Self-reflection journals have provided me with a solid learning opportunity and have allowed for me to grow and develop as a writer. The journal writings allowed me to reflect on the different course components that I received in this course. The biggest course goal the self-reflection journals helped me to achieve is they allowed me to engage in informal writing to analyze and critically reflect on the lessons I learned as well as my implementation of them. They proved to be a valuable tool for me, because they added a process to my learning experience that I would not have engaged in otherwise. For example, usually when I learn material I am then asked to implement or demonstrate its use in some fashion whether it be by a writing assignment, quiz, etc. …show more content…
However, the self-reflection journal took this further. It provided me an opportunity to think about how I wrote before the lesson and how my writing has been enhanced. It gave me an opportunity to see what I had been doing right and what I needed to improve upon. I've often heard of the value that journals can generally bring into ones life. This specific use of a self-reflection journal definitely reinforced what I have heard. As a result, I am hoping to continue to use self-reflection journals in my other courses and in my life experiences, as well. I can tell my retention of the lessons and the material is enhanced and it seems to create a lasting impression on my overall knowledge of the subject
Most of us write in some form every day, so you would expect that most of us would be well practiced and pretty good at writing. I read and write all the time; I have been taken several college courses and nearly all of them require write of some form. However, before taking this class not only was I not a good writer, I knew I wasn’t a good writer. Now I am not saying that I am ready to write my first novel, but I certainly more confident in turning in my college papers. The content of this course and the style of teaching was incredibly beneficial to me. Throughout this course we had multiple assignments that were aimed to improve us as writers. I am sure that everyone took something different from this course, and I am sure that each student took more from some areas than others; however for me there were three major things that I saw that I benefited from most. Our weekly craft lessons, grammar plan, but most of all, observational learning.
It had helped the student but others may think it is not important and may be confusing to students but that is not true. For instance “ Teachers realized that they needed to spend time teaching students how to reflect. They asked students, "What does a reflection look like when it really tells you something about the experience?" After considerable discussion—and after considering models of reflection from students and published authors—the students began to understand what was called for. Reflection was not a time for testimonials about how good or bad the experience was. Instead, reflection was the time to consider what was learned from the experience. Reflection was a time to describe what students saw in their own work that changed, needed to change, or might need to be described so another person might understand its meaning.” Even though it was hard at first for the teachers to teach their students how to reflect they wanted the students to reflect on what was learned from the experience. Reflection had to be something more dynamic than just looking at the good and bad. Therefore literacy leads to reflection and as a result can allow one to achieve their own
After doing LSA 3 and 4, which were interview template and biography, I understood what I had to do for MWA2. At this point, my understanding of Rhetorical Situation and Genre(SLO A)(SLO A) were vastly broadened, I could now analyze, compose, and create any arguments and situation and on any topic. Another paper was also due at the same time when MWA1 was due the Reflection paper where we had to reflect what we wrote like what I thought my audience expected of me ,what piece of information from my memoir will be most interesting to them and so on. I was given an opportunity to reflect on my writing and what I learned by writing the assignment. When I reflected my writing I realized my mistakes the major mistake I did was I first did the memoir and then I tried to find out my audiences ,tone and other but what I had to do was the exact opposite and then I remembered my in class assignments where I had already learned this things so I had to do the whole memoir again. It also pointed out some of the other errors I had in my writing. After knowing this, I am confident that these mistakes will not repeat again. In the beginning of English 101 I was what you call a novice writer a person who only wrote what they felt was required. However, certain techniques that I learned in English 101 made me realize that writing was not about filling requirements; it’s about speaking out, exploring and proving a point. “Writing is an exploration. You start from nothing and learn as you go.” (Trimble, 17) In John Trimble’s quote he tries to point out that writing is something that you grow with and learn as you go along. It was a task that took a significant amount of time and effort, but was truly an excellent learning experience. I found it intriguing how much the original essay can improve or modify over time; moreover, how different ideas flow through your brain each second. The revision of my essays taught me an enormous deal about writing and was genuinely pleasurable to do.

