My whole childhood, my family has met at my great-grandparents for holidays. In my great-grandparents yard, they have huge trees that all of the grand kids get in trouble for climbing. Easter of 2003, my cousins and I were doing just what we had been told not to do numerous times and snuck into the biggest tree in the yard. Just as well all got up there and thought we had accomplished not getting caught in that tree, as one of us looks up, a snake is looking at us. Everyone jumped down as fast as they could, but I’ve always been very clumsy and not very athletic. Austin, Hannah, and Cheyenne were down the tree very quickly but I was struggling. About the time I went to jump, I fell out of the tree and caught myself with my arms. Screaming came out very quickly as I could feel my heartbeat in my arm. My parents, aunts, uncles, and grand-parents were outside quickly, and to the hospital I went. I was very uncomfortable but I thought the x-ray of my arm was the coolest thing. After that day, I decided x-ray technology was for me. On that day, I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up.Discovered in 1895 by a German scientist, Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen was the use of imaging techniques and in 1901 he won the Nobel Prize in physics for his discovery. (www.radiology-schools.com) Imaging that does not involve radiation has grown rapidly since the 1980s and 1990s’. To begin with, he took an x-ray of his wife’s hand, where he could see her hand and her wedding ring on the image. Safety has become significant and great improvements have been made in computer technology. Computers can now hold much more data and much sooner. These improvements have made it possible to develop images to create transparency and sharpness. (Andrew Morkes page 406)...

...wear when x-rays are being used, there can be both short- and long-term harmful effects. (William E. Hopke page232) As the dangers of x-rays became more obvious trained technologists were hired specifically to perform x-rays. Over time, fewer doctors were performing x-rays, and hospitals would hire unexperienced people to learn the fundamentals of the job. Training progressions were set up for these people, teaching them the fundamentals of radiography.(www.radiology-schools.com) Every technologist must wear a badge, measuring the radiation exposure, and keep records of total exposure gathered over time. Safeguards also include lead aprons, rubber gloves, and shielding.
X-ray technology requires everything from knowing the history, to the hazards of the job. I thought I was interested in being an x ray technologist, but after looking into it, I know I’m interested.
In the radiology profession first you must write the patient’s file. This includes information about insurance, medical history, what the required x-ray is for and where it is going to be taken on the body. Writing in this way is similar to writing a small research paper. You must do research on the patients and there history and what insurance they have. Writing the report is important because the information must be accurate so the patient can be helped as much as possible. If the information about medical history is incorrect it can cause a huge problem for the patient. For example, if the patient is claustrophobic they would need to get an open room x-ray where the patient isn’t in an enclosed tube so they don’t have a panic attack and potentially injure themselves and others. It is very important to make sure the report has the correct area of where the x-ray needs to be taken. Having the wrong part of the body x-...
In dentistry there is a need for taking an x-ray, the x-ray is a way to help the dentist diagnose a patients oral hygiene and to see if there are any other areas in the mouth that may need to have any type of work. The dentist or the assistant will want to make sure that they can get all the teeth possible in the radiograph (x-ray) as possible to reduce the amount of exposure to the patient. Most people will have exposure to radiation just from standing outside in the sun for a long period of time, which is what we call “background exposure”.
How does the X-ray work? Well first off let me tell you the difference of light rays and X-rays. The light rays are visible light waves and x-rays is a light that is smaller than atoms in your body. You can’t see them with the naked eye like sun rays. X-rays will only pick up items and body parts that are hard and also made of calcium. That light will then project your muscle that would look like a light gray and your bone structure that will be white onto a black piece of radio graphic film.
Attending Florida Southwestern State College to become an x-ray tech is a huge accomplish for me. Because I have a learning disability unfortunately I have to take remedial courses like intermediate algebra, Brush up English, and a reading course the first semester. The good thing about studying Radiology is you can switch to any type of jobs in this field. For an example, you can switch to working with MRI’s or Cat Scans if you want to try another department in the Radiology field. This specific field is for you to work with x-rays. It’s important to know the bone structure .You can work with ultrasounds to, Cat Scans, to MRI’s (Magnetic resonance imaging).
In conclusion, with all the facts being said, working with MRI machines may seem very challenging and very scary. Without the proper handling and correct safety precautions taken, several risk factors may be presented to the technologist and patients. It is vital that an MRI technologist be highly trained and educated in order to alleviate possible danger to patients and other personnels. MRI machines are highly used all over the world in order to diagnose and treat a good majority of the population's illness and diseases. They are capable of producing immensely detailed images that are unmatched to any other imaging modality. Though it is important to remember, the bigger the machine, the greater the risks and responsibilities both the patient and the technologist will be presented with.
