People are always asking others who they look up to, a question that a lot of people can’t answer. A hero can be someone who has helped you, people you don't know, or both. A hero can save lives or they can just do their best to be caring towards someone. My hero might not save lives, but he tries his best to help others. It's important to do things to the best of your ability, and that is exactly what my Uncle does. The first reason that my Uncle Mike is my hero is because of the skills he taught me for running. He taught me how to get a better start when running and how to keep my pace. Pace is important for running so keeping a pace is important to do. My uncle mike and I used to always run together before he moved away. We would run 5k’s together for different programs. One program was Girls On The Run. one of my best running times was with my Uncle. My Uncle Mike ran with me and pushed me to do better and not to walk. One 5k I ran with my Uncle was the Midland Dow Run, we ran that 5k a few times together before he moved. It was where the Girls On The Run 5k was held. Overall, my Uncle Mike helped me get into long distance running. He taught me different running tips to get the head start. …show more content…
He helped with kitchen duty for a shelter while a hurricane blew through. He had to prepare food for everyone in the shelter. He was also a first responder. A first responder goes out right after the storm to look for people who may need help. People can get injured and need help to get a hospital or someone could get stranded and need to get to safety. It is very bold of my uncle, along with the rest of the first response teams, to go out to help look for people right after the storm. There is a lot of danger right after a hurricane. They have to watch for trees and telephone pulls falling on

Who is a hero? In contemporary times, usage of the term has become somewhat of a cliché. Over the years, the term “hero” has become representative of a wide variety of individuals, each possessing differing traits. Some of the answers put forth by my colleagues (during our in-class discussion on heroism) as to whom they consider heroes pointed to celebrities, athletes, teachers and family members. Although the occupations differed, each of their heroes bore qualities that my classmates perceived as extraordinary, whether morally or physically. Nonetheless, Webster’s defines “hero” as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” Thus, it is worth considering that individuals become heroes relative to the situation with which they’re faced.
What is a hero? A hero can be classified as a number of things. A hero can be a person who in the opinions of others has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. Ervin Staub, a holocaust survivor from Hungary and as scholar on altruistic behavior, has written, "Goodness like evil often begins in small steps. Heroes evolve; they aren't born. Very often the rescuers make only a small commitment at the start, to hide someone for a day or two. But once they had taken that step, they begin to see themselves differently, as someone who helps. What starts as mere willingness becomes intense involvement." The business man, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example
Over the course of history the definition of what makes a hero has made many changes. Beowulf, Superman, and firefighters are all examples of heroes, but they are very different when broken down. Today’s society defines a hero by his values, his strength, and his journey.
what is a hero? A hero doesn't always have to be have to be a special individual saving another hopeful soul from a burning building, or being born as an extraordinary individual who has the powers to save lives. A hero could be anyone whose daily acts go unnoticed, and could never be heard. People spend their days doing these things without any notice the act of heroism. Heros can be anywhere without anyone noticing these simple jobs that they do to help others. Heroes can be blind to the human eye but can be notice by the simple acts of strength and selflessness inside them. Although some hero acts go unheard of, heroes can be selfless people, who take up the courage to fight for things bigger than oneself.
For my hero´s journey, I chose to create a superhero called Violet. I chose the name Violet because the powers that Violet possess is a unique violet color. Violet is different from others people because she has magic powers that are like magicians. Her powers include optical illusions, levitation, and the power to make things disappear. Violet wears a blue cloak and uses a magic wand, to resemble an ordinary stage magician among the humans. She also wears purple striped pants and long brown boots. She must save the world from a powerful wizard named Alanzam, that wants to take over the universe and erase the human race. Along her journey, she meets another magic superhero named Jasper. Who lived on earth in secret, like Violet. The two face
An English proverb states, “ A hero is a man who is afraid to run away”. I agree with this proverb, because when you see a hero in a comic book, they have super cool back stories, are not afraid to fight, and stare danger in the face and not blink. They are not afraid of anything. That’s nice to look up to, but they are not real. Our definition of a hero is too much for one man to become, you can do something honorable, heroic, but you will never actually be a hero because it's too much, in real life. Heroes don’t just do it so they can get paid, or respect. What really determines whether someone is a hero is if they choose to do something about it in a bad situation. We have people that do heroic acts, for example, people putting their lives before others. Those people cannot be heroes because they get paid to do it, they are, firefighters, cops, and military, they get paid to help people, so they aren't considered a hero.
