My Life, My Fantasy, My Philosophy - Descartes' Fourth Meditation, Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, Sir Francis Bacon's The Four Idols, and Walt Disney
Every day is a process of discovery, and I have stumbled upon one about myself: I am a hypocrite; I live in a world of hypocrites, and here, on this earth, lies not one soul who can live happily otherwise. We have developed a defense mechanism against all that is unknown in this world and acquired a false sense of security of having control and actually knowing how it is that this world works. We protect ourselves by lying, by acting as if we are actually doing that which separates us from the animal world: questioning, analyzing, and searching for life’s truths. We pretend that we analyze nature’s cycle and search for the light of truth when in fact; we simply ask the questions that uphold our own ignorant, single minded truths. Man kind has conducted this simulation of interest and inquiry by yielding to predisposed beliefs and lying to themselves about what they truly believe. We are all actors of the greatest kind, the kind that never realize they are acting, and what’s more, we are part of the grandest production on the earth: Life.
When I was a little girl, I remember staring into a pink, miniature Disney Princess Collection bowl full of chicken and onions and deciding I did not like onions, even before I had ever tried them. Yet, my parents forced a sliver of purple onion in my mouth insisting there was no possible way I could be certain of my decision without first trying a piece of that particular onion. The crisp, crunchy, cool veggie danced down my throat engulfing my nasal cavities in a warm, pleasant sensation. “I hate it!” I yelled while rubbing my wet tongu...

...be asked of this grand production: why are we acting? It might seem as though we are being foolishly ignorant and throwing away the opportunity to fully and passionately seek out truth and once and for all be rid of our superficial mindsets, but that will never be. In the first place, man will never be capable to see the world with open and unbiased eyes, and secondly it is probably best that he doesn’t. The world needs childlike trust and hopefulness, it needs the ability to believe in something greater than itself, it needs the opportunity to foolishly and whole-heartedly believe in something that brings joy into its heart. There are certain personal and world truths that individuals should strive to understand simply to have a greater knowledge of life, but realism can cast a cruel hand on imagination and freedom that no human being should be held captive to.
Man has always been driven to create. We constantly shape the world around us by inventing stories of heroes and monsters, by crafting complex but passionate ideals about good and evil. Some relish in the power that this manipulation of reality wields; others are more innocent in that they are simply yielding to a universal longing for something in which to believe.
Many people in the world get into an almost unbreakable routine, shielding themselves from the real world. We wake up, brush our teeth, go to school with the same people, go home, and do it all over again. Once there is a roadblock in the way, it forces us to step outside our shell and look at others views for a change. American mythologist, writer, and lecturer,Joseph Campbell once said,”We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.” It is the act of noticing others words and actions that will reshape our lives for the better. In “Secret Samantha” and “Sol Painting, Inc.” the authors suggest that observing someone else’s perspective and taking the time to understand others can be mankind's greatest
Many have condemned realist art for “sacrificing beauty for exactitude and obviating conceptual integrity if favour of in-your-face reality”. They argue that the glorification of ordinary, banal subjects may in fact be a pathetic attempt to ignore the drab realities of contemporary life by attempting to ‘spice up’ commonplace objects. Perhaps they think that modern technology and flashy photographical equipment defeats the purpose of original realist art, and provides a far more accurate reproduction of contemporary life. I however, beg to differ. For the realist artist, the vast world is their subject and their aim is to present this world through their art in what they see as their honest representation of it. To label realism as obsolete is to call these artists’ sincere opinions obsolete. People often fail to remember that the world is constantly changing and the ‘ordinary’ doesn’t always remain so. The writer J.P. Stern remarked once that realism is “the creative acknowledgment of the data of social life at a recognisable moment in history”. True, photography and digital technology may produce a more accurate reproduction of real life but representation-wise, a genuine hand-made artwork may in fact offer a far more meaningful result- not merely due to the allowance for modification and
Man's fundamental bewilderment and confusion, stems from the fact that man has no answers to the basic existential questions: why we are alive, why we have to die, why there is injustice and suffering, all this serve as the impetus for such a thinking. Man constantly wonders about the truth of life and realizes that the more you expect from it, the more it fails you or may be the more we expect from ourselves the more we find ourselves engaging in a futile battle with the odds. May be the truth is the realization of our limitations and the potency of these odds that press you down with their brutal truths….….brutal?, can the truth be brutal. But the truth is the God, ourselves, the destiny that rules us and fashions us, after a strange decree which we fail to unravel.
My beliefs are important to me. I wake up every morning with a cup of coffee in my hand and turn on the daily news. I see many problems occurring around the world, but most of us are too blind to actually do something to help. We are too blinded by our society's cultural that we can’t separate ourselves from the good and bad.
should live in a world that is realistic, recognizing the amplitude of our capabilities as well as our
Worldview is how you view the world around you and your place in it. Obviously a worldview is shaped and expanded over the course of a lifetime by many different influences. It is important to really examine your worldview and support it using many viewpoints. This paper will be made up of three parts all incorporating my worldview. In the first part I will explain my worldview in detail. In the second part I will be comparing my worldview to another. Finally, in the third part I will use my worldview to support my stance on an ethical dilemma of abortion.
We are all about the world. More often than not, we rarely take time to see the beauty of this creative tension emerging from differences and oppositions. Perhaps if we do, we will consciously work towards the full.
Reading and writing has always played a vital part in my life. From toddler to adult, pre-elementary to college, I’ve managed to sharpen both skills to my liking. However, even though it significantly helped, schooling was not what influenced me to continue developing those skills into talent. Many different things shaped and influenced my learning, and now reading and writing have become the safety net of my life. I know that even if I have nothing else in the future, I’ll still have my talent and knowledge. To ensure my success, I hope to further develop those skills so that I may fulfill my wishes.
Many time periods have set the bar high for today’s authors, such as the revolutionary time in Europe when Realism was brought into play. More specifically, the creation of Realism has inspired authors and artists alike to create a sense of honesty and reality within their works of fiction. Realism has set the standard for literature and art, all around the world, because of ...
What is meant by Metaphysics? Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy that deals with the nature of reality, including the relationship between mind and matter, substance and attribute, fact and value.
My childhood molded and prepared me for adulthood, there was tremendous growth for me between childhood to adulthood. My childhood made me the person I am today. The events that took place in my childhood inspired me to be a better person in my adulthood. Through my stages of growth from childhood to adulthood my responsibilities have shifted, worry and stress differ and emotions have fluctuated to make me the person I am today.
I’m going to write about my past life and how it has influenced me now that I am older. Most of the bad things I did and most of the good things I did while I was growing up.
I never really thought about where my life was going. I always believed life took me where I wanted to go, I never thought that I was the one who took myself were I wanted to go. Once I entered high school I changed the way I thought. This is why I chose to go to college. I believe that college will give me the keys to unlock the doors of life. This way I can choose for myself where I go instead of someone choosing for me.
During my life, I have learned many things that I’m either expected to do or know. My family and friends have impacted my life in multiple ways that have shaped me as a person over time. These values that my family has taught me has made me the person I am today and most likely the person I will be for the rest of my life.