Most people question the purpose of writing a journal. People who write a journal keep it to fulfill a basic human need – “self expression and reflection” (Sagan 1). In final analysis, my writing has greatly improved during this semester, and having looked at the area's I most need to work on has given me an awareness of what my weaknesses are. Examining what I have learned and what I need to learn allows me to generate a strategy to fortify my writing skills. Critiquing my own work has given me insight into how my writing is progressing in this class and allowed me to see short comings I had missed previously. Self-evaluation is a helpful tool for anyone who wants to continue to learn what areas they can improve upon and how much progress they are making. I believe those who appraise their own work will have a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses then those who do not evaluate themselves.
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work in see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded. Some of the skills I had shocked me as I didn’t think I had those capabilities in me.
Journaling helps shift your perception of what is going on around you and allows us to see things as they truly are. It is often so difficult to measure, gauge, analyze or understand why you are feeling the way you are feeling and getting your feelings out on paper will help you not turn to food.
Psychology deals with the study of mental processes and a variety of behaviors. In order to fully comprehend ourselves, we need to understand the causes of our behaviors and our outlook on life. Habits and behaviors have positive and negative effects in our life. When we know ourselves and learn about our unique personality, we can develop and pursue goals. Psychology also helps us to understand other people and the differences of people. Gaining this knowledge can improve the relationships and enhance our communication skills. Throughout the psychology course I gained knowledge in various areas, and the topics that impacted me the most included: the introvert, anxiety disorders, stress management, self discipline and how to develop strong relationships.

During this College Composition course, I came across numerous obstacles and educational involvements. Every factor of this course contributed to my overall learning experience. For starters, we often read out of our textbooks, “The Little Seagull Handbook” and “They Say I Say”. These books helped showcase proper writing techniques. In addition, we would have class discussions that everyone would participate in. This opened my eyes to different viewpoints that could influence my writing. I recall one class we had a debate over a topic and everyone had to choose a side to argue. Then when we wrote argument essays, even though they were on a different topic, it helped me view my topic in different ways. Lastly, the most helpful to my writing was peer review. We were told to read our paper out loud to our partner. Although personally I am quiet and dislike reading out loud, I found this very helpful. Instantly, my partner and I could find grammar mistakes that one may not pick up on while reading silently. Then we could also talk about other possible revisions for my paper. For every paper, we would have conferences with the professor. This was effective as well to have a professional giving corrections and ideas. It is the start of a new year and I thought I would start a journal chronicling my daily experiences. Tonight we decided to go to the local F.O.P. lodge to a New Years Eve party. We had a pretty good time but what happened later that evening is something that I hope I don’t forget for a long time to come. Still fresh in my mind was the conversation Angela and I had on Christmas night. She was hinting that she wasn’t sure if she wanted to be in a serious relationship this soon after the breakup of her previous one. If that wasn’t hard enough on Christmas she also was to ill to attend my brothers wedding with me in Madison Indiana . To add to all the confusion in my head, on my way home I stopped and got her a rose and a “happy New Years” balloon. She seemed quite touched by the gesture but also visibly troubled by it. I asked her if she was ready to have a good time tonight and she said “I was but now I don’t know.” Now what in the world does that mean! I tried applying all sorts of significant meanings to that statement but in the end I decided to just let it go and let events unfold as they would. Fast forward to 2 minutes before midnight. Angela is an absolute goddess, she is very beautiful and one of the nicest, sweetest woman I have ever met, but she is not one given to affection, especially public affection. Well at 2 minutes till she laid a kiss on me that lasted well after midnight. She absolutely blew me away!! The rest of the night was nice, we went to a couple more clubs but that moment is burned into my memory. Everything else paled in comparison. I don’t know if it is possible but I think I kissed her with my heart as well as my lips. I have heard of your “minds eye”, but tonight I found my “hearts mouth”.................
