Throughout this semester, my education classes have coincided well with what I am observing in the classroom. Standard 4 is all about the educator having a strong grasp on not only the content area that he/she is teaching, but also effective classroom management and techniques to relate the information to each students’ individual situation. My cooperating teacher has done a great job of exemplifying this standard by thinking in a metacognitive manner about what she is teaching and how she teaches the content. There are always open ended questions that allow students to offer their perspective in relation to the content. My cooperating teacher also introduces all of the works that the classes cover and emphasized how they relate to the student’s position. The students then respond with curiosity and excitement because they are able to see that it truly does matter.
A huge topic this semester, no doubt due to standard 6, has been assessment in education. I have had the opportunity to observe a classroom that received “Chromebooks” and operates through a Google Classroom. Throughout this platform, students have the autonomy to take quizzes and write journals in the classroom and at home if they have a personal computer. Students not only took tests on the books that they were

However, having the opportunity to work one on one with an educator who has excellent lesson plans, my fears are absolutely calmed. My cooperating teacher started with the large novels and works, then moved on to the smaller works and mini-lessons that corresponded with what the students were taking part in. One research based teaching strategy that I have seen work successfully in a classroom is when my cooperating teacher paid specific attention to the multiple intelligences in her classroom. The students were engaged due to the differentiated education and were able to take part in meaningful learning
After shoving all the books, folders, binders, workbooks, pencil bags, a backpack, a coat, and addition items into the locker, barely any room remains. This usually resorts in the demolishing of expensive textbooks by students which is highly wasteful. This is one prime reason chromebooks were seeked out by school districts and welcomed by so many. The chromebook is lightweight, usually weighing approximately 3 pounds, is very slim in size, and is generally eleven to twelve inches in length (Chromebooks and Education: A Perfect Match). One may conclude the chromebook is merely another pricey item to place in a student’s locker, but the chromebook actually allows for students to have online textbooks, email, additional Apps, and a Google Docs. These features may seem miniscule, but to users the chromebook combines all the necessities into one small device. All of the tools that could be found in a student’s locker can be found on the chromebook which makes life a lot easier for students to transport and organize. This feature makes the chromebook desired by many including the school because less money is spent purchasing new textbooks for students, and by the students because instead of having to lug around textbooks, folders, and binders from classroom to classroom, only a chromebook is
Classroom Environment A general population third grade class was observed to further understand the psychological aspect of teaching. The Title I school classroom observed has sixteen students, eight girls and eight boys, and is almost entirely made up of students from a low socioeconomic status (SES). The desks are arranged with one large horseshoe and two rows of desks inside the horseshoe shape. The teacher has made adjustments to seating assignments and layout due to student behavior and feedback.
In a classroom, the class is a single unit, and teachers teach to the class’s needs, rather than to each individual students’ needs. I enjoy being able to work individually with students in order to cater my teaching toward each one’s specific needs so that I can instill them with passion for each subject.
I listen to my students. I allow time for their individual impute in what they are learning, and adjust accordingly. I really believe that is why students can be so into the idea of being taught, because they are all encouraged to lead the discussion and projects before them as it relates to the curriculum. I try to learn from my students by listening to their interpretation. I am learning what interest them, and feed off of it in the work that needs to be performed. Work towards a positive social society, with this education does takes place for our students, teachers, and community, all for a better future, one that is full of knowledge and acceptance. What could be any
Teacher knowledge has always been the basis to an effective learning experience. Without a knowledgeable teacher, students are not able to receive a quality educational experience. This pillar encompasses the influence teachers have on student learning and achievement, possession of research based knowledge, and effective teaching practices. I thrive to be educated and knowledgeable on the information presented to my students. By having a variety of teaching techniques that work and I use often in my classroom, I am able to mold my instruction around student needs and provide efficient and
The classroom observation took place in Chaira’s class at Early Education Center (EEC) in Highland, NY. Chaira class is a self contain (Full day center-based special) class that consist of 12 children, 2 assistant teachers and 2 one to one aides. The age range for this class is from 3 ½-5 years old. EEC starts at 8:45am and ends at 2:30pm. The staff is very friendly and caring to the children. I arrived EEC at 8:30am and talk briefly with the teacher. She discussed the agenda for the class. She invited me to interact with the children in the class. This allowed me to observe and get hands on experience working with preschool children.
In today’s classroom, the teacher is no longer viewed as the sole custodian of knowledge. The role of a teacher has evolved into being amongst one of the sources of information allowing students to become active learners, whilst developing and widening their skills. Needless to say, learning has no borders – even for the teacher. One of the strongest beliefs which I cling to with regards to teaching is that, teaching never stops and a teacher must always possess the same eagerness as a student. Through several interactions with other teachers, I always strive for new ideas, techniques, teaching styles and strategies that I might add to my pedagogical knowledge. Furthermore, through personal reflection, feedback and evaluation...