The CT imaging system consists of a motorized table which moves the patient through a circular opening. While the patient is inside the opening, an X-ray source and a detector assembly within the system rotate around the patient. A single rotation typically takes a second or less. During rotation the X-ray source produces a narrow, fan-shaped beam of X-rays that passes through a section of the patient's body. Detectors in rows opposite the X-ray source register the X-rays that pass through the patient's body as a snapshot in the process of creating an image [3, 8].
For me the TMCC radiologic technologist program has been tremendously rewarding. It is a challenging academic curriculum that allows much more hands-on experience working with scientific equipment than most medical support degree programs. At the same time, I know that completing the program will enable me to work in a wide range of different clinical specialties in an area of medicine that will always be in very high demand in the job market after graduation.
In order to really understand where medical imaging is currently at one must have a basic understanding of where it came from. Twenty years ago radiologist would read and dictate the images on film. They were able to accomplish this by holding the film up to light boxes. This method provided no way for the radiologist to interact or manipulate the images

How does radiology help in the medical field and everyday life? In the medical they use it in dental, doctor offices, they can also use radiology when they give a live injection into the human body. How do they use radiology in everyday? When you live at the beach and water table is high you have to call someone first to come and X-ray of ground to make sure you're digging down to the water table or you digging up lines or other
Radiation is something that the naked eye cannot see, yet has the potential to save lives one treatment at a time or even one image at a time. Since the discovery of x-rays in 1895, it has branched out into numerous modalities each independently specializing in their own ways. X rays are used to aid in the diagnosis and treatments of patients on a case by case scenario. Sometimes doctors can make a diagnosis on the same day or conclude that a patient will require radiation therapy within weeks to follow. Whatever it may be, the importance of x rays and radiation itself is a crucial part of the medical field when it comes to saving lives. Initially it all started with the discovery of x rays but then three years later radiation therapy was introduced to aid with
...hort history starting with the discovery of x-rays in 1875. The first evidence that radiation could do harm came a few months after, when an x-ray worker developed injuries to his skin. Grave efforts to understand and manage radiation exposures started in the 1920s and greatly expanded during World War II and are still expanding today.
I am attending Baton Rouge General School of Radiologic Technology to pursue an Associates degree through Northwestern State University to become a licensed radiologic technologist. I chose this profession because I thoroughly enjoy helping others and making a difference in people’s lives. Radiologic technologists are expected to give efficient patient care while following the doctor’s order to proceed with the X-ray examination. Radiology is the most important role in healthcare because with out having X-rays, the surgeons could not see inside of the patient’s body to perform surgery. Doctors can not predict what is going on inside of a patient without having an X-ray. I am interested in this being my future career because
Image intensification is the process of converting x-rays into visible light. “Early fluoroscopic procedures produced visual images of low intensity, which required the radiologist's eyes to be dark adapted and restricted image recording. In the late 1940s, with the rapid developments in electronics and borrowing the ideas from vacuum tube technology, scientists invented the x-ray image intensifier, which considerably brightened fluoroscopic images” (Wang & Blackburn, 2000, np). We will explore the image intensification tube, the various gain parameters associated with the tube, and the magnification mode of the image intensifier. The image-intensifying tube is extremely intricate and allows for the conversion of the x-ray beam to be converted into a high intensity visible-light image.
Before the discovery of X-rays in 1895, it was impossible to look inside human body, without causing harmful side effects. The famous quote of Anna Bertha Ludwig - “I have seen my death” is a testimony to this. In ancient times, the only way to study internal human organs was the dissection of dead bodies. Additionally, this was also subject to availability or religious beliefs. Leonardo da Vinci made 240 detailed sketches between 1510 and 1511, which were way ahead of their time. Unfortunately, it could not be published, except for a small amount in 1632. Images aide in visualization of illnesses (e.g. a malignant tumor), which are impossible to observe from outside of the body. A surgeon must know the various attributes of the tumor like location and size, before she can operate on it. Similarly an oncologist needs this information to decide the course of treatment e.g. tumor size and metabolic activity may be needed to determine the number of chemotherapy sessions. With images, all this information can be obtained without cutting open the patient. And what’s remarkable is that u...