He did not have kids of his own at the time so he tried to involve me and my brothers with as much things as possible. To me, his accomplishments and awards he has received for helping the community gave me motive to also become successful in a foreign country and give back. I have always wanted to feel that sense of reward after doing something good which is why I have decided to major in Nursing. After many community presentations about his background, job description, and collaborations with the community, my uncle really engraved how important education is and the advantages it brings. For instance, I really connected to Gina Rodriguez in the article from
A hero is someone you look up to, someone who has done something to inspire you, someone who is your role model. In our society, there are many different types of heroes—family, friends, teachers, firefighters, and police officers to name a few. But a hero that stands out to me is a U.S. soldier. Soldiers risk their lives every day just so we can have our freedom.
Romance, drama, horror, comedy, and more but above all are the epics. In many cultures stories have been shared over and over again, and eventually a man named Joseph Campbell began to look at these tails and myths. As he went over these different tails he noticed a pattern that would then be developed into what is known as “The Hero’s Journey.” After looking at three different cultures stories it seems that “The Hero’s Journey” is indeed a pattern that appears in stories from across the world, but further then that is how different cultures all used stories to teach other valuable lessons. Some of the main cultures of storytelling Greek, Norse, and Hindu can be analyzed for their relationship though Campbell’s theory while
Whether accidental or intentional, aspects of our lives have shown us that there is a hero inside every one of us, but the choice lies inside the beholder to act on these skills or let them remain hidden. A hero isn’t necessarily someone running around in tights with a cape, what it means to be a hero has been revolutionized by many aspects of our new society. A hero in our new society can widely be defined as someone who decides to abandon their own needs and wants in order to attempt to help others in any possible way even the tiniest. There is a great evil that has an arisen in this great country that deserves an equal opponent to help stop this evil and this is where my future lies. The evil that has engulfed our world
Superhero Today Presentation Slide 1: Superheroes Today Presentation This is my presentation on superheroes today; not only have superhero comics evolved substantially since the golden age, but the industry has as well, with Disney buying Marvel and DC being owned by the conglomerate Time Warner, and with this substantial backing have been able to breakthrough into films and become some of the most successful films in history, throughout I will discuss how superhero narrative have taken this form in movies. Early in the noughties X Men had gained moderate success; however, Many Key scholars; like Mitch has said in the presentation, have said the popular culture of superhero movies and geek culture exploded with Spider-Man in 2002, which took
Ever thought about what a hero stands for or who heroes are? I have. I was challenged a week ago to come up with my hero for an English paper. After countless, antagonizing hours pondering the true meaning of this topic, I know what the word hero stands for. A hero is a person you look up to, someone who is honorable, benevolent, and hardworking. This person will battle evil everyday. This evil may be causing the world to end, or just the world as he knows it. I know a person who personifies all of these characteristics, thus making him my hero. My hero is my thirteen-year-old little brother Sam.
My great grandfather, Dr. A.J. Long, was a caring man. He was dearly loved by his wife, three children, and seven grandchildren. He came from a big family of sisters and brothers, he worked hard in life through college and had an impressive career. A.J. always wanted to go above and beyond in what ever he was doing, he never wanted to be average, this is what made him an amazing great grandfather and big influence in my life.
Now that I have taught you about heroes, how much do you really know about them. Yes, a hero can be super, a human, or omnipresent, but the thing that connects them all together, is that they want to help and keep us safe. For me, heroes are the people that try hard enough to make a difference. So stand up, do something nice for a friend or someone you don’t know, and one day you may be that person's
