My Letter To Grandma

“Dear Grandma...” or “LOL grandma just sent me a selfie” My generation went from writing letters and cards for grandma to hang on the fridge, to sending a text just by speaking the words to the phone. Communication through the years has evolved from formal to informal. The effort and feeling put into communicating when I was a child, does not play a role in society today. The world we live in today is about how quick we can send a message out. I often think of how I learned how to write a letter, reading letters and being excited about the mail I would receive, and the most important mail I have ever received.

Held up by magnets shaped in different animals hung all the letter I had written my grandma. Some were just pictures I had drawn; some were notes that read how much I loved her or how she was the best grandma ever. As time went by, our writing letters never died. However, Grandma got sick, and she lost the ability to speak. Of course I was saddened by this, but I found comfort knowing that our communication was not completely gone. We would still write to each other. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worst, and she passed away when I was in the fifth grade. It took a while for me to get over her passing, and I would think about it frequently. Time continued to pass and it was my sixteenth birthday. That day I woke up to every gift I asked for, but the best gift I received no amount of money could buy On my dresser sat a teal colored envelope with my name on it. I could immediately tell whose writing was on it. My grandmothers. I was confused. How was this even possible? I asked my mom, and she told me my grandma had written the letter before she passed. She told my mom to hold on to the letter until my sixteenth birthday. That was best letter anyone could ever give