This standard expresses the importance of supporting students so they can meet higher standards. Teachers will support students by having knowledge of all of the different areas of teaching and with a strong curriculum that targets everyone. I understand how important it is to help my students meet their personal learning goals through my teachings. I will be organized and simple english and instructions in each and all of my lesson plans. I will also take into consideration the different backgrounds that my students will have and how that may impact the way they learn.
My teaching career has been spent learning how to provide appropriate support, guidance, patience, & understanding, as well as to enhance academic growth & success, for all students. My purpose as a teacher is to enrich and inspire the lives of young students with moderate/intensive needs by providing access to information instead of functioning as the primary source of information for students to flourish. My teaching methods will be to create an environment ripe with opportunities for discovery and exploration which will allow all students to learn at their own pace, generate questions and construct knowledge, while providing hands-on practice of skills in authentic situations as well as to make learning intriguing and meaningful to all students. Carefully planned and constructed learning environment will also allow the teacher more time to meet the individual needs of each student. Another important factor to a well-prepared learning environment is to facilitate learning, and providing students with balance and consistency (2004). Young students require a balance between various classroom dimensions, including activities guided by the teacher and independent work, quiet work and active work, gross motor and fine motor activities, and open and closed aspects to the curriculum and classroom materials (2004). Consistency is also a required condition for learner success. Schedules (daily and weekly), the enforcement of classroom rules, and student expectations should not be in flux but remain consistent. Without a sense of consistency in the classroom, school life would lack the necessary feeling of safety and reliability young children need to focus, to take risks, and to t...
I try to talk to a teacher everyday about different topics. By talking with other teachers who are in there first-year teachers or seasoned teachers they have different ways of seeing thing. These teachers give me a different thought on how to do certain lessons. I realized my classroom setting is different due to how low my students are compared to the rest, but they really helped me to understand how to bring common core standards down to the level that my students need to learn. Like I said before, I can be doing 4 different lessons at the same time, but we 're all still doing a main theme. Whether it 's adding subtracting or reading comprehension, we 're all looking for the characters or the setting. These teachers are extremely helpful to me to be successful within my
The teacher that I observed was Mrs. Cynthia Carney. She is the kindergarten teacher at Greystone Elementary school. As my first time in the classroom, I tried to observe as much as possible. I had a great first impression of the classroom, it is a very positive environment, and the teacher has definitely established a clear routine and rules that the students follow. The teacher did a very brief (5-10 minute) science lesson/introduction to the unit on weather. Although the teacher did not inform my partner and I about the exact objectives for the lesson, it was clear that she wanted the students to learn about making observations about weather. Her objective
Over the course of observations, I learned that there is no one way to do anything in teaching. After a few weeks of observing, I was relieved because I thought that I could stop worrying so much about doing the “right” thing with the students. I saw a successful teacher doing, or neglecting to do things that went against what I had been taught. I incorrectly assumed that the choices the teacher made about how to organize the day, approach a lesson, or manage the classroom were mostly a matter of personal preference and that several approaches would produce equally desirable results.
We spoke about the children in the classroom who have personalities and learning styles that are unique to them. Building a relationship with each child, gives her the opportunity to gain the necessary knowledge to create lesson plans that are relatable to their personalities and learning styles. Her association with the children impacts their feelings of safety and security which relates to their ability to interact and learn in the classroom. Another advantage my cooperating teacher spoke about is the fact she has known many of the children since they were babies. She has witnessed them grow, develop personalities, and learning
My cooperating teacher has a very good classroom management; it was really obvious in her way of speaking. Classroom management is also one thing that I must learn. I should learn to make the learner’s environment clear from anything that can distract them from learning. Classroom management involves the discipline that also plays a vital role in the learning of the students. Discipline is composed of set of rules and regulation that everyone inside a room should follow to achieve the best learning. A well organized classroom is a key to deliver and present the lesson properly and effectively. She started her lesson with her motivational activity and she caught the interest of her students. She is very creative and she use educational technology in teaching. The discussion proper was a good one, the topic was about special product. The students were listening and reciting actively. She has also a sense of humor, she tell joke that make her student
For my observation experience I went to Southern High School in Harwood, MD. Southern High School has a special education department for the students with disabilities. The teacher that I met with for this classroom observation was Ms. West. In the classroom there were at least four assistant teachers that helped Ms. West throughout the school day. The assistant teachers helped Ms. West co- teach the class and were there to help the students if they needed extra help. The school also has a couple of student aides that come in to help the teachers and the students in the classroom. There were at least twelve students in the classroom. The students in the class had many different exceptionalities such as learning disabilities, Down syndrome,
