The major point I care about and my philosophy of education is centered on children living a healthy life style. When I talk about a healthy life style I mainly am referring to schools taking the steps to providing children with physical education. I believe schools should provide physical education because it provides the opportunity to excel, it provides the students to have the connection to their peers and it mainly provides the exercise that the children aren’t getting today through the disappearance and cutting of the physical education programs. The reason why I am passionate about putting or keeping P.E. back into schools is because of my prior knowledge and experience of P.E through out my years in school. Through school I have seen the effects of extra curricular activity and P.E could do in my life and other people lives. The effects P.E. had on me was physical education gave me the opportunity to excel. Through the years of elementary, middle school and even high school I had average grades along the way. I tried extremely hard in school and did well but school did not come easy and had my struggles along the way. However P.E. gave me the opportunity to excel in other thing outside the classroom. I believe finding a talent as a child cane increase a students self esteem and self efficacy. The next point I would like to touch upon would be that children aren’t getting enough exercise they need. Those qualities discussed and I believe important are giving the students an opportunity to excel, it provides the students to have social skills needed and provides the exercise that children need daily by physical education. That why it is important to keep physical education in school systems intact for the benefits of the students.

When a teacher stops caring a student stops caring because they believe the teacher does not care about them or their education. Rose said “you 're defined by your school as slow”(155). This paper examines the issues associated to the disengagement of students in the health and physical education domain. Typically traditional curriculums have shown to foster anxiety and create undesirable competition amongst students through fitness testing. It is critical to understand the reasons behind the issues of why students are disengaging in the participation of physical education, as the sedentary behavior is becoming a major factor in the obesity epidemic.
For the first time in years, schools are considering imposing an extra mandatory class on students with the hopes of solving a deadly problem; however, it could be causing more problems rather than diminishing it. A statistic recently released by the Kaiser Family Foundation, has stated that in America, 31.3% of 10-17 year olds are either obese or overweight. To combat this issue, The President’s Council on Physical Fitness has introduced a proposal that would require every high school in the United States to have a daily and mandatory physical education class in order to promote healthy lifestyle choices. Very few states require P.E. daily for high school students; however, many states are considering adopting the proposal. Doing so seemed like a great way to combat the growing problem until I thoroughly researched the topic and found that the negatives outweighed the possible positives. Calvin Christian adopting the proposal created by the President’s Council on Physical Fitness regarding mandatory daily P.E. classes would be a huge mistake due to the negative effect on student’s physical and emotional health, the likelihood of an increased budget, and the possible cut of valued classes.
Schools serve as an amazing venue to provide students with everyday physical movement, and to instruct the essentialness of general physical action for wellbeing. Shockingly, most individuals' get little to no general physical activity while in school. Budgetary obligations and the pressure to increase test scores have brought on school authorities to address the worth of PE and other physical activity programs. This has prompted a significant lessening in the time accessible for PE, and in a few cases, school-based physical action projects have been totally eliminated.
Throughout peoples childhood they are encouraged to be active, get involved and try their hardest. As they grow, they are told to focus on school, but spend most of our their time participating in extracurricular activities. How are kids supposed to put all their focus on academics if they have to spend all their time on athletics in hope of a scholarship? This is one of the reason kids do not always focus and perform like they should in class. Athletics is hurting the school system by taking away money from academics, giving athletes more privileges than nonathletic students, and it is effecting the outcome of students.
Lastly, the textbook states that “A high-quality physical-education program parallels whole-child education. While the main focus is on physical development (psychomotor), it also addresses the knowledge (cognitive) and social (affective) aspects of the child”
When we talk about education, we remember our teachers of elementary, middle and high school because they left their mark on our lives, and are who we truly taught things that even we , and we have to our knowledge, is that the main purpose of my philosophy educational. The basis of my educational philosophy pragmatism. The goal of education for pragmatists is the socialization of the individual and the transmission of cultural ideas of man to new generations. In this way, new generations have no need to repeat it step by step, the experiences of their ancestors (Riestra, 1970). The school must be active in developing critical thinking in the learner. This should not be a passive entity in the process of their education, you must learn to learn . The school must prepare students for this interaction with their environment that is always changing.
The value of physical education P.E. teachers bring to schools and their students. P.E. has an effect on everyday life. With this in mind I feel P.E. is highly valuable. Physical education activities have development in mind. Children can participate in a variety of activities and are encouraged to achieve overall wellness by continuously staying active.
Over the past decades our culture has changes dramatically. To which our nation was once a physically active nation. Yet now it seems that society discourages physical activity. The human race has been dependent on automobiles, discouraging people to walk or bike, increasing the chance of a poor life-style. Yet there are many factors that affect the achievement and maintenance of a healthy life. Young people are growing into a diverse society, which is characterized by rapid change, inactive work and leisure practices that influence unhealthy behaviors. By incorporating physical activity into peoples daily routine will increase their chances of being healthier, reducing certain diseases and learning how to avoid injuries. Physical education helps students improve their knowledge about health issues and practices that will lead to a more enjoyable life. Students playing and working in a team together develop social skills, teamwork, achieving goals, and development of self-esteem. Overall physical education provides the potential for a better life style.
Childhood obesity poses a serious threat to the health of our nation, children these days have little to none outdoors activities. Lack of physical activity found to be a significant factor in contributing to childhood obesity. It is very probable that the only outdoors activity that children have now is a P.E. class at school if the school offers it. It doesn’t help that most schools in the United States have had physical activities and recess programs removed from the school. In the article Physical activity and childhood obesity: strategies and solutions for schools and parents the author states, “During active class time, physical educators can look to the teachable moment in which they can talk to an entire class concerning individual differences. Just as the teaching of good sportsmanship should be an essential component of all elementary physical education programs, the recognition of obese and overweight children should be taught so that children become sensitive to the thoughts and feelings of others”.
Opponents of physical education in schools state that gym is not the best way to utilize students’ time. Students’ should be given the choice to participate in gym class or not because many students aren’t as athletic and don’t enjoy it enough to want to do it in school. Despite this downfall, PE is important in students’ life and even though some don’t enjoy it as much, they need it in order to be successful in life. If not, diseases and health risks could come up and it wouldn’t be robust. Ultimately, physical education provides superior benefits.
My Philosophy Statement Education is a very important aspect of our lives. It is our education that makes us who we are and determines what we become. Therefore, education is not something to be taken lightly. As a teacher, my goal is to provide the best possible education for my students. Every student is unique and unique.
Denise Amos later communicates in her article, "Physical education classes nationwide are switching focus toward fitness knowledge and encouraging healthy lifestyles and away from fitness competition and tests of endurance. In short, fewer teachers are forcing children to climb ropes or toss heavy medicine balls, and may no longer pit one student or group of students against another for a grade." (jacksonsville.com). Actions such as these ones are helping to make a correct shift in the way that academics and physical education in schools should be. With given time as well, an elimination of grades within fields like this one would hopefully help to influence students to want to dive into a life of fitness, educating themselves through school funded programs such as these, and in the end only benefit by being able to get taught how to live healthier lifestyles. This type of system is backed later in the article when the author states, "PE teachers today have much higher expectations. It 's more of a learning environment. We want kids to learn about their own personal fitness and to make decisions about that. And we want them to learn about their motor skills." (jacksonville.com). In a case with a system like this, where the focus is on the education itself, students are more likely to take interest and succeed. Students will feel a great weight lifted off their shoulders and be able to perform tasks at their greatest potential. They will gain more of a hands on style of education by incorporating in the case of physical education both physical activity, as well as classroom studies, which both have the purpose of teaching the students on how to live healthier lifestyles which can lead them down a more enjoyable learning
