Jaida Trevethan U.S History/Geography 4th Hour 9/22/16 Native American Experience Essay Looking back on the Native American time period, I've come to a realization that the way all of them adapted to life with how they lived was much different then than how things are today. Going from the way they talked, how they dressed, how education was done, to how they live everyday, etc. I think it's all somewhat different with how people are today in those categories. But some of those things that the Native Americans were used to doing everyday, were being forced to change by different kinds of people. The Native American experience was a genocide act. One of the sings of genocide says that an act is considered genocide if there's "Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group" and in this case, there was. According to the 1775 Phips Proclamation that's based in Massachusetts, one of the Kings in Britain demanded that "'subjects to embrace all opportunities of pursuing, captivating, killing and destroying all of the Indians.'" This quote shows all but nothing sings of genocide towards the Native Americans. According to Article II in the present Convention, a sign of genocide towards an act to destroy (partly or wholly) a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group is showed in this quote with an intention to kill members of a group and in this case, the Native Americans are being targeted as a whole and the British King had intentions on destroying them all. The European settlers also showed signs of racism towards The Native Americans because they were their intention to be eliminated completely and they called them "savages" and I'd assume that took a toll on the Natives mentality being called something their not causing serious mental harm to them which is indeed another sign of genocide because they are treating these human beings as something that's much less than what they are showing an example of …show more content…

In fact, according to Atrocities Against Native Americans, they said that the diseases spread because of the Europeans, cleared out an estimated 90% of the Native American population. Being from different areas, you can probably assume that the immunity of the Native Americans is pretty low against pathogens that came from a different area. Most of them got sick from the animals and ended up with diseases such as the whooping cough, scarlet fever, measles, influenza type B & more.
