In volleyball, I'm on the freshman team and the frosh. It's fun when I get to play but not when I sit on the bench. There is a girl on the lower team and she always gives me glares. Like last night she came to my fall ball softball scrimmage against my coaches baseball team. I had to pitch for them because we were playing by the softball rules. Throughout the scrimmage, she still glared at me. Anyways the opposing team consisted of my teammates that are in my grade. The pitcher, was being really rude and trash talking all the boys because she knows all of them and they are only a grade younger. It made me super mad and we ended up losing from unfair umps and horrible calls. My pitching wasn't that great either. Tomorrow we are getting a puppy and we can't decide on what her name should be. We have been deciding for the past 7 weeks and we still don't have a name. We have picked out a few. She is a teddy bear and we are getting her from a guy in Montezuma. My freshman year of high school has been going good. I like most of my classes but one of my teachers doesn't know how to actually teach us, she is just following the book, having us write down a couple definitions, then giving us an assignment. She has got multiple complaints …show more content…
because we don't know what we are doing. Before I graduate high school I want to make sure I accomplish some things.
A goal of mine is to get accepted in to National Honors Society. I will reach this goal by getting all my work done and studying a lot. Something the board of NHS looks at when you apply is if you have a number of volunteer hours. I hope to get at least 70 before my junior year. In order to get 70, I will use my free time to help teachers or students get jobs done. Another goal would be valedictorian. If I can work hard on every assignment and study for every test to reach at least a 4.0 GPA, I know I will be one of the valedictorians. One last goal would be receiving at least 3 varsity letters from the sports I play. I can get 3 by being a leader on these
teams. Goals for after high school are just as important. When I go to college, not sure where yet, but hopefully we have figured that out by now. I hope to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA or higher so I can get the best job possible. When I graduate getting a job is the most important goal after college for me. After making money, I hope to be able to support myself completely. I can support myself by not wasting money on unnecessary items and saving extra money. If I get enough savings, I would love to go on a mission trip to another country. I plan to accomplish this by getting a group together and start planning. One last goal, living a healthier lifestyle and exercise. I will do this by not eating as much junk food and getting a gym membership. You need to make sure all these goals are accomplished. Go your own way and don't let anyone stop you when your accomplishing these goals. Don't care what people think about you because it doesn't matter what they think. Do you and put yourself first.
Though the practices performed within softball literacy do not immediately seem as if they should be considered a literacy practice, according to two of the six propositions about the nature of literacy, it is. Not only does it involve the physical performance from a play, but also includes formal writings, new rules and regulations, and offer different rules in different countries. I think softball should be counted as a literacy practice because it appeals to Barton and Hamilton’s propositions and includes artifacts that make it a community and artifacts that provide the players with essential people skills.
“Batter up!” the umpire yelled from behind home plate on the diamond-shaped field for the inning to begin. Adrenaline rushed through the players’ veins as the crowd cheering echoed from the bleachers to the outfield. Softball and baseball are team sports which both require an umpire and a diamond shaped field. All players are important. Most aspects of the games are the same. Each team has only nine players on the field at nine different positions. Each inning ends when there are three outs. Baseball generally consists of nine innings, whereas softball usually is played in seven innings. People think that softball is not as tough as baseball because they think that softball is a soft sport. I have been playing softball for about ten years, but prior to that I played baseball. However, the game of softball is on a whole different level. Softball plays require much more speed, and there is a greater possibility of getting injured. The game of softball is more hazardous and fast-paced than baseball.
Softball Softball, what is it for people? Most people see it as just a game, others a way of life and many others believe in something else. Even if you don’t play softball or any sport for that matter. We can all agree that when we find our passion, we find meaning in it. It can impact your life in a good or bad way.
I have played softball ever since the tee ball days. It has been a sport that I have grown to love and couldn’t imagine not playing. The way I have grown up playing softball has changed tremendously from the time it was 1st created in 1887 on Thanksgiving Day. The first time this game was even thought of was when a group of excited men threw a boxing glove to another man who swung a broom trying to hit the boxing glove, like a bat hitting a ball. This group of men, who were all apart of the Farragut boat club, decided they would turn this into a game of their own and softball was born. Although the name softball was not finally decided on until 1926. It was first called indoor baseball. Kitten baseball, or pumpkin ball. Softball didn't grow rapidly until 1933 a softball tournament was set up at the world fair. There were 55 teams in the invent and over 350,000 watching. The game of softball went crazy. Not just in the U.S., but all around the world.
