What do you think it means to be a hero? The first thing many people think of, is that heroes fly around with a cape on their backs and save people. Not all heroes are like that. Some heroes, do not even get noticed for the things that they do. A hero is someone who protects others and expects nothing in return. Heroes can vary from Jesus to veterans. A hero can be anyone, even you. This man was a hero to me and many others. His name is Jesus. Jesus did many things for humanity. He was hated by many for trying to help and save us from sin. He was forced up a hill with a heavy cross on his back only to be lead to his death. What do you think that other people did as he was carrying his cross? They stood around and did nothing. They leave their families to serve our country and help protect us in any way they can, even if it means giving up their lives for us. It takes many years for them to get into the Armed forces. It takes a lot of time for them to complete all the necessary training just to get in. They spend all of that time just to help protect us. Most of the time people do not even think about them and take their safety for granted. The Veterans are like heroes, helping all of us by keeping us safe. You may not be a Veteran or Jesus, but how could you be a hero? Well you can be a hero by just helping others. You do not necessarily need to do miracles, or go to war to save us from any potential threat. If someone needs help, help them do not just stand around and watch. As the wise Mahatma Gandhi once said ‘Be the change you want to see in the world’. Maybe one day you can become a hero for someone else. Now that I have taught you about heroes, how much do you really know about them. Yes, a hero can be super, a human, or omnipresent, but the thing that connects them all together, is that they want to help and keep us safe. For me, heroes are the people that try hard enough to make a difference. So stand up, do something nice for a friend or someone you don’t know, and one day you may be that person's
