My new adventure

It was the perfect day, and there was nowhere else I would rather be. It was one of those days that you wish would never end. A time when you had absolutely no worries in the world. I could have stayed at the beach forever. So far I had spent the whole morning laying in the warm sunshine. The only sounds where of the waves crashing towards the shore. All of my friends sat there quietly beside me. The girls were sitting there reading their books or laying in the sun, and the guys had just sat down to rest from kayaking. I was relaxed so much to the point that I could fall asleep.
“Hey Amber, you want to try kayaking?” Danny said.
I thought about it for a minute. Kayaking always looked like so much fun to me. I’m always amazed how people can make things like kayaking seem effortless and easy. But, athletic is not a word I would use to describe me. At that moment, there were so many questions going through my head. What if I get hurt? Is it worth all the effort and time? Will I regret it if I don’t try?
“Alright I’ll give it a try, but I can’t guarantee I’ll be any good at it,” I said.
Then, I slowly stood up and looked at the two kayaks. One was neon green and the other neon orange. To be honest they both looked the same to me. Which one should I choose? I guess had that puzzled look on my face.
“Alright! You might want to use the green one first because it is made specifically for kayaking on the ocean. Bring the kayak to the water and me and Danny will show you what to do,” Eric said.
“I’m still not sure about this.”
“Oh, you’ll be fine don’t worry. Just do exactly as we say,” he said.
I just nodded and grabbed the neon green kayak. By the time I had dragged the heavy kayak half way to the shore I wasn’t sure if ...

... going to get the hang of this if it took me all day. I got back in my kayak and started the process all over again. That old saying about practice makes perfect really true, and I learned that first hand that day. A few bruises and crashes later I finally got the hang of kayaking. Now it wasn’t a matter of learning something new. I finally got to enjoy paddling out, and waiting for that perfect wave to come along, and the thrill of riding it all the way to shore. Even a few times while I was waiting for a good wave to come a long, I seen dolphins swimming about a foot away from me. That was a day I will never forget. So not only did I learn how to kayak, but I also learned that sometimes being brave and trying new things pays off. Even though the day didn’t go as I planned, honestly I thought it really turned out better. I found something that I truly loved doing.