As Paige and I walked across the field towards our team I felt euphoric. Four long years of work, sweat, and dedication had led up to this night. It was the perfect end to my senior year of softball. The scoreboard just beyond the mass of sweaty, screaming softball players read 15-0. This was the final score of the district championship game, a game my team had never won before. The applause and cheers of the fans echoed in my ears for hours afterward
“Softball player, a girl who once steps on the field is transformed from daddy’s little girl into a fierce, unrelenting competitor who will stop at nothing to win a game. Characteristically with dirt stained socks and uniform, ratty hair, bloody knees, and dirt across her face” (Softball).
The women’s baseball league, also known as the All-American Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL), was created by Chicago Cubs team owner, Phillip K. Wrigley. As the league went through its years, only lasting from 1943 until 1954, it went through different ownerships besides Wrigley, such as Arthur Meyerhoff. During the final couple years of the league’s existence, they were individually owned. This league took place around World War II, and with these women playing baseball, it kept the public eye’s attention in order while the majority of men were away fighting. However, even before this league came about, something else stirred up decades after the Civil War happened. This professional league did more than just give women baseball; it helped
All throughout high school I played on the softball team. Proceeding the season before where we went undefeated with a district championship, my senior year we were supposed to be unstoppable. We received a few new players to add on to our army and the entire school was counting on our run to state. I was so excited to have an amazing end to my high school softball career, but unfortunately my dream was cut short when we lost in the first round of districts. I did not know that loss would change me the way it did.
She knew that I was disappointed that I didn’t make varsity. She was just trying to motivate me, but at the time it seemed like she didn’t want me to enjoy my spring break.
We had been waiting all day, we were all ecstatic for practice. It was the last of the season. As soon as the final bell rang, we raced to our locker room to get dressed. I made sure to grab my spikes and was off to our team meeting place. As the team gathered with excitement we saw our coach approaching us with a look of despair. He explained to us that the high school students would be taking over the track for the day and that our last middle school, track and field practice would not be happening. Many of the students were very upset because it was at our school and so therefore it was our track. Many incidents like this have more than likely happened to the swimmers and softball players as well.
Early Saturday mornings start with waking up and getting ready, eating my banana while downing a glass of cold water. Since the age of seven that’s been my Saturday. My Saturdays are like clockwork for me, they never changed. The arrivals at the field were always the same, warm ups started, and shortly after we hit the field awaiting the first pitch to be thrown. We all had red clay in our veins, like we were born to play softball.
Softball has been played for some time now, by many people and by different countries . In fact softball was a creation by a man that also helped give people the idea of baseball as well. Till this very day softball has been apart of the olympics since the early 1990’s . When trying to get softball into the olympics wasn’t as easy as getting baseball into the olympics. The new candidates for the new Olympic softball team can easily help get them back in the game, and maybe make history.
There I was walking to see who made the softball team. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach, worried that I would not make the team. As I looked at the names nervously, I could feel goosebumps appearing on my arms. To my surprise my name was on the list and I could not have been happier.
Goals give you something to measure yourself against and give you direction. Currently, my main goal is to graduate from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree of science in engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering. My anticipated time to graduation is five years with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Beyond getting my bachelor’s degree at East Carolina University, I would like to go to medical school and become a doctor focusing on prosthetics. In order to make my goals a reality, I will have to work diligently to remain on track throughout my schooling. Additional goals that I have set for myself are to complete homework assignments by the time they are due, reading assigned material before it is discussed in class, doing well in each of my courses this semester, successfully participating in extracurricular activities, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, getting a position as an engineer, and becoming a leader within both the engineering community and the general community. A world-class engineering student woul...
I have played softball since my freshman year. Before I entered high school I never played a sport because that was the culture of my household. Growing up my parents didn’t want me to play sports because they feared I would injure myself, and they worried that my teammates would not accept me dressed in my hijab. Still, I wanted to challenge myself and find a group of peers. I discovered I had a talent for the game, and I worked hard to develop it, going to practice at 6 o'clock in the morning and staying after school until 6 or 7 pm. Eventually, I earned my teammates respect and have been captain of the team for the last two years. I was also selected as one of the top 20 catchers in the city. Players and coaches from opposing teams are constantly
