, many people believe that the things that have been done and are being done right now, is an honor or an insult to the Natives. The choices that were made and being made were an insult to the Native Americans that live and used to live on this land, by being insulted by land policies, boardings schools and modern issues, all in which contain mistreatment of the Natives. The power that the settlers and the people who governed them had, overcame the power of the Natives so the settlers took advantage and changed the Natives way of life to the
All over the world, people have always sought for power, they have struggled to defend their culture; they have worked beyond imaginable to obtain economic prosperity and political freedom. A matter of fact equality is something that nowadays we are still fighting to obtain. Education has always been the key to power. In the twenty-first century education means a way to obtain the American dream, in other words, to achieve success. However, schools were never intended to empower people to think for themselves or to help them succeed. At the beginning of the American school, different groups of people wanted different things to come out of schooling, one of those things was to facilitate reading the bible in the text it states that “Schooling became important as a means of sustaining a well- ordered religious commonwealth” (Spring 22).
Bigger did not have a fair trial. On a Saturday, Bigger learned that he would have a job as a chauffeur for a millionaire family; he takes the job after rejecting the temptation to rob Blum's deli. Early Sunday morning, Bigger returns Mary Dalton to her home, accidentally suffocating her. Later Sunday, Bigger visits Bessie, forges a ransom note, discovers the "discovery" of Mary's earrings in the ash, returns to Bessie and rapes and kills her. Monday, Bigger is on the run and he is caught that very night. His inquest is on a Tuesday, his trial is on a Wednesday, and his execution is to be "on or before midnight," Friday. He was tortured his fingernails have been ripped out.
You see Native American team names and mascots everywhere in sports: middle schools, high schools, colleges and professional teams. In fact, 900 teams in the United States use Native American terms (Potenza). Over the past couple years, Native American groups began to protest, sue, and ask teams with Native American nicknames to change their names, mascots, and logos. For instance, in 2014, many groups have protested against the NFL and the Washington Redskins, to change their name. Many people believe that Native American nicknames belong in sports. Those people believe that using a Native American name brings tradition and honor to the tribes they support. However, those nicknames are racist and humiliate Indians. Sports teams using Native
Analytical Paper #1 There has been a drastic transformation in the importance of American women and their roles in the last four centuries. The freedom and equality that women possess today was not present in the 1600s. Americans viewed women as a minority and treated them with contempt. Unlike Americans, Native Indians treated their women and the colonial women they kidnapped with more respect, granting them with more pleasant and important tasks.
The Native American Movement in the United States originated from a sense of inferiority and inequality. They were only given citizenship in 1924 but even into the mid 1940s, they were still not treated as full class Americans. In the 1950s, a sense of Indian Nationalism spread among the natives and they began forming groups to promote change for their community. With groups such as AIM, the NCAI and the NIYC heading the movement, they were able to receive a bit of the independence they craved. In 1961, Red Power was coined by the National Indian Youth Council and demonstrations were rampant. The movement notably flourished right after the 1960s Civil Rights Movement, spawning due to a renewed sense of a struggle to let the U.S. follow up on their promises to the native people (Faville). In the summer of 1968, a frustrated group of Native Americans came together for a meeting on discrimination, discussing critical issues surrounding their circumstances. This group, AIM, helped begin the Native American Movement. Through their efforts, Native Americans helped bring an end to Eisenhower’s termination policy in 1958. They also managed to get President Johnson and President Nixon to grant them liberties to receive some of the independence they’s been striving for for decades. The progress made during this era changed the outlook of Native Americans on .
Native Americans suffered hundreds of years of violence, discrimination and forced relocation from their land, during the European invasion of North America. After the Europeans arrive, Indian culture soon became endangered, a culture which developed distinctively shaped tools, sewing needles, clothing, jewelry and weapons. They held strong their own higher cultural beliefs, and legends, retold to them for many generations. During the era of colonization in the United States, Native Americans were subjected to years of despair, of which includes ravaging diseases, conversion to Christianity, European technology, and procurement of native land.
Cultural competence is a skill essential to acquire for healthcare providers, especially nurses. Cooperating effectively and understanding individuals with different backgrounds and traditions enhances the quality of health care provided by hospitals and other medical facilities. One of the many cultures that nurses and other health care providers encounter is the American Indian or Native American culture. There are hundreds of different American Indian Tribes, but their beliefs and values only differ slightly. The culture itself embodies nature. To American Indians, “The Earth is considered to be a living organism- the body of a higher individual, with a will and desire to be well. The Earth is periodically healthy and less healthy, just as human beings are” (Spector, 2009, p. 208). This is why their way of healing and symbolic items are holistic and from nature.
In the beginning the settlers created the heavens and the earth. For, America was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the continent. Why is it that we look at the early settlers with such admiration? We view them like gods, where America didn’t exist until they came along; and, once they finally made it through that first thanksgiving turkey, then only good ever came about because of them. Now, you may be saying to yourself: “Thank goodness I’m more educated than that! I know that they were mortal, and even killed Native Americans sometimes.” But do you know what really happened? Do you actually care about the Native Americans more than just being sorry they’re on reserves?
I would change my books title “Silver The Final Exam is Survival” which was written by Chris Wooding. Even though I can see why the author chose the title and that is why I think he had the wrong reasons behind choosing it. When he had chosen the title he was looking more at the where the book took place and how the main characters were surviving. However, he should have been looking at book as a whole and how the book was taking place This is why I would change the title and make it fit in the guidelines of the books moral, the books main conflicts, and how the characters are effected by this. The reason why I think this is because only half of the title makes since and because the other half of the title has nothing to do with the book overall. This is why I would change the book title to, “Silver The Way to Survive.”
