As Olivia was about to go on the court, she saw a scout for the AAU team she always been dreaming about. Her hands were shaking knees turning inwards. She was so ready than ever before even though her body didn't show it. When she got on the court she playing like there was no tomorrow. Olivia was making all her shots, making good passes, and making good plays. She was drenched in sweat. Her coach was so surprised that she let Olivia stay out on the court for the whole game. Although she was tired as can be but she she still brought her A-game out on that court. When her team won she felt proud. Olivia's coach pulled her to the side and said that the AAU team would love to find her. As her coach said the the of team she right away she knew …show more content…
When Olivia Realized she just had been tripped by Sabrina, thoughts just ran through her head. She thought that the past is in the past and that she will forget about all the things that's been going on in school so that it's all about the game. Nobody at all knew what happened because it happened so quickly. Olivia was crying on her knees begging to God that nothing will happen like this again because she felt so embarrassed. Her world felt like it was coming to an end. As she got up from her knees, all the teammates were going up to her to make sure she was doing okay. Olivia couldn't believe the sight of it. On the other hand, Sabrina had her arms crossed, eyes rolling all over the room, and lips puckered.
All that Olivia was thinking about was she has to stay strong and be tough. Their first basketball game was in 2 days. Her leg and knee were pounding with pain like crazy. It was all black and blue but the trooper that she is she still tried to participate in the practice. She was so determined to stay focused on the game and not the pain. With all her strength that was left of her, she went for the lay-up and her leg gave out and she fell flat on her face. Olivia wanted to cry so bad, but she couldn't.Olivia didn't go to school so she can rest her leg and knee for the first
She quickly finished cleaning and went to bed to get some rest, as she lay in bed she turned on her phone and could see that her social media accounts were blowing up with the search for the mystery senior that had Tristan going crazy. The minute that he posted a tweet that said he had her cap almost everyone in the entire school had replied saying it was theirs. This made Armani laugh and thinking nothing of it she replied with a comment “wonder who’s” with that she went to
Joes High School’s total enrollment consisted of sixteen girls, and twenty boys. Ten of the boys that had enrolled there played basketball. All of the boys were over six feet tall. Lane Sullivan, the new coach of the basketball team, had never even touched a basketball before he started coaching. Sullivan had never coached anything at all before he started coaching the Joes basketball team. In order to gain knowledge about the sport, he got a book about it. He started coaching in 1927, but before the 1928 basketball season, Joes High School didn’t even have a gym. Instead, they’d practice outside on a dirt court, and two times a week they’d take a bus to the nearest gym, which was ten miles away. In order to play home games, the boys had to play in the local dance hall. The “court” was nowhere near regulation size, and the ceiling was so short that the boys couldn’t shoot an arched shot. The people who attended these basketball games had no place to sit and watch the game, the all stood around the edges of the court and on the small stage. Joes High School finally got their own gym around Christmas time because the people of Joes donated their time and material in order to make it happen.
I also noticed a pattern with the type of men that Olivia had relationships with. Most of the men in her life used the blamer communication pattern. This was especially with Olivia’s 2nd husband and boyfriend. The both of them were very abusive,
With such encouraging family members and friends, Bethany does not feel pressured to change who she is. After getting home from the hospital, she is welcomed back with open arms by her family. Although there are moments when Bethany feels alone and hopeless due to her disability, her parents and friends are always there for her to turn to for comfort and advice. At one point, Bethany feels as though she has lost everything but her father reassures her that she still has her whole family who loves her so much and is willing to accept her flaws and the decisions she makes. During the competition, Alana sacrifices herself by pushing Bethany’s rival into the waters to avoid her from stealing Bethany’s wave and as a result, is disqualified. This comes to show that no matter what happens, Bethany always has her family and friends by her side and they will always have her back. A movie critic says, “A solid and inspiring story about faith and family” (P.Hanlon). Bethany and her family efficaciously illustrates the true meaning of family love and support in this
Her eyes were heavy, her body weak. As she crawled into the bathroom two feet away, Abby felt her body slowly succumbing to the numbness. All of her pain would be gone in less than 10 minutes, so why would she want to turn back? What about the senior trip Abby had planned with her best friend? What about the chair at the dinner table that would now be vacant? A couple of hours later Abby’s family came home from her little sister’s soccer game. Little did they know what they would find as they approached the top of the stairs. Her little sister, Ali, stood still as she looked down at her feet. There on the cold floor lay her big sister, her role model, and her super hero. Ali was crushed when she saw the pill bottle in her hand and the pale color of her skin. Her mom fell to her knees screaming and crying, wondering where she
Two teams are on the court racing for the ball. The gym is suffocatingly hot and, the students are flailing their arms in the air. The game is a mix of basketball and soccer. Gym class has begun. Blue and yellow jerseys fly throughout the gym with tiny sixth graders inhabiting them. The Yellow team scores and a player picks up the ball forcefully, ready to score once more . The Blue team runs across the gym back and forth like birds stuck in a cage. As the Yellow team scores the heads of the discouraged Blue team hang in disappointment. . The Perspiration is scattered on the bodies of the lively children. The Yellow team begins running for the ball and now looks like a pack of wild animals hunting their prey. They run fiercely towards their victims, each one aiding the next to achieve one goal, to kill. Wisst the sound of the whistle halts the game. Water drips from the water fountain onto the floor . The thirsty children flee the gym. Halftime
Her particularly favorite sport was basketball. She remembers, “We don’t play like you do now. It was three on three. You either played offense or defense. I was defense. I was good, very scrappy,” Connie describes. Now-a-days she enjoys yelling at referees from the stands and giving her two cents on coaches. She has even gotten in a few fights with opposing teams’ parents in the stands. Even with her quirks, Connie Sallquist may seem like an average midwestern, sports-loving woman, but she is far from it. Facing odds that no one thought she could defeat, she proceeded to prove everyone wrong. And unlike most patients, Connie was able to walk out of hospice alive and healthy. She is a true miracle. While her life may not be back to the normal it was a year and a half ago, she’s aspired to a living condition that didn’t seem possible. Connie is loved by everyone she meets. All of her granddaughters friends refer to her as grandma. “Everyone calls me Grandma Connie. I’m everyone’s grandma,” Connie explains. Last year when her granddaughter’s volleyball team found out about Connie’s condition, the entire team donated money towards a bouquet a flowers and a card to send to Connie’s room. A few weeks later, Connie was able to attend her first volleyball game of the season. After the game, every player on the volleyball team came up and talked to her. She knew each and everyone of them, but each of them knew
At the game, she performed much better than other, and after was appreciated by other team players. This incident gave her a thought of playing basketball regularly, and she started devoting her time to the game.
His sister, Olivia, has a hard time too because she wants to have a “normal’ teenager school year without having to deal with people gossiping about her brother's condition. Olivia and her mom are arguing about why olivia didn't invite her parents to see the play at school. Olivia is annoyed and doesn't want to feel ashamed for having a uniquely built brother in her school life because she knows if she had invited them to the play they would have brought august and started conflicts. August overhears them and feels that it's his fault his family goes through what they did and tells them he knows what's going on and it's his fault for being “ugly”. He even says in the book “you're both lying to my face like i'm a idiot… you (Olivia) don't want your brand- new fancy high school friends to knows your brother is a freak…”, This quote is showing how his mom tries to deny what he heard but he knows what he heard. Olivia also feels awful about what she said about her little brother but she had to tell her mother how she felt. August can see from that argument between his family that his mother keeps things from him and he doesn't appreciate that also he finds out that Olivia goes through a lot having an intimidating looking brother and having to be
The heart in my chest is racing faster than formula one cars. I still cannot believe I’m at basketball practice today with an injured ankle running drills as if I’m running for my life. I feel very weak in the knees and hunched over trying to catch my breath without causing too much trouble. Working through the pain because I refuse to deal with my crippling inadequacy issues, I glance over to see one our managers looking at my teammates and me as she is cheering us on. Although with me it was more than a glance. With our eyes, locked, I could see the sympathy in her eyes mixed with low levels of passion.
It was the day before spring break when Ivy heard a scream coming from the girls’ locker room. She ran down the hall, totally forgetting about the math test she had next period. The phone she had stuffed in her pocket right before class, was now in her hand ready to call 911. She opened the door slowly and peaked through the door. Lying on the floor was what appeared to be her best friend Lotus; dead. The next scream that was released through the hallway was hers. Ivy couldn’t believe it, her best friend dead.
Autumn was a dancer. A ballerina to be exact. She loved dance just like her mother. She hid it from her abusive father. And now she was dancing to distract her brother to let others escape to find life. It all played out perfectly. Tyler’s focus was on his sister as she told him how wrong it was to be doing this. Tomás and Fareed had unlocked the auditorium doors and were guiding people out. And Autumn knew she had to keep Tyler distracted. She knew it was life or death now, for her classmates, fellow students, and neighbors. She didn’t understand how such a caring soul could harm someone. But it happened, and she wasn’t able to keep him distracted for long. But it was long enough to get nearly everyone
Down two with six seconds to go fatigue had taken it tolls on the players. With little energy left; over time was not an option. I knew I had to go for the win. I walk on the floor confident of my ability that was until the whistle blew quickly turning my confident to butterflies. As I fought to get open I quickly saw the ball coming my way. As I rose for a jump shot time itself began to stay still. An in flesh everything became silent. As I watch the ball leave my hand I envisioned greatness; sure the ball was on its way in I started to celebrate that was until I hear the announcer say my teammate tip in miss shot to win us the game. Mix with emotion I celebrate with my teammate. “Ok guys, we have 24 hours until tip off. Get some rest because this is going to be the biggest game of your life. Let’s bring this championship back to Barton College. Go Bulldogs and Goodnight!” Why few players stay in the lobby to hang out I took it talk upon to work on my game and reflect on the semifinal game that just took place. At basketball games you will notice how there are all sorts of fans attending the game.
Ave talking to herself " I didn't deserve it, you deserved better." Her conscious was telling her to calm down and get hold of herself " what's done, been done. It is the past now.tell Jessie about it and you will feel better " she stepped out and then continued from where she left.
The teachers come, a large man begins CPR while the girl remains benevolent, in a matronly position, kneeling and cradling Al’s head in the cushion of her palms. Through it all she does not look up, even when spurts of blood from Al’s mouth reach her face and eyes, that blood built up within his orifice gurgling and geysering with each push of the teacher’s fists into his lungs. She does not turn from her grisly heroic task, though her arms shake from restraining and then supporting Al’s head, as she calmly reassures others that it will be all right. After seeing Al safely away with the EMTs, she takes only a few moments to collect herself, then, claiming no credit...
